2007-08-01 22:37:00 Vallibierna Peak sClimbing on the PyreneesThis friday I start my holidays! And whats the best for an starter? The mountains! My friend Guillermo [Liam] and I we will try to climb Vallibierna Mountains in the Catalan Pyrenees: 'Vallibierna' 3.067 meters [10.070 ft.] and 'Tuca Culebres' 3.062 meters [10.050 ft.]. We tried to make it last August but we couldnt because the weather, although we were pretty close to the summit. You have to listen to the mountains when they say no.You can do both peaks in the same day as there is the chance to literally crawl from the summit of Vallibierna Peak to the other [Culebres] over a very narrow [but dangerous at the same time] wall, There is a sharp comb that separates both summits wich is known as Paso del Caballo or Taillante (edge) in France. This arête is normally crossed seated on the edge but it could also be climbed seizing the edge on the N side. The seenery is amazing!I promise a full review when I get online this holidays.Wish me luck... More About: Bing , Rene , Limb

They rented a Peugeot and went all the way through the Pyrenees and Catalan countryside, drove across Spain and then headed downsouth to Granada. Some of the places where they stayed during those 3 weeks remain still a mistery, althought I ve been told by some relatively reliable sources that Jim was spotted here and there by the time [In Costa Brava and even in the Balearic islands!], you know the classic, I know someone who knows someone.. etc etc..1966In the Andalusian city of Granada Jim and Pam were supposed to meet some local people who owned a bar. The place was called 'Zingara' and it was build in a cave facing a nice seenery of 'The Alhambra'. You could see there live bands every night, poetry ga... More About: Vision , Riso

2007-05-20 12:16:00 Ladytron Madrid Heineken Arena 9th May 2007 Last 9th of May I was invited to see Ladytron live in Madrid. My friend from Manchester The Mighty Big Clive was touring with the band and after visiting other odd cities before like Lleida and A Coruña they were playing in Madrid and then in Barcelona.I never heard of this band before but its nice to get visits from friends from England so I decided to go.The venue was located in Plaza España right in Madrid city center, in fact you can not get more city center than that. After some SMS texting, I was supposed to meet Big Clive in a german sort of brewery bar right behind the venue, where the load/unload area is. It helped the fact that I live 10" from there. Its been almost a year since I saw him last time with the New Order gang for the Summercase festival. He travels all over with bands and he told me he was recently in Brazil and Argentina too, the lucky ba***rd!While the front street bars were packed of people, this one was empty. Muc... 2007-02-24 10:27:00 BikesSince I was 16 years old I always loved bikes. Its the perfect transport in Barcelona with its narrow streets and the intense traffic jams. Barcelona its one of the cities in Europe that has more bikes along with Milan I think. The perfect mediterranean climate makes things even easier. Back then you couldnt think of been on your teens and not have one, even if it was a mopet.Vespa primavera 75-125cc 1970-80My first ones were Vespa 'Primavera'. They were very popular on the 80s. You could see them everywhere, everybody had one. We used to paint and customize them in all colours and possible shapes. We also upgraded the engines from 75cc to 125cc and even change the exhausts to get more speed. There was Vespa races and gatherings near the university in Ciudad Diagonal. It was the perfect transport to go to college. What a fantastic feeling of freedom. I wont forget those days.Honda MBX 75cc 1986Then on the mid 80s the 2 stroke japanese models arrived. 2007-02-09 18:14:00 Shoegazing in the 90sSlow dive were formed in south England in 1989 and developed a very short but intense career until the mid 90s, a decade which aside of few exceptions, was pretty poor when it comes to interesting releases for my music tastes. They were and still are one of the best shoegazer bands.Slowdive songs takes me back to the early 90s when I used to go on holidays to the balearic island of Form entera. 