A rough guide to Pai (ปาย)
2008-01-22 09:46:00 Recently, a charming small town in Mae Hong Son called Pai (ปาย) has become one of the preferred destinations for both local and foreign travelers in Thailand. Some people contributed this boom to the film “Rak Jung” starring two of Thailand’s hottest stars. However, Pai (ปาย) itself is charming and beautiful enough to attract more travelers especially in this internet age. Though we believe that every journey is unique depending on each traveler’s preferences, we at Urban Hideaway just want to give you a rough guide to get yourself started for your hideaway in Pai. GETTING THERE You can travel to Pai (ปาย) either by direct flights (by SGA) or road passing along 136 km and 762 curves over 3 mountains. If you’re someone who get carsick easily, we recommend you take the plane, which can save you a lot of time and pain. Our hideaway trip to Pai brought us to Chiang Mai where we spent a night before chartering a van to Pai (ปาย), stop... Rim Pai Cottage
2008-01-18 04:47:00 If you prefer to stay in the town area within walking distance to the popular walking streets, bus station and other amenities in Pai, you might want to check out Rim Pai Cottage , one of the popular resorts in Pai that is situated right next to the Pai River where you can expect to see fogs floating above the water surface during the coldest months. Rim Pai Cottage offers accommodations for different types of travelers from couples to families. We checked in with the friendly and helpful staffs who took us to our room, Treehouse, which gives us one of the best views in Pai (ปาย) right next to the river. As the name suggested, we might not know that there is a room among the tree by just looking from the outside. The bedroom is quite large with a queen size bed in the middle of the room with the washbasin at the end of it. In addition, there is a small mat and Thai pillow on in front of the foyer for us to relax during the day, enjoying both the view and the sounds of the Pai...
Coffee in Love
2008-01-18 04:40:00 Two kilometers before reaching Pai (ปาย), we saw these huge letters which said “Coffee In Love ”. Opened less than a year ago, Coffee in Love is one of the latest cafes that Pai has to offer, with a splendid view too. Unlike All About Coffee, which is situated right in the heart of Pai (ปาย), Coffee in Love requires you to take a short ride from the town, heading towards Chiang Mai. As Mae Hong Son is well-known to be the city of 3 fogs in winter, monsoon, and summer, you can expect to see the foggy mountains at Coffee in Love. During our second morning in Pai (ปาย), we braved the chilly winter, got onto our motorbike that we hired a day earlier, and rode to the cafe. As we arrived, our faces and hands were numbed and obviously a hot cup of coffee would be perfect. Though this cafe looks kind of “homemade”, they brew pretty good coffee, especially our cappuccino and mocha. With its location, situated on the top of a small hill, it is no surpr...
All About Coffee
2008-01-17 08:03:00 All About Coffee is not really all about coffee. Actually this “legendary” cafe offers breakfast and other dishes as well. Legendary is because the owner of All About Coffee is one of the earliest people from Bangkok to settle down in the area after his falling in love during his first trip to the charming little town of Pai (ปาย). A hot cup of cappuccino is always welcome during a cold morning. With Pai’s splendid weather and stillness, this is especially pleasing. It’s very difficult for me to judge how good is the coffee at All About Coffee. However, I personally like it. We actually had an iced latte too. They are not brewed and served sweet as would many of the local coffee makers that I’ve encountered in different parts of Thailand, which I would say is good. In addition, the breakfast menu, while limited, is adequate to keep you going for the day ahead with examples, and also our favorites such as “Torpedo Eggs with Toasts” and...
Love Pai Home
2008-01-17 06:46:00 During the first night of our stay in Pai (ปาย), we decided to check in at Love Pai Home , a very exclusive boutique hotel 3.5km from the town area. As we arrived we were greeted by our warm host, Khun Tato, owner and chef at Love Pai Home. Our room, Earth is the first of the four rooms (elements) in this little boutique hotel. There are two small wooden chairs in the front porch of the room, where we can also see the green wheat field right across the pathway. These elements just emphasized the facts that we are here in Pai (ปาย) where the wind is cool, and the air is very clean - things that we miss in the big Bangkok city. Inside the Earth room, there is a queen size bed in the middle, with two nigthstands on either side with a chic lamp on one and a vase of glass on the other. Obviously, there is no air-conditioner in these rooms, and I assure that you won’t need it - maybe you might want to request for a heater during the coldest months instead! As the rooms ar...
The Cottage
2008-01-16 04:40:00 Hide away among the streets of Sirimungklachan, The Cottage is a nice restaurant for coffee, and simple dishes of spaghetti and pastas. Of course, there are a few creamy cakes offered as well. The Cottage is one of our favorite places in Chiang Mai, so much so that we stopped by every time we visited this northern city. As Chiang Mai becomes more urbanized and chaotic like many big cities, The Cottage is really a great place where you can just sit and chill all day with constant free-flowing wind throughout the dining area. When you entered Sirimungklachan 13, walked to the end of the street and you’ll see this mysterious, but green wooden house. That’s The Cottage with the hanging branches and roots on the main wooden gate. While The Cottage is well-known for its cakes and coffee, we were going to just have our lunch here today. We ordered Spaghetti with minced pork and sausage, as well as Pasta with shrimp, which has just been added to the menu. The cream sauce togethe...
The Runaway Clocky Alarm
2007-12-15 09:41:00 Are you one of those people who always have a hard time waking up in the morning? Well, this little but active Clocky maybe an answer for you or anyone who used to be late for an appointment . Nanda Home patent pending Clocky Alarm is one of the hottest gizmo in the USA this year as it integrates simple concepts and kinda re-inventing the way to our morning calls. Once you’ve set up the time and alarm on Clocky, there’s no turning back. Clocky will give you one chance of making your way out of bed and freshen up. Failing to do so, it’ll start jumping off your bedside table and run all over the place. And with its rather annoying alarm, you would really want to get hold of it before long. That’s the simple concept of Clocky i.e. making you chasing Clocky, getting your morning adrenalin going, which literally wakes you up. This Youtube video shows you exactly what happens! The Clocky Alarms are currently available in Thailand from The Gadget Shop at Bt.1,990.... More About: Runaway |
