Impressions From the Pacific Life Open Tennis Tournament at the Indian Well
2008-04-01 23:00:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: The yearly tennis tournament at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden is one of the largest tennis tournaments in the world. The largeness factor draws from presence of top male and female tennis players from around the world, largest attendance aside from the Grand Slam Tournaments, prizes that are astronomical and a 16,000 seat center stadium. This trip was our gift to a close family member. We were also eagerly anticipating the event because it's not every day that we attend such a major sporting event in Southern California. We arrived a day in advance and spent the night in Palm Springs. This was also Easter weekend and all hotels in Indian Wells were completely booked. On the day of the finals, we drove out towards the Tennis Garden.Rate and Review : Impressions From the Pacific Life Open Tennis Tournament at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, Indian Wells, C
Good Customer Service from Travelpro Regarding Atlantic Luggage
2008-03-31 18:50:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Several years ago I purchased a pair of Atlantic Travel Vault 2.0 pieces of luggage. They were in the thirty and twenty-six inch sizes. I like hardcase luggage and these seemed very solid and sturdy. I took them on multiple trips and had great experience with them. They were heavy even when empty but seemed bulletproof. One thing kept malfunctioning though. The lock or, more notably, the bar that the lock latches onto kept dislodging. The remainder of the suitcase would be intact. Since these cases had a ten year warranty I took them in several times to get the locks fixed and they would be fixed promptly. In the latter part of 2007, both suitcases experienced the same exact problem again.

Quick Lunch at Divino Italian Restaurant in Brentwood, California
2008-03-28 23:35:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Divino has been on my list of restaurants to visit for some time. It has a good reputation for food and service which warrants a meal there. On the day of our visit we were completing some shopping in the area and were looking for a lunch restaurant. I looked around and noticed a sign for Divino. It was open for lunch on this Saturday and there was no wait making it very convenient. We had already parked on the street at a metered spot. Finding parking can be annoying in this part of Brentwood. They do validate for parking at Divino but I do not know for which parking lot. There were a few dining tables outside on the patio. We opted to be seated inside. The hostess welcomed us and seated us a table for two.Rate and Review : Quick Lunch at Divino Italian Restaurant in Brentwood, California
Dinner at Cafeteria Mediterranean Cafe on Newbury Street, Boston, Massachus

SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Every time I visit Boston one of my favorite activities tends to be just walking around and enjoying the cityscape. This time was not different. I met up with a few good friends and enjoyed a cool evening strolling around Back Bay. We were also on the prowl for a good meal. Several restaurants that my Boston friends thought of were closed for one reason or another. On Newbury Street we spotted a restaurant with a sign and the inscription "Cafe teria". It looked like a cool modern place, the menu we found outside was appealing both food and price wise so we decided to give it a shot. Overnight Stay at the Hilton Palm Springs Resort in Palm Springs, Californi
2008-03-26 17:39:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Easter weekend must have been one of the busiest hotel weekends for the Palm Springs area this year. The finals of the Indian Wells Tennis Tournament were also scheduled making available accommodations scarce. We searched and searched and finally settled for the Hilton Palm Springs Resort . The price was not over the top, the location was good and online reviews solid. Apart from the Hilton, we would have either had to settle for out of town motels or luxury lodgings exceeding three hundred dollars per night. We found the best price (around $200) at hotels.com and booked it there. Often, this amount of money can buy you a luxury resort room in Palm Springs but for this weekend that would not happen. It was a relief after all to have our accommodations all set up so that we could happily anticipate the coming weekend.Rate and Review : Overnight Stay at the Hilton Palm Springs Resort in Palm Springs, California
Riding the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway in Palm Springs, California
2008-03-24 18:47:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: On our way to Palm Springs last weekend, we already had plans to visit the Indian Palm Canyons and explore the region populated by the earliest human inhabitants of this area. However, while entering the city of Palm Springs we noted the sign for the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. On a whim we decided to add this destination to our list of activities in the desert cities. We drove up the steep road for several miles until we reached one of the parking lots. It was Easter weekend and we expected a large crowd. This was not the case around noon when we arrived. Shuttle buses quickly whizzed us from the parking lot to the Valley Station at 2,643ft/806m elevation.Rate and Review : Riding the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway in Palm Springs, California
Hello From Toronto - Exploring Chinatown and Kensington
2008-03-21 17:51:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: In all my explorations of Toronto over the last few years I have learned that in addition to numerous world-class sights and attractions, Toronto has many lesser known nooks and crannies that are full of history, interesting stories and anecdotes. One of the best people to learn from about the twists and turns of Toronto's history is Bruce Bell, a well-known author, playwright, actor, standup comedian who is also a passionate historian and has become one of Toronto's most well-recognized history experts. The story of how I met Bruce is also quite intriguing: my brother, who happens to live in Austria, was reading a German travel magazine that was featuring a story about Bruce, so he called me up and said that there is this guy that is doing all these neat walking tours through Toronto and that's how I connected with Bruce - through a European detour. Over the past couple of years I have taken two of his tours, covering the downtown area and featu...