2007-02-02 15:37:00 C.D.Carmelo [Barcelona ] vs Redfearns [Barn sley] Last November my friend Tony from Barnsley [England] asked me the favour to try to arrange a Football match for 13 year old lads in Barcelona. They were 40 english people coming over the 26th of January to see Barça-Celta from the spanish premier league. Tony thought it would be the perfect chance for Redfearns club, from the Sheffield League, to play some football with a local team. I promised him I would do my best to sort it out and find one.Although I have no connections football related anymore [I dont play since I was a teen], I remembered my sisters boyfriend Manuel plays for the 1st team of a club in Barcelona called C.D. Carmelo. Very kindly he promised me to ask the management and see if there was any availability on the dates for the younger categories teams.Manuel worked really hard on it, and asked as well several other clubs in Barcelona to see if it was possible to fix the International friendly match. But It wasnt that e... 2007-01-20 10:35:00 KES [Ken Loach ] 1969KES is the story of a 15 year old lad Billy Casper, played by a young and superb Billy Bradley. Casper is a fatherless lonely boy who lives in Barnsley a working class town located in Yorkshire, the north of England. The young boy has a difficult upbringing, under an strict english education environment. His family doesnt helps much either as he is also constantly bullied by his old brother and ignored by his mother [she refeers to Casper as a hopeless case].KES is the moving story of Casper and his falcon and symbolizes to me a true and beautiful story of hope and freedom, perhaps the only escape from a more than probably 'one way heading' to the pits. The direction of Ken Loach is masterful and the spirit and sensitivity of this film is beyond words.Although we could classify KES as a docu-drama, the film features some hilarious bits like the Football sequence or the library one. CasperKES is also made by non professional and local residents actors but Loach d... More About: Film , Trailer , Rail , TRAI

2007-01-05 20:54:00 Palamós Cost a Brava New years eve 2006My friend Jordi's parents own a house in Palamos. Palamos is in Costa Brava in the Catalan mediterranean sea right on the way upnorth to France. It takes normally around an hour from Barcelona to get there. Me and my friends Enri, Mario, Guillermo, Willy etc, we like to gather in Palamos from time to time on the odd weekend, but mostly during the summer season and also traditionally for New Year s evePalamos isn't such a great place in Costa Brava compared to others like, let's say Begur, Pals, Cadaqués or other pintoresque small villages in the area, but being in the core of Costa Brava allows you to go around and see wild beautiful 'Calas' [Catalan name for small beach], like 'Cala estreta', 'La Fosca' or 'Cala Castell'.This last one was recently on danger due to the project on the construction of lots of summer vilas right where there is a big forest now, but thanks to a strong local campaign 'Salvem Castells' seems things have ... 2006-12-19 00:34:00 Antonio Vega started writing on the late 70s and joined the popular 80s spanish band 'Nacha Pop'. In 1988 when the band split Antonio decided to start a solo career recording his first album 'No me ire mañana'[I wont go tomorrow]. In 1994 Phil Manzaneda produced 'Oceano de Sol' [Ocean sun] which is the song from the video above. Antonio has a special ability to write lyrics he is a very talented song writer. His song 'Lucha de gigantes' was included in the film 'Amores Perros [Love is a bitch] soundtrack. He had health problems since the 80's, mostly due to his well known heroin addiction. With the rumours of his death on the mid 90's he even had a tribute album by popular spanish singers and bands, a tribute he obviously didn't like as it was like if they were killing him already. In 2006 Antonio Vega is still alive and kicking, touring and playing live intimate shows all around Spain. He belongs to another time from the past and he is a part of my memories of the 80s. ... 2006-11-19 17:00:00 A quick weekend in Lincoln , England -The N ight [part 2]Coconut DF Live @Jolly Brewer, Lincoln 28th October 2006 Another great show delivered by Coconut DF on saturday night. The Jolly Brewer, an outdoors venue pub garden, was packed. There is everytime more and more people attending to the gigs, which is good considering the lack of promotion on this band. I guess is all made by the 'word to mouth', which is without a doubt the best of the promotions. The show kicked off about 9 pm by a supporting act [DJ Diltsy] who was also lined up at the Brewerfest. Techno Beats energy. A good warm up along with some pints.Coconut DF started the set about 9:45.It was the full band, Ralph Harris drums&Keyboards, Paul 'Didge', Dave Fielding with his space rock guitar riffs and an also an extra percussionist.I am not sure about the sound compared with other previous shows, but I was