Windows Restaurant at the Carlton George Hotel
2010-02-08 10:22:00 I'm actually very surprised that this restaurant was not featured in your top ten and can only assume that this is because you have not had the good fortune More About: Windows , Hotel , Restaurant , George
Happy New One Anawrat
2010-01-04 17:30:00 I hope your festive break was as jam-packed with exciting excitement as mine.I'm now fresh back from Cardiff and gazing out at the snow-laden ice of Glasgow and towards another year full of promise. I wish you all the very best for 2010, and will (try to) start back in the coming weeks on the creative train delay that is the Top Ten Glasgow Guide.See you all soon... More About: Happy
State of the Bunion 2009
2009-12-21 10:48:00 Well, as I heave myself around after another weekend of festive over indulgence, I find myself at the end of another outstanding year. For Tracey and myself, despite the recession 2009 was pretty near to perfect. Everyone we know healthy and happy; starting the year with a big bang in Galway; holidays to California and Nevada, Manchester (twice), London, Letterkenny, Newcastle, Albufeira and plenty of wee days out and weekends away here and there; looking forward to ending the year in Cardiff; celebrating our Goddaughter Brooke's Christening; some sterling gigs including U2 then Bruce Springsteen at Hampden, Russell Howard, Metallica, New Kids on the Block (erm...), The Killers, Louis XIV; and much more.On the site, I didn't quite complete the restaurant and attractions bits, so as promised last year, you might see me running down Buchanan Street naked on Christmas Day, but you will have noted the getting around section completed, a flatsharing bit, additions to the Glesca patter g... A change is as good as a podcast
2009-11-30 16:49:00 Well, that's the first series of our little For the Love of G...lasgow podcast over and done with, more's the pity. We're taking a wee break for a bit while we work on our respective solo projects (ahem). I'll be concentrating on my new podcast for the site, Glasgow Generations, which I'll be doing with my good ol' Dad, Charlie Docherty, and you'll see from the link here that it promises to be a light-hearted look through the history of Glasgow since the 1940's, from my faither's own wizened eyes and ears. You'll see that the podcast section of the site has changed a little to incorporate the new podcast, and I'll be recording the first episode tomorrow night, meaning that it should be ready for download at some point on Wednesday. As for Alan, he'll be OK. I'll be checking in on him now and then to make sure he's preparing for the next series of For the Love of G...lasgow, and will let you know as and when it's back up and running. Some superb Glasgow jokes
2009-11-20 11:43:00 Thanks go to my brother Steven for sending me through some fantastic Glasgow jokes, and I've now hurried them into my Glesca Patter section on the site to give you another flavour of Glaswegian humour.A wee example for you for starters -While being interviewed for a job as a bus driver, a guy is asked:"What would you do if you had a rowdy passenger?""I'd put him off at the next stop," he says."Good. And what would you do if you couldn't get the fare?""I'd take the first two weeks in August," he replies. Now, if you don't get that, you're likely not from Scotland so don't worry (it's about the Glasgow Fair holiday, and he's saying that...ach, who cares...), but feel free to have a look at the rest - there's some real gems in there and if you've got any of your own, fire them over to me and I'll list them on the page. Tony Roma's Glasgow - best ribs in town
2009-11-10 18:14:00 With only one box left to tick in the restaurant section, comes my new review of Tony Roma's Glasgow restaurant, definitely the best place in town for ribs.Have a read about why this place exists in direct contradiction with the extreme sports centre in which it resides, and how much over the years it's begun to stick happily to my fingers as a good slab of ribs should.Once I finish off my little piece on the Sisters restaurant in Glasgow that'll be my eating out section done for now, leaving me free to focus on ploughing my way through the attractions bit.A hard slog I know, but someone's got to do it... Some more Glasgow sayings
2009-10-15 13:49:00 I've finally got around to updating my wee page on some common Glasgow sayings, using the suggestions you've all kindly emailed in.Keep them flying in and I'll get them onto the page as quickly as I can, so thanks for your help in building this page.Yours aye...
