New emergency response center

Davao City still enjoys the distinction of being the only city in the Philippines with an emergency response center available on call 24 hours a day. Just dial 911 on any landline or mobile phone (toll free) in case of emergency. Recently, the Davao City 911 Emergency Response Center opened a new operations hub in the south — a stone’s throw away from where I live, in fact. The new center used to be a public market. And, for the life of me, I cannot fathom why the city government back in the ’80s decided to put a wet market in the middle of a residential district. Needless to say, it was a terrible idea. A few months back, and up until 31 May 2009, adidas Philippines had a very attractive sales promo: Wanted Old Shoes. Shoppers were given a ₱500 to ₱1,000 discount on adidas purchases, provided they brought in a pair of old sports shoes for donation. adidas was able to collect thousands of pairs via 100+ participating stores nationwide. These shoes were donated recently to the Pamulaan Center for Indigenous Peoples’ Education in Mintal, Davao City. In simple rites but in a festive setting, adidas executives, led by Country Manager Nolet Puno, turned over the shoes to the students of Pamulaan. All who study at Pamulaan are children of indigenous peoples from all over the country. adidas assets graced the event, among them Purefoods cagers, Enrico Villanueva and Peter Jun Simon, who hails from Davao City. My personal celebration of Philippine Independence Day got extended with a new pair of special havaianas® flip-flops that I got today. Gas-saving community effort

I got this email from my family’s e-group, and I thought I’d blog about it. I’m not exactly sure if this could work, but, like it says in the email, if enough people join in, it just might have an effect. The gist of it is, if millions of people stop buying gas from the big oil companies, they’d be forced to lower their prices. For example, we could top up at Phoenix (which is a homegrown fuel company, by the way) or at other local gas stations. But… don’t these local companies get their gas and diesel from the big oil companies? The scheme presented by the email sender sounds simplistic to me, but why not you be the judge? I hear we are going to hit close to P60.00 a LITER by next summer and it might go higher!! Want gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united action. The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn’t continue to “hurt” ourselves by refusing to buy gas. It was more ...
