Living beside school
2008-04-24 23:11:00 I live in a compound that sits right beside the Ateneo de Davao High School campus. I’m up early for my flight to Manila — actually, I’ve been up for an hour already. From last night till this early morning, I’d been hearing rambunctious noises over at the campus. Kids. Must’ve spent the night there ... More About: Living , Community

Ang Dabawenyo sa Maynila
2008-04-24 17:59:00 I’m flying to Manila tomorrow and will stay there till the 30th. It’s been more than two years that I haven’t been to the capital! The last time was in 2005 when I lived there for half the year to take care of a couple of business projects. How time flies! I look forward to reconnecting ...

Half-baked
2008-04-20 17:59:00 When you go around town, you’ll notice quite a few ongoing construction projects and new restaurants and coffee shops. There are more businesses registered with the Department of Trade & Industry, albeit mostly SMEs. It really looks like Davao City is a boomtown again. But if you look closely, you might notice some things that are a bit disappointing. Like how they’re half-baked. For example, a restaurant that looks magnificent on the outside, and might even be quite presentable inside… but doesn’t spend a peso on staff training. Or — and here’s a pet peeve of mine — a well-designed and glossy brochure that you know cost an arm and a leg to produce… but the literature is poorly written. Tonight my friends and I were at the “seawall” (where the Statue of David stands), and we were laughing at why the management felt they had to put signs on everything. Reading them just made us laugh even harder. The English was bad, ... More About: Baked , Half , Half Baked
Of tats and body piercings
2008-04-18 19:19:00 When I was in college, I had my ears pierced with tiny gold studs. If memory serves me right, I was the only guy in campus with both ears pierced. It was a statement, yes — aren’t all body ornamentations (rings, studs, tattoos, what have you) done to declare something to the world? For me, ... More About: Body , Piercings
Gas-saving community effort
2008-04-17 12:42:00 An emailed message sent out to mailing lists claims that we might be able to force big oil companies to lower their pump prices if we stop buying gas from them and shift to local gas stations. More About: Community , Saving

Why eat at fast food chains??
2008-03-31 21:53:00 I couldn’t believe I let myself walk into a McDonald’s today. It was past one in the morning and none of my preferred joints were open anymore, and I was hankering for french fries. Still, I didn’t order any of their meat burgers — I had a Fillet-o-Fish, believing as I want to that it’s ... More About: Food , Fast Food , Fast , Chains

Hating the rain?
2008-03-28 16:00:00 At the threshold of summer… and it’s raining. I hear from my friends in Manila that it’s getting really hot over there, but here in Davao it’s been raining too much. Not that I’d rather it was hot here. But, the rain’s dampening my spirits. I’ve never really liked the rain — it’s always caused ... More About: Rain

Sky Rider @ Eden Nature Park
2008-03-20 13:46:00 Typically called “zip line”, the Sky Rider is one helluva ride!