Lunch at Ayara Thai Cuisine in Westchester, California near LAX
2008-03-21 00:34:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: We have somehow managed to bypass Ayara Restaurant during our regular lunch time explorations. Only after online research did I notice that it is a very popular eatery and liked by many. That was a sign that we need to pay attention to it and visit it soon. The initial visit occurred last week. Its location is not visible from larger streets in the vicinity (like Manchester Blvd. or La Tijera). Once you make your way onto 87th Street you will notice its exterior. We knew of its location in advance. Plentiful free parking is available at the large lots near the restaurant.Rate and Review : Lunch at Ayara Thai Cuisine in Westchester , California near LAX
Super Cool Travel Products at A+R Store on Abbot Kinney Blvd in Venice, CA

SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: I peeked into the A+R Store on Abbot Kinney Blvd in Venice just for a few minutes and then stayed for almost half an hour exploring the plethora of cool products on display. They carry well designed, unique items that you probably would not be able to find elsewhere. My interest was mainly in their travel related merchandise. Two products caught my attention: Paul Koh's Silicone Carry-On Travel Bottles and XXD's Load-Ding Device Organizer. Now that probably does not sound that exciting so read on to see the photos and read about the product's functionality.

SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: In a small town hidden among the red rocks and stunning greenery of southern Utah , lies an authentic Elizabethan theatre where audiences can enjoy the immortal words of Shakespeare while sitting under the stars. Adams grew into the theatre director, actor and teacher who founded the Utah Shakespearean Festival . Today the Utah Shakespearean Festival is one of the most respected Shakespeare Festivals in the world, having received a Tony Award for Outstanding Regional Theatre in 2000.

Dinner at Legal Sea Foods Park Square in Boston, MA
2008-03-17 19:08:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: First week in March was quite the busy convention time in Boston . This meant that it was not an easy task to find available tables at popular eateries. We just ventured into town hoping for the best. It was a rainy and windy evening and not really conducive for walking. Fortunately, our hotel shuttle driver made a few suggestions and offered to drive us to several possible restaurants. The second one on his list, Legal Sea Foods , appeared nice a and had a wait time of "only" forty five minutes. Their bar offered a good place to wait for our table so we decided to stay. Dinner at Primitivo Wine Bistro on Abbot Kinney in Venice, California
2008-03-16 04:56:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Last weekend, we took a good friend out for a birthday dinner. During the search for a perfect place, we had some basic requirements. Good food, fun atmosphere, a new eatery (for us) and vicinity to West LA were high on the list. I have been writing down names of candidates for occasions like this for a while. Under the letter "P" there was Primitivo. Primitivo Wine Bar was recommended to us in several instances but for one reason or another we never visited it. This night would change that. We made reservations on Thursday afternoon for a Friday evening visit. A table for three at seven in the evening would be waiting for us. Four Nights at the Doubletree Club Hotel Bayside in Boston, Massachusetts
2008-03-14 21:23:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Doubletree Club Hotel Boston Bayside was booked in my name as a part of a business trip in early March. A large trade show was taking place at the Boston Convention Center and this hotel was to be our base. I arrived to Logan Airport late on the Sunday before the big event. A call to the hotel's reception ensured free pickup and transport to the premises by their own shuttle. The shuttle did arrive promptly and the entire drive did not take more than fifteen minutes. The lobby was sleepy and empty. I was greeted by the staff which processed the reservations. A trainee was taking care of my paperwork with an experienced employee by their side. This did take a while due to the fact that I had two different reservations but I did not mind it. I was able to stay in the same room and that's what mattered to me. I got my warm chocolate chip cookie (which I learned is their signature welcome) and headed up to the room.Rate and Review : Four Nights at th...