Another completion - it must be the weather
2009-09-20 22:54:00 OK, so I mentioned that the restaurant section was next on my little tragic hit list of things to do on the site, but once again I got sidetracked, and have trotted out a wee section on flatsharing in Glasgow.Basically, flatsharing is becoming a great deal more popular in the City these days, and given the regulation and quality now built into this type of accommodation, no longer can it be associated with the old 1970s style barking landlord and grubby student lodger.More and more people in Glasgow are saving money on rental by sharing with others, or by letting out spare rooms in their house to make some extra cash on the side, taking advantage of some tax savings while they're at it.So feel free to have a wee look, hit the sparerooms site I introduce you to, and see if it seems like something you'd be interested in. Dah-dah...Another section completed
2009-09-18 12:01:00 Remember what I said at the tail end of last year? The whole thing about running naked down Buchanan Street if I didn't get some sections of the site completed by the end of 2009?Well, it's September, and I've finally got round to finalising the section on getting around Glasgow, with the addition of the guide on the Glasgow sightseeing tours.Next stop therefore, the restaurant section, failing which get your cameras at the ready as I strip off in public (or some blankets, whatever would make you feel more comfortable about the whole situation...). Give it up for Saint Mungo
2009-09-15 16:06:00 Another page down on the attractions section in the site, this time about the Glasgow Cathedral, a building once declared as a place of pilgrimage only Rome could equal, and recognised widely as the high point in the construction of cathedrals in Europe.Have a read here about its place in the history of Glasgow. Turning Passion into Cash
2009-08-24 16:15:00 Here's a wee page introducing you to my venture into cyberspace, how I got going with the Top Ten Glasgow Guide and how it turns a profit for me every day automatically.I've just been feeling so lucky to have had an opportunity like this that I wanted to pass on exactly how you can do the same, how you can take whatever you're passionate about and turn it into a business you can be proud of.In the meantime, now that the hotel section has been polished off, my eyes are turning now to the getting around Glasgow section as well as the restaurants page, so hopefully you'll see some more stuff appearing on the site soon. A little gem in the West End
2009-08-21 10:39:00 I've just polished off a new page on the Kelvingrove Hotel Glasgow, a little gem of a place in the West End of the City.I really love places like this, where when you stay in them you feel like you're not staying in the City, and maybe that's because it's small, family run and friendly. Have a wee look and see if it tickles your fancy... More About: West End
Let's prove the critics wrong
2009-08-19 13:37:00 I have this seething hatred for critics - they ruin everything, and nine times out of ten they'll assume that even though what they're yapping on about is a matter of personal, subjective opinion, we should listen to them as they're more qualified than us to tell us what we should like or dislike. What's this little rant about?Hotel critics this time. I've just completed a wee page on the impressive Ramada Glasgow City Centre Hotel, and on the page I've had to hold back on the folks who've had nothing better to do than to slam it into the ground. As far as I'm concerned, given the quality it presents as you'd expect from such an internationally reknowned chain, this place deserves being in my list of the top ten hotels in Glasgow, and its place there is a sign that people can make up their own minds about where to stay.OK, so you might disagree if you've been there yourself, but please don't look at the reviews online of this hotel and base your decision only on them. So what's this Theatreland Glasgow stuff?
2009-08-15 17:38:00 Yup, apparently there's a Theatreland District in Glasgow - I found it when I was researching for the best hotels in the City, and right at the centre of it is the Express by Holiday Inn City Centre Glasgow Theatreland. What a title eh?So here's my wee page on the place, and you should find that it's a perfect hotel to rest your head after a great performance. 2009-08-14 17:01:00 Have a wee look at my new page on one of the top ten hotels in Glasgow, Malmaison Glasgow.Hopefully I'll be completing the hotel section in the next few weeks while Alan's away finding himself in Europe so there'll be less focusing on the podcast, but no doubt I'll get sidetracked by the usual dangerous combo of free time and a thirst for drink...
A totally radical place to stay
2009-07-30 15:50:00 And the hits just keep on coming.Fresh from the urgent urgency that led to the last two hotel pages going up in the last few days (which of course resulted in having to go back and run an error-strewn spell-check), I've completed a page on one of the true gems of the City, the 5 Star Radisson SAS Glasgow.Click to find out whether you need to dress up as a member of the SAS to book a night there... What kind of name's Ibis anyway?
