Missing Davao? but not too much
2008-06-06 09:14:00 I’ve been in the nation’s capital since the 2nd of June, and I have 2 more days to go before I go back to my beloved Davao . However, I’m not really all that excited to go back just yet. In fact, I feel like extending my stay here for another week or so! Being in Metro ... More About: Events , Word , Missing , Metro Manila
Off to Metro Manila again
2008-05-31 05:49:00 Ang Dabawenyo will be flying to Manila again, and the trip will be related to blogging again. Only recently I was in the nation’s capital for iBlog4, but I didn’t stay long enough to enjoy the respite. This time I’ll be staying for a few extra nights. I’d expected that a friend of mine in Makati ... More About: Metro , Metro Manila

Davao-Samal bridge: at what cost?
2008-05-14 03:00:00 In last Monday’s issue of Edge Davao , my fellow columnist, Mr. Aurelio Peņa of Trading Post, wrote about the planned bridge that will span the gulf from mainland Davao to the island of Samal. We haven’t even finished rebuilding Bankerohan Bridge yet… but I digress. Mr. Peņa’s article was entitled “Arab money to build Davao-Samal bridge“. ... More About: Cost
Cebu Pacific opens Davao hub
2008-05-13 01:45:00 Great news for us down South! Cebu Pacific , the leading domestic airline in the Philippines, has inaugurated its operations hub in Davao City last 8 May 2008, to further serve the island of Mindanao. Hopefully this will mean more air routes to the “missionary” destinations on the island. This is the carrier’s third hub, after ... More About: Tours , Cebu Pacific
Kadayawan 2008 logo
2008-05-09 17:59:00 Take a look at the new logo for Davao’s festival of festivals. This year’s members of the promotions committee are all young, energetic and forward-looking Dabawenyos, and that fact is evident in this new image of Kadayawan sa Dabaw. We thought (I was invited to join the promotions committee) that the Kadayawan festival needed a boost ... More About: Festivals , Logo , 2008
Caffe Vivere up for grabs
2008-05-08 13:16:00 Sad news — Caffe Vivere is closing shop sometime soon. Owner Mawie Bawar texted me yesterday and asked if I knew anyone possibly interested in taking over a restaurant business. Unfortunately, Mawie will be relocating back to Manila already, is why. So, I thought it might be good to blog about it, to help her find ...
The crutch of intelligence
2008-05-04 16:04:00 Recently I was engaged in an online exchange of ideas regarding atheism. I’d met Benj of Atheista.net at a bloggers’ get-together in Manila last week, and checking his blog last night, I was regaled by a lengthy treatise on intelligence and belief systems. I respect Benj and I wouldn’t insult his intelligence by engaging him in ... More About: Intelligence
Kangaroo Coffee Company
2008-05-03 16:30:00 I was at a new café that’s recently opened shop in Davao, Kangaroo Coffee Company . It’s on Tionko, just after Bangko Sentral. I’ve been there twice already: the first time with blogger friends, the night before our flight to Manila last week, and this time with Bob Martin (Mindanao.com, Live in the Philippines, among others). ...
Disgusting customer service at Bo?s on F. Torres
2008-05-01 11:55:00 For long enough, I have avoided writing about my experiences with the customer service of Bo’s Coffee Club — the one on F. Torres St. You see, I usually shy away from writing negatively about something that has the potential to change. But when I see it all the time… Today I was at Bo’s — ... Back in Davao?
2008-04-30 17:59:00 Landed in Davao City a couple of hours ago. I must say, although I love living in Davao, the less-than-a-week stint in the capital felt like it was cut short (although I actually extended my stay a few days). It had been nearly 3 years since I’d been to Manila before this trip, and it ... More About: Back , Metro Manila
Living beside school
2008-04-24 23:11:00 I live in a compound that sits right beside the Ateneo de Davao High School campus. I’m up early for my flight to Manila — actually, I’ve been up for an hour already. From last night till this early morning, I’d been hearing rambunctious noises over at the campus. Kids. Must’ve spent the night there ... More About: Living , Community
Ang Dabawenyo sa Maynila
2008-04-24 17:59:00 I’m flying to Manila tomorrow and will stay there till the 30th. It’s been more than two years that I haven’t been to the capital! The last time was in 2005 when I lived there for half the year to take care of a couple of business projects. How time flies! I look forward to reconnecting ...

Half-baked
2008-04-20 17:59:00 When you go around town, you’ll notice quite a few ongoing construction projects and new restaurants and coffee shops. There are more businesses registered with the Department of Trade & Industry, albeit mostly SMEs. It really looks like Davao City is a boomtown again. But if you look closely, you might notice some things that ... More About: Society , Baked , Half , Half Baked
Of tats and body piercings
2008-04-18 19:19:00 When I was in college, I had my ears pierced with tiny gold studs. If memory serves me right, I was the only guy in campus with both ears pierced. It was a statement, yes — aren’t all body ornamentations (rings, studs, tattoos, what have you) done to declare something to the world? For me, ... More About: Body , Piercings
Gas-saving community effort
2008-04-17 12:42:00 I got this email from my family’s e-group, and I thought I’d blog about it. I’m not exactly sure if this could work, but, like it says in the email, if enough people join in, it just might have an effect. The gist of it is, if millions of people stop buying gas from the big oil companies, they’d be forced to lower their prices. For example, we could top up at Phoenix (which is a homegrown fuel company, by the way) or at other local gas stations. But… don’t these local companies get their gas and diesel from the big oil companies? The scheme presented by the email sender sounds simplistic to me, but why not you be the judge? I hear we are going to hit close to P60.00 a LITER by next summer and it might go higher!! Want gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united action. The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn’t continue to “hurt” ourselves by refusing to buy gas. It was more ... More About: Community , Saving

My blog?s new logo
2008-04-02 17:59:00 I’ve been on a logo rampage since late last month, feverishly thinking up cool logos — if I do say so myself — for my blogs. Why eat at fast food chains??
2008-03-31 21:53:00 I couldn’t believe I let myself walk into a McDonald’s today. It was past one in the morning and none of my preferred joints were open anymore, and I was hankering for french fries. Still, I didn’t order any of their meat burgers — I had a Fillet-o-Fish, believing as I want to that it’s ... More About: Society , Food , Fast Food , Fast , Chains

Hating the rain?
2008-03-28 16:00:00 At the threshold of summer… and it’s raining. I hear from my friends in Manila that it’s getting really hot over there, but here in Davao it’s been raining too much. Not that I’d rather it was hot here. But, the rain’s dampening my spirits. I’ve never really liked the rain — it’s always caused ... More About: Rain