on the front and stage sides taking some photos, so I guess its not the best place for acoustics. The whole show wa... 2006-11-18 13:01:00 A quick weekend in Lincoln , England -The day [part1]Lincoln CathedralFor some unknown reason I always liked to visit the churches to all the places I go. I have never been a religious type of person, despite the quite common and widely extended catholic background here in Spain. Cathedrals always had a special appeal to me, but like I said more under an aesthetic point of view not religious.Lincoln Cathedral was first build in 1072 by William the conqueror. But It wasn’t as big as it is now, as it was rebuilt after en earthquake in 1185 by a French Bishop. Between the years 1307 and 1311 the central tower was raised to its present height of 83 m (271 feet). The legend 'Mandingo' enjoying the rehersalsSo on Saturday morning I went to visit Lincoln Cathedral. My friend Dave wanted to rehearse new songs for the gig he had that night in The Jolly Brewer. 2006-11-02 13:48:00 Nick Drake 1948-1974 Nick Drake was an English singer/songwriter not quite like anyone else. His career spanned over six years from the late sixties to the middle of the seventies. He released three albums during this period of time. That may not seem much, but the music is very innovative and the beauty of the songs won't leave you unaffected.Nick created his own style of guitar playing, based on several different tunings and together with his elegant finger picking techniques it resulted in beautiful harmonies that neither before nor after have been surpassed by anyone. He wrote lyrics in a mysterious, symbolic kind of way. The subjects of the songs were mostly existential but often also the classic themes of love. He was very interrested in the English language and literature, and he read much poetry. That had a great influence on him and his way of writing. On 25 November 1974, sometime in the early morning, Nick Drake died in his room at Far Leys. He had overdosed on Tryptizol. ... 2006-09-20 22:50:00 Republica del Salvador. Sant a Tecla. [but just for a while].The very next morning, or whatever it was, due to my jet lag, Tony woke me up very early. Around 6-7 am. He had a new watercraft he just bought and wanted to try it, in a river called Rio Dulce in Guatemala. A 'Sea-Doo 1500cc', with over 200 HP. He was considering also to buy a boat there and maybe a property too, so he wanted to do some early research and of course, have fun with the watercraft. At least it would be very handy for us to access to hidden places with it.I warned him that was one of the main things to me on the trip. 2006-09-20 22:11:00 Landing in El Salvador and first contact. The 5th August I flew to El Salvador via Miami. As soon as I got in the huge brand new Barajas Airport in Madrid [Just then I realized where the European funds went to, 'Mr Asnar'!], while I was queuing to check in my luggage, a guy from American Airlines offered me $900 if I would delay my journey for the next day with the same flight schedules, that was guaranteed.Fuck! That meant to fly almost for free!, and only 1 day delay. After thinking about it for about 2 minutes, I told the guy I didn’t accept it. I wanted to go see my friend and i wanted to go now!. One day is worth much more than that to me. The guy smiled and he confirmed me I was all right to fly as planned, so he left to ask someone elses on the queue. He told me they had an overbooking problem and they were doing the offer to everyone booked on the flight. I saw some people accepting it later on. More articles from this author:2006-09-07 18:10:00 My Trip to El Salvador [Intro duction ]I have been waiting for this trip with a great anticipation, since last March actually. My good old friend Antonio ‘Tony’ Blanco lives in San Salvador for a while now. We havent seen each other for about 9 or 10 years. He is a good friend, very important in my past. Since our, long gone teen days, until our late 20s.We bumped into each other in 1986 in the most casual way in 'Sant Andreu de Llavaneres', a tiny village 25 miles from Barcelona where the upper class used to go to their big summertime Vilas since the early 20th century. He lived there, and I was just an student on holidays.I worked in a local pub to get some extra cash during the Summer season and Tony used to work late nights in a trendy club in the area called 'Quattro' in 'Caldes d'Estrach' [Caldetes] about 3 miles away.He normally would come over after lunch to get some iced coffee and we used to chat briefly about the music I used to play back then [You know, the usual ...
