Only one month left...
2007-10-26 20:12:00
Wow, time is running sooo fast! I can't imagine - only 4 more weeks left and I'll be in Argentinaaa!! :) Last Monday was my last day at work. I was a bit sad about the end and not seeing my lovely colleagues again, but I'm also happy to have more time now to get everything arranged before I go. The visa progress I will finish in Argentina. So I need to buy a ticket to Uruguay for probably January

Wanted: Nice & affordable room in Buenos Aires!
2007-10-04 13:50:00
Since weeks I search the internet for a nice and affordable room to rent in a shared apartment in Buenos Aires . Well, there are many offers to find. But I'm always asking myself how people can pay these prices!?! I mean, I will get a local income when I start working in January, that's why I won't be able to pay a "tourist-price" for a room! Maybe I haven't found the right place to look for a

Soda Stereo live on-line!
2007-10-04 12:10:00
I really love the music of Soda Stereo - a friend told me they are the "U2 of South America". ;) Well, I don't like U2 a lot, but even more I like Soda Stereo! Anyway, unfortunately I can't make it to one of their concerts in Argentina which take place in October / November. But for all of us who want to see the band in concert, there is a possibility on http://sodastereo.arnet.com.ar! On

The countdown...
2007-09-16 19:22:00
Time is running... I'm already making list of things I need to arrange before the flight, things I want to take with me (I only can take with me 20kg luggage), things I will sell, give to others... Unbelievable how many things I have I didn't even know of. My inlines skates for example. Unfortunately I never really learned to use them. So now I sell them on ebay. :) A little extra money is

Finally - Buenos Aires, here I come!
2007-09-07 21:13:00
Finally I told my boss that I will leave the company by end of October to move to Argentina. He was pretty relaxed and said he would do the same if he would have the chance. :) Cool, so I can work another few weeks and maybe I also can take some jobs with me to Argentina and do some work for the company here in Germany. Would be some good extra money! Well, time is running... I'm getting more

Some thoughts three months before take-off
2007-08-26 20:59:00
Right now I'm sitting on my balcony, smoking a cigarette (damn, I started again...), and thinking about my life in Germany and my new start in Argentina. It's a great feeling to know that there will be something like a "new life" although there doesn't exist "the" reason for me to leave Germany. Meanwhile I think there's no reason necessary to start a life in a new country. I don't need to

Preparation status & Buenos Aires Songs
2007-08-09 21:25:00
During the last weeks I honestly had noooo time for doing any preparations for Argentina... I didn't even have the time for answering emails or write new posts in my blog. And I fear this won't change during the next weeks because I took over all projects of a colleague who is on vacations right now. Double work for me and less spare time during the week... But I won't complain, it's good money

A photo shooting and lots of bureaucracy
2007-07-14 21:50:00
Okay, today I did the first step in the visa process chaos... :) I went to a photographer for a "photo shooting" for getting a passport foto. Haha, it was like at the police station after getting arrested (not my own experiences of course, I only watched it on TV!). Look serious, no smile, one more, don't smile!, ok this one is good. Well, it took about 30 seconds, I paid 14.90€ and got 4 ugly

One-way ticket to Buenos Aires!
2007-07-08 21:05:00
Finally I ordered the one-way flight to Buenos Aires !! November 28th I will start in Frankfurt, first stop will be Rome, Italy. There I have an 8 hours stopover, so maybe I have the chance to have a quick city tour before the 12 hours flight to Buenos Aires starts. :) The price for the flight was quite ok, I payed about 600€. Now I'm getting nervous... :) Some friends are already planning their

Learning Spanish with love
2007-06-17 09:49:00
Last week during my Span ish clases we were reading and talking about a very nice story about El Amor... very very true.

Detailed work visa process for Argentina
2007-06-07 15:34:00
Today I received detailed information from the Argentine Embassy in Berlin, Germany (currently offline). I did ask for information about what documents I will need to apply for the work permit. The answer is in German, so I translated it into English (I think it will be almost the same formalities also in other countries): After the entry visa has been approved from the Dirección Nacional de

Apply for a work visa for Argentina
2007-06-07 10:14:00
I recently received a reply from the Argentine embassy in Germany to my question about the work permit process. They told me the following: The company in Argentina needs to obtain for an entry permit for me at the Dirección Nacional de Migraciones. Therefore we need to fix the work contract beforehand. After getting the entry permit (are there any restrictions??), the consulate of the Argentine

I can't wait any longer!!
2007-06-05 08:30:00
I recently was thinking about "why waiting for another year before I move to Argentina"? Well, there were some reasons (the most important: I want to get some more work experiences and safe some money beforehand). But then I thought well, I got a job offer in Buenos Aires, where I can work and learn the same (and even more) like I currently do here in Germany. The money will be less of course,

