The 23rd of June see's the beginning of Summer in Empuriabrava and the surrounding areas.If you are in the town this week and next, it is a good time to enjoy the shops, beaches and everything else before we see the massive influx of tourists. The weather this year has also been quite good, a few rainy days but fingers crossed it should be good for the fireworks.The show starts early in the evening with live bands and much much more, right next door to Passarella.As someone who always BBQ's on the beach during these hot summer nights, it is the best time of the year to enjoy Empuriabrava.

5th June 2009, Dirty Jobs are playing at the Cafe Del Canal , in the centre of the town. If you have never been to Cafe Del Canal, then you need to. Florian will take great care of you and the Tapas and Drinks are excellent. You cannot beat live music in the open air, Dirty Jobs will rock the night away.Did anybody go to this concert?Got any photos? Easter has been and gone in Empuriabrava. The boat show was here, not as succesfull as previous years, lot's of people selling, but not many buying was what was happening.Now that Easter has passed, this can mean only one thing, Summer is coming!It has been a long, cold and windy winter, with most residents ready for some nice warm dry weather, but maybe not the influx of people here to stay for the warmer months.We will soon have the fireworks display on the beach, June is the first one if i remember correctly, let me know if i'm wrong. Picture taken from CBrava.comAfter a couple of weeks of heavy rain and battering winds, it's seems Empuriabrava and the surrounding area might be in for a break in the bad weather.The beach front of Empuriabrava basically saw the beach dissapering around the New Year, this being because of the heavy rain and pounding winds. The town also saw a huge electric outage, this could have been caused by the weather, although nothing has been reported.Now that the Holiday period is out of the way, we can now all look forward to the Summer coming, not quick enough for me.

In 2008, the town of Empuriabrava has had some really bad press. This has been mainly because of the ongoing crisis between the owners of moorings and houses in the town and the Spanish government who is trying to take land from them.As someone who has lived in the town for the past 7 years, it's not only 2008 that has given Empuriabrava a bad name, it can do that all by itself.The town in need of a huge cash boost to improve it's look, which is disgusting.Take the beach front for instance, who would want to spend their summer there?It's like a huge waste land of dog excrement, and sand. I'm not talking about the beach, i mean the area between the beach and the road, it's disgusting.Also the entrance to the town is so unappealing, empty warehouses and scrub land!If you were thinking of purchasing a house in the town which you had never visited and were promised it to be a paradise of canals and million euros homes, i think you might be a little dissapointed.

Parents in the area of Castello d Empuries which includes Empuriabrava, are not happy about paying for the school bus service which gets hundreds of children to school every morning and home every evening. In the surrounding area, no other school has yet declared that anyone has pay.The town council is trying to reverse this decision. No on ehas to pay for the service unitl 2009.Please leave your comments about this here.

So the summer of 2008 has finally gone.The tourists have all gone back home and the town is back to it's normal self, nearly.With the long hot summer days, BBQ's and late nights at the beach they all have to come to an end as the dark winter nights draw in. But dont worry everyone, the summer of 2009 is only about 250 days away, and it will be here before you know it. So enjoy your nights by the fire and early morning walks on the empty but freezing cold wind swept beach.

Crime levels drop in the summer months 2008

According to reports, the crime of fighting between locals and holiday revellers dropped in this year to it's lowest ever. The local council has said that the improved presence of both the local police and the Mossos d'Esqaudra in the town helped Empuriabrava improve on it's somewhat violent past few years.The area of Los Arcos saw the largest improvement, this being dow to the CCTV and larger presence of the police as stated before. Empuriabrava has been one of the largest crime blackspots on the Costa Brava, with lot's of other towns taking note and not letting them slide in knife attacks and fist fights.

Dead Body Found in Empuriabrava Canal

A body was found on Monday (September 8th) morning in the Illa Cartago Canal in Empuriabrava.Early reports suggest that their are no suspicious circumstances over the death of what is thought to be a young man. No one has been reported missing at this time, so no more information is being given at this time.More information will be posted here when it is given.

Motorhomes - Not any more.

On the front line of Empuriabrava, the most northern beach was turned into what can be only described as a motorhome park. With around 20 - 30 motorhomes parked in front of the properties, it has now been sloved with a height restriction bar and a new roundabout. For anyone living on that side of the canal and especially on the sea front, it must have been a nightmare.Having seen the rubbish and dirt they left behind myself, and also wondering where they were emptying their toilets, it is a good thing what the council has done.The council has mentioned building a proper area for the campervans and caravans etc. The area for the building is not known, so this can only be described as an idea at the moment.

The season has come to an end

Empuriabrava's holiday season has now come to an end.With the school children all back to school within the next couple of weeks, it's now that time of year when the town can get back to it's normal self. Living here in Empuriabrava all year round makes this time of year, especially September one of the most enjoyable months. With the weather at it's best, not too hot but just hot enough, and all the facilities still open, residents can now take full advantage of this nice time.Before we know it, it will be Christmas with lots of leaving to go to England or other countries to spend time with out families. Before we know it, Summer 2009 will be creeping up on us, and we will have to go through, long queues in the supermarkets, banks closed on Saturdays and the bumper to bumper traffic most of us have to endure.Summer 2009 only 10 months to go.

Water levels have improved

In recent times, the water levels of the resevoirs that supply water to the local areaa have been very low. In the later weeks of May, local residents of Empuriabrava, might recall a few days and a few nights of rain, on one night, the rain was that hard, i thought the roof of my house was going to fall in. Anyway, according to officials, the reservoirs have had an amount of water that will supply fresh drinking water for Figueres for 6 months, this indeed is a good thing, and well over due.As an English person living in this area, i have respect for the water authority, in the UK, if we didnt have the rain we have, we would be in serious trouble.

Speed Limit increased in Empuriabrava - Speed cameras in Fortia!

In some areas of Empuriabrava including the entrance road and the main road that leads to the beach, the speed limit has been increased from 40mph to 50mph. The reason for this has not been released to the public, but in my honest opinion, the reason for this, is that no one abides by the 40mph rule, so 50mph seems a little bit more reasonable.The town of Empuriabrava, still has Speed Camera traps, that are placed occasionally around the town, to catch out the speedy drivers. The town of Fortia, has speed cameras placed around the outer roads also, i can swear by this, as i travel on the Fortia road every single day, on my way to work, so people beware, Fortia has speed cameras!
