Why Cape Town? Insider Tips About This Gem Of All African Destinations
2008-03-26 23:30:00
By Alison Beere Cape Town , South Africa is increasingly renowned as a world class tourism destination and with good reason. Poised between mountains and ocean, it is breathtakingly scenic. Unique natural splendor abounds, yet first-class urban facilities are within easy reach. So, is it the place for YOUR South African vacation? What this City is NOT Cape Town is not a rustic African experience. This is a cosmopolitan city which is home to more than 4 million people. You may see shanty towns but there are no mud huts. If you are interested in rural African culture, you may be disappointed. Cape Town is not a package tour destination. There are many hotels but few resorts where you pay up front and find everything included except the odd drink. This is a city of diverse attractions which in turn attracts a widely-differing cross-section of visitors from around the globe. Cape Town weather does not offer days and days of relentless, unchanging sunshine. The city is on a peninsula an...

Are We There Yet? A Travel Guide For Parents
2008-03-26 22:17:00
You’ve all heard of the horror stories of family trips. No matter how long you are staying at your chosen destination, when traveling with children the longest part of the trip can be your journey there. Kids get fidgety, even aggressive during especially long car rides or airplane rides. You will need plenty of activities to keep their minds busy. 1. Keep Them Busy Chances are, unless you are going to a very kid-centric location, your children will be very bored. Try purchasing travel games such as tiny versions of chess or checkers. There are also plenty of low cost games you can play in a car like eye spy or 20 questions. Having a variety of games and activities to keep their children occupied and keep their minds off of the journey is always a good idea. 2. For Long Car Rides Keep in mind when designing an itinerary of games that children typically get tired of playing the same game twice. For your benefit, you can design games that take a long time to complete. For exa...

New Design and some more
2008-03-24 10:15:00
It took a bit longer than planned to get up to date with a design for this blog that fits the content. I think, I found, what I was looking for and will be able to update the blog more regularly now to give you the best tips for your visit in Cape Town. The two big mass sporting events of the year in Cape Town - Cape Argus Cycle Tour and Two Ocean’s Marathon - happened over the last three weekends. The two events happened in very fast succession as the Two Ocean’s Marathon happens on the Saturday before Easter and with that the date changes every year. I participated in the Half Marathon and ran a personal best (2′08″), which also shows you that I am a slow runner. Next year I plan to run the Ultra and still have to perform a full marathon this year in order to qualify. There are lots of changes happening in Cape Town in preapartion for the 2010 soccer worldcup. The energy crisis is still a challenge, but I hope that this will be under control until then.  Â...
