Possible risks
2008-04-22 19:41:00

Mixed Feelings
2008-04-19 12:39:00
This week, I had experienced a mixture of emotions about my life here in the Netherlands and our plans to go back to the Philippines. The past few weeks I have realized that I have been fortunate or blessed to have such a remarkable group of colleagues at work. The company responded well to my requests and they are doing all their best to improve my work situation. My manager has been (more…) © 2008 BacktothePhilippines.com All Rights Reserved

2008-04-13 09:05:00
From the beginning, I have talked about our business plans here as one of the main purpose for going back to the Philippines. Starting a business is complicated enough, and being in business with a family member such as a spouse could make things a bit more sensitive. We need to clearly define the division ...

Follow the money or let it follow you
2008-03-23 06:03:00
One thing in life that I have observed is that most people do is follow where the money is. They study for a certain course or pursue a certain profession because they think that it is where the money is. I think this mentality is common in our culture. Just look at ...

How about running a Beach Resort?
2008-02-17 11:51:00
These are photos from the island where my mom's family came from. One of my aunts told me that it is her dream to run a family beach resort in their hometown. Wouldn't it be cool if we could develop some land along these beach line and run this resort ourselves?Yesterday, when my husband told his writer friend about our idea of living in the Philippines he sounded so enthusiastic about it that he would even consider going there and help us run a business such as that. Who knows? A visit to this place is surely on top of our list!

Tempted
2008-02-15 06:35:00
They say that women can be fickle-minded sometimes and hard to figure out. I didn't know that this would apply to me today. This sort of idea of going to the Philippines is still getting fuzzy again in my head -- at least when it would take place.Out of frustration from my job. I browsed sites during my day-off yesterday. And lo! I found a very interesting job posting. The main catching points were:Flexible working hoursPossibilities to work from homeTrips to New YorkThe possibility of further of growing in my field, but also in building and managing a ICT successful business venture. It was even written in Dutch but I understood it perfectly well and most of the skills needed seem to match my experience. So, to make it short I got tempted and e-mailed the contact from the company directly. In less than 2 minutes I got a reply from him. He wanted an interview! I was so excited I totally forgot about applying for the other jobs. This company seems so interesting that researc...
Stressed with Work Again
2008-02-14 06:41:00
From the movie Office Space: Peter Gibbons: What would you do if you had a million dollars? Lawrence: I'll tell you what I'd do, man: two chicks at the same time, man. Peter Gibbons: That's it? If you had a million dollars, you'd do two chicks at the same time? Lawrence: Damn straight. I always wanted to do that, man. And I think if I were a millionaire I could hook that up, too; 'cause chicks dig dudes with money. Peter Gibbons: Well, not all chicks. Lawrence: Well, the type of chicks that'd double up on a dude like me do. Peter Gibbons: Good point. Lawrence: Well, what about you now? what would you do? Peter Gibbons: Besides two chicks at the same time? Lawrence: Well, yeah. Peter Gibbons: Nothing. Lawrence: Nothing, huh? Peter Gibbons: I would relax... I would sit on my ass all day... I would do nothing. Lawrence: Well, you don't need a million dollars to do nothing, man. Take a look at my cousin: he's broke, don't do shit. This blog is not meant to be an...

Visa Options for Longer Stay in the Philippines
2008-02-10 18:50:00
For short-term stay up to 21 days, there is no need for a visa for citizens of The Netherlands. The same goes for a U.S. citizen.Because I am a former Filipino citizen, the following will be our options when we decide to stay longer than 21 days:Balikbayan Program Here, both me and my spouse can stay visa-free for a period of one year. With this, we can purchase tax free up to $1500 worth of goods from a government owned/operated duty free shops. We are also exempted from paying travel tax. However after that one year, we will have to deal with renewals of visas which can be a big hassle if it takes place every 2 months or so. It can also be costly in the long run. We also both need to register as aliens and get an ACR card.Retention of CitizenshipWhen I became a naturalized US citizen, I had lost my Philippine Citizenship. However, with the new provisions of Republic Act No. 9225 I can regain my citizenship after taking an oath of allegiance to the Republic at the nea...
