New Scammers At Central Bus Stop
2007-01-29 15:24:02 We talked with two people today: A Canadian and an American who both said they were in the central bus stop, when a pregnant woman and a well-groomed man tried to steal their bags. Apparently, the scam is to spill something on the victim, and then while one is wiping the victim off, the other person swipes the bags. The first person even tried to aggressively pull the Canadian woman into the bathroom in an attempt to “help” clean her shirt. (While assumedly allowing the woman to set her purse and other items on the counter, so they can be swiped, too). More About: Cent , Stop , Central , Scam , Al B
The Best Places To Hide Your Money
2007-01-28 03:23:01 It’s important to keep cash on hand, around the house. Especially when you’re living in Costa Rica. Things pop up. ATM’s are sometimes unavailable. Payments are required during a Sunday. Or perhaps you need cash to bribe the security guard at the local airstrip in order to board the last private plane out of the country? Perhaps you don’t yet have a bank account here? The best places to hide money in your house are to look for (or create) places that are hidden in plain sight. Remember– you probably have a $2 an hour maid cleaning your house, and in all likelihood, she will have already checked the normal places people hide money. Here are some ideas: - Custom made furniture is fairly cheap here. Have furniture made with false backs, false bottoms and hollow areas, like legs and arms. Furniture should be heavy enough that somebody can’t just walk out the door with it or discover the secret by turning it over. - A false bookshelf: If you own... Man Allegedly Loses Kidney In Costa Rica? Travel Insurance To Blame?
2007-01-28 03:23:01 For all the future travelers that have the opportunity to read this story, I would hope that after you finish this article, you would highly consider Travel Insurance ! As a former travel Agent, when I read sad stories about travelers that have bad medical experiences abroad, it starts to make my stomach turn because I would quickly check all my client files to make sure they have all purchased some form of medical and/or cancellation policies from me prior to their travel. However, when he awoke in the Cost a Rica hospital where he had admitted himself, he quickly found out that his kidney was removed! This young man?s jaw was never fixed and the medical doctor in Costa Rica claimed several of his internal organs were damaged, and out of all the organs that were injured, they had to remove one of his kidneys. Makes you go Hmmm! Now in my professional opinion, I would classify Costa Rica as a popular destination that I would recommend to many of my past clients to visit for their ecot... 2007-01-28 03:23:01 If you travel a lot, sooner or later you have to visit Cost a Rica. To get around the country, you are going to need to rent a vehicle. Here are a few tips on doing so. Costa Rica is an amazingly beautiful country with plenty to see and experience in just about any part of the country. If you want to take in an active volcano, Arenal is located in the middle of the country and you can wind surf on the lake below it. Up for some eco-tourism? The rainforest in the south of the country is epic. Prefer a bit of surfing? Head to the beaches on the west coast for a blast. Regardless of your choice, the one constant is you will need some way to get around. Renting a car in Costa Rica is a unique process. First off, you should consider renting a pickup truck instead of a car. While the main roads are in great shape, any explorations off of them put you on dirt roads that will shake, rattle and roll you till your teeth are about to fall out. A truck is far better equipped to take the beating ... More About: For Rent , Tips

1300 New Road Signs For Costa Rica
2007-01-28 03:23:01 I don’t know if this will help with traffic congestion here, but any new road signs in Cost a Rica are always a welcome relief. In general, one of the most difficult aspects of driving in Costa Rica is not knowing where you are. Very few road signs and no house numbers. AMCostaRica.com is reporting that the government is spending $580,000 for these road signs. I think an even better idea would be to start an initiative to put a road sign on every street– and let Subway pay for it by placing a small “Learn about Jared and his amazing sandwich diet” underneath each sign. Does Having A Map Really Help?
2007-01-28 03:23:01 I found a site with some cool maps of Costa Rica: http://www.costaricamap.com/ing/maps.html One thing to be aware of in Costa Rica: Maps are seldom accurate. Here’s why: There are no street signs in this country, and there are no house numbers. Directions are given by saying things like, “100 meters south of the Old Plantation, and then 75 meters east of the ICE building,” — and you’re lucky if either the Old Plantation or the ICE building still exist. I have no idea who’s in charge of this, but if only a small percentage of the national budget was directed to installing street signs and house numbers– the national productivity in this country would grow by at least 30%. Can you imagine how many man-hours are wasted because people cannot pay their bills by dropping the money into an envelope and mailing it off to the recipient? Instead, they spend hours waiting in lines at various locations in order to pay their bills. So, you might pay ... More About: Real , Really , Ving , Ally
Car Jacking Suspects Get No Jail Time In Costa Rica
2007-01-28 03:23:01 Three men caught for allegedly “sticking up” motorists and then stealing their cars having been given the usual “We’re soft on crime/slap on the wrist,” according to AMCost aRica.com. Apprehended Tuesday while traveling in downtown San Jose, the prosecutor recommended the men be put in jail, but the judge instead gave them: Freedom, under the condition that they sign in with the prosecutor’s office every 15 days (probably to thumb their nose at the prosecuter). Not talk to witnesses or victims of the case. Not leave the country. I mean– why would you risk leaving the country when you can continue to practice crime like this and only get a slap on the wrist?