2009-07-30 13:06:00 Ah ha.Now there's you thinking that I couldn't keep this momentum going on the site, that I'd be curled back up into my little ball of laziness once again. I knew you were thinking it.So it'll come as a suprise, pleasant or otherwise, that I've just polished off another new page in the hotel section, this time on the quality budget Ibis Glasgow City Centre hotel. This one's not just for the students who find that the hostels have booked out, as despite the price for a room there you can still expect a great hotel in the Ibis, which is one of the reasons it makes it into my top 10.More hotels to follow soon, if I can just stave off for a while your very apparent doubt that I can keep this movement going...
It's the Millennium - am I too late?
2009-07-29 23:00:00 Well, who'd have thunk it?A few months pass without any sign of progress on the site other than with the all-encompassing podcast, and here's me completing a page on the Millennium Hotel Glasgow out of the blue.I'm trying to turn over a new leaf again - look at me there, writing away with all that anticipation. Just you wait...Anywho, it's the first brand new page on the site for a while, and to be honest, given how many times I've sat suffering at skull-crushing seminars about this and that at this hotel in the past, I thought it had paid its dues, that it finally justified its place in the top ten. Have a wee read, and if you ever end up staying there feel free to leave a review when you get back.I'm off to watch some more Rocky movies to get me pumped enough to start on another page... Take the candle from the window...
2009-06-03 11:26:00 I'm back. I've been away touring California and Nevada for a while and have returned to some superb Glasgow sunshine - two sumptously drunken BBQs already since I landed. So it's back to the grind and I'm looking forward to getting up to speed with the site again and recording some new nonsense on the podcast. It's always pretty daunting (albeit pleasing) to note that in your absence on vacation your site's been visited more times than ever before and your podcast listener numbers have trebled, as it makes you wonder whether people prefer it when you're away......I'm sure that's not the case though (eh? eh?), so check back here soon for some exciting movement on the site.I'm off to enjoy what's bound to be the last few hours of Glasgow's summertime. Out of hiding - Glasgow Cathedral Precinct
2009-03-31 15:03:00 I've not actually completed the section on it yet, but it's come to my attention that at this point, if you type the words 'glasgow cathedral precinct' into Google, my new page on it is already at number 2 in the search results.Who knows how that's happened, but now that the cat's out the bag, here's the link to the page. I'm still not finished the whole thing yet, so I'd love to hear whether you think my rant about sectarianism in Glasgow is a bit too heavy, or otherwise if you think it's fine.I hope to complete the whole section soon and will of course let you know. Progress. What did I tell you?
2009-03-25 12:40:00 March 2009 is turning out to be one of the most productive months I've had on the site for quite some time.I've just polished off a new page in the travelling around Glasgow section. Only one more to go before it's complete...This one's about booking a more personalised Glasgow tour, and introduces you to, for me, the best company in Glasgow for that. Booking a bespoke tour of Glasgow and also of Scotland beyond will give you more out of our Country than doing it any other way. You're escorted around the place in comfort, based on your own needs and desires, and doing it this way will make it more likely that your memories will end up a little more special. The Premier Inn Charing Cross Glasgow
2009-03-23 12:53:00 So what sets the Premier Inn Charing Cross Glasgow Hotel apart from the rest?It does exactly as it says on the tin - great location, standard cleanliness and customer service across the board, good night's rest, reasonably-priced restaurant - I've never had a second thought about booking a Premier Inn, and after staying here I hope you agree.Just make sure Lenny Henry's not in the next room...
How about the Jurys Inn Glasgow?
2009-03-23 12:48:00 This is a massive slice of cool in the City Centre of Glasgow .You can always rely on a Jury's being where you want it and how you want it, and the Jurys Inn Glasgow on Jamaica Street is no exception to the rule.Take a look around the place using the link here, and from all the reviews about the hotel you'll see here, you'll soon understand why it makes it very easily onto my Top Ten list of the best hotels in Glasgow.