Watching TV from all over the world
2007-05-06 14:33:00
I was following a discussion going on in the YahooGroup BANewcomers about stopping the transmission of CNN, BBC and TV5 (and probably some other channels as well). Honestly, I don’t really understand the big trouble around this topic. I do not watch TV a lot and for my time in Argentina I won’t need to watch German (or English) TV as well… I will be in a different country, so I will watch local

Argentinean men - who are you?
2007-04-17 13:06:00
Meanwhile I know three argentine men very well (two in person and one "digital"… without telling names ;). And I'm still a bit surprised - they all are very nice, open-minded, willing to help... Probably I have/had the wrong stereo type picture of this "species" in my mind!? Although I don't like to pigeonhole somebody, there was a certain picture of argentinean man in my mind, probably because I've read some not very nice stories about argentine men. ;-)Well, three people are not a significant number for making a meaningful conclusion (I love statistics! ;-), but I'm happy to make this experience right now. I'm very interested in knowing more about their thoughts and I try to find out the little cultural differences between Germans and Argentines. Don't get me wrong, I'm not "hunting" argentine guys… ;-) It just happens since I'm running around through the web searching for information about Argentina to be well prepared for next year. And of course, I have contact to s...

"Durch Himmel und Hölle" - a movie about adoption of kids from a foreign c
2007-04-09 17:56:00
Last week I was watching a movie on TV about a couple (Tom and Rebecca Gerling) trying to adopt a baby in Germany, called "Durch Himmel und Hölle" ("Through heaven and hell"). But the bureaucracy process in Germany was very hard and so it didn't succeed. Rebecca thought about adopting a baby from a foreign country. She talked to a friend who knows a German lawyer in Salta (Dr. Stein) who is

But the bureaucracy process in Germany was very hard and so it didn't succeed. Rebecca thought about adopting a baby from a foreign country. She talked to a friend who knows a German lawyer in Salta (Dr. Stein) who is willing to help the couple during the adoption process in Argentina. The story was not very exciting, but I was curious to see the story taking place in Buenos Aires and later in Salta:When Rebecca and Tom arrived in Buenos Aires, they go by cab (with a German speaking and very friendly taxi driver!! ;) to their hotel. It looked like it was near the Obelisk on Avd. 9 de Julio, very exclusive, and a German speaking concierge. ;-) On their first evening they are going to a tango evening, what else! And what else should happen next? Surprise – Tom gets kidnapped on the street... and voilá – a...

Some thoughts about Moving to Argentina

I already tried to explain my reasons in earlier posts but there are still questions I receive about this topic and I'd like to explain it in more details. Well, meanwhile my first answer to the question „Why?“ is: „Why not?!“. I think this is a reasonable response, no? ;-) I mean, why

I already tried to explain my reasons in earlier posts but there are still questions I receive about this topic and I'd like to explain it in more details.Well, meanwhile my first answer to the question „Why?“ is: „Why not?!“. I think this is a reasonable response, no? ;-) I mean, why should I stay here in Germany when I think it's time to go somewhere else? As my mom said: „You have a great job, a nice appartment, all your friends and family live here, and I am your mom and don't want to see your kids grow up thousends of kilometers away from me!“ Well, she is happy for me to go my own way because she knows that I'm always doing what I want. And at the moment I do not have any plans of having a baby, mom!! :-) And I'm not a materialistic person at all. I don't care much about earning lots of money, having a house, a car, a yacht... I just want to live a life...

So many things are going on at the moment... Meanwhile my "date of moving to Argentina " is set to 1. April 2008 (no April Fool!)!! Sí, Argentina, yo vengo!! :-) How comes? Well, I started a new job position here in Germany which has a limitation until end of March next year – perfecto! And I also already received a job offer from Argentina! That's amazing – it's exactly the way I wanted to have it. It's like a dream comes true... and I'm very optimistic now again that things will move in a positive way! There has been a huge up and down during the last weeks because of several reasons. one was a guy I met and I really like very much. What should I do if I fall in love here in Germany before I leave next year? Well, "what happens, happens". At the moment I don't think that I would stay here because of a guy. This should only happen if it's THE man... you know what I mean!? ;-) I know that things like that always happen when you don't expect it. So, let's see! Moving to A...

My FAQs about moving to Buenos Aires (Q2)
2007-02-13 21:13:00
Wow, my FAQ serial seems to work pretty well! Thanks again to Alan Patrick an Facundo for their comments to my first question "Buying a Round-trip or an One-way ticket to Buenos Aires ?".I hope to find again some responses on the next question:2. How to find a (shared) apartment in Buenos Aires?I'd like to live in a shared apartment for the first time because I think it's the best way to get in contact with people quite easily and, of course, it's the cheapest way to live (like I do here in Germany :-). I found a website "buenos aires craigslist" with interesting and obviously well-priced offers from mostly private persons. What do you think about this? Could you recommend other useful resources? What do I need to consider when I sign a rental contract regarding e.g. security guarantee, term of lease etc.?
