The 12th annual Bach & Beyond Baroque Music Festival kicks off its three day run this Friday, June 9 at the 1891 Fredonia Opera House. The festival has long been a great place to hear rarely performed baroque pieces, with many of the works performed making their area premieres. The theme for this year's festival is humor in music and Artistic Director Grant Cooper has unearthed some rarities, such as the 1701 Suite: The Comedy Call'd the Funeral by William Croft as well as better-known works such as Haydn's Quartet Op. 33 No. 2, known as The Joke. Of course, some listeners might feel that one of the works to be performed might have better been left buried—the cantata Iphigenia in Brooklyn, by P.D.Q. Bach. Cassadaga Lake Introduction Cassadaga Lake is actually three interconnected lakes, located in northern Chautauqua County. All three lakes provide angling for largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, northern pike, muskellunge and several species of panfish. Public boat launching and fishing access is provided at a DEC operated site located at the north end of Middle Cassadaga Lake. Anglers should note that these lakes experience oxygen depletion below depths of 12 feet -15 feet from June-September. Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass Bass in Cassadaga Lakes are managed by DEC with a special regulation called a slot limit. This regulation requires anglers to release any bass they catch between 12 and 15 inches in length. Bass less than 12 inches and greater than 15 inches can be kept. On Saturday, a Mother 's Day Poker Run around Chautauqua Lake will be held, starting from the Nickel Plate Depot in Brocton. Motorcycle registration starts at 11 a.m., the run takes off at noon. Cost $15/driver and $5/passenger. Blue Moon Management will present a free lineup of music on Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m., at The Sherman Hotel in Sherman, held in honor of the late Keith Flanders.