Breakfast at The Paramount Restaurant, Beacon Hill, Boston, MA
2008-03-11 18:00:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: My inquiries about a great breakfast destination in Boston near the Red Line netted Paramount as a worthwhile option. Google Maps did not help me much as they suggested that it was 1.2 miles from the Charles MGH station (I guess driving). Actually, it was perhaps a five minute walk from it, down Charles Avenue. I was pulling a rolling briefcase behind me and the brick paved sidewalks provided a bumpy and noisy ride for my laptop. When I saw the sign I missed the entrance and walked into a stairwell of a residential building. A quick correction (next door over) brought me inside The Paramount Restaurant which has been in business since 1937. Everything in Boston is "since" something, and I do not mean since 1997.Rate and Review : Breakfast at The Paramount Restaurant, Beacon Hill , Boston, MA
Dinner at Neptune Oyster Restaurant in Boston's North End
2008-03-10 13:00:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: There seems to be broad agreement online regarding recommendations for a good seafood place in Boston . The name of the restaurant is Neptune Oyster. When this topic arises in a forum, someone usually suggests this eatery and everyone else concurs. Knowing how Internet discussions go, there are always dissenter and critics, no matter what the topic, but not many regarding Neptune. This fact made restaurant selection for an early evening visit an easy affair. It was the middle of the week and I headed out of the office after completing my business obligations close to five o'clock in the afternoon. After hopping on and off several colors of MTBA subway lines I ended up on the Orange Line. Havermeyer exit appeared closest to my destination. From this station exit I made my way up Hanover, through the new park area to Salem Street. Neptune Oyster sign was soon in front of me.Rate and Review : Dinner at Neptune Oyster Restaurant in Boston's North End

2008-03-09 18:00:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Flour Bakery and Cafe came up as a convenient spot during my search for a breakfast restaurant near the Boston Convention Center. It had good reviews online and it seemed like it would be walking distance from the center. My hotel was close to MBTA's (Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority) Red Line. To get to Flour Bakery on the day of the visit, I transferred to the Silver Line at South Station and exited at the Courthouse Station. I knew the address but still could not orient myself. A nice gentleman pointed me in the direction of Farnsworth Street where Flour is located. There is a very simple sign on the building announcing this eatery and it is easy to miss, though since I did not miss it I am pretty sure you would not either.Rate and Review : Breakfast at the Flour Bakery and Cafe on Farnsworth Street, Fort Point , South Boston

2008-03-08 19:00:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: As we drove North on La Cienega Blvd after running errands in the neighborhood, we started searching out for a place to grab a quick bite to eat. The stretch of La Cienega South of Melrose is interesting because it boasts some of the most exclusive shops and restaurants in LA but also a strip joint and several other less wholesome businesses, so to speak. Real Food Daily Restaurant appeared on our right side, and after a hesitation of few seconds, we made or decision, turned around, found a metered parking spot and were ready to eat. It was just past one o'clock in the afternoon and it was packed. Luckily for us, the wait for a table for two was only a few minutes. We stood in the entrance area waiting for our table. This was next to a bar where a few patrons also chose to sit. Behind the bar, we could observe food preparation and the coffee baristas doing their magic.Rate and Review : Lunch at Real Food Daily Organic Vegan Restaurant on La Ciene...

SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Yesterday morning my last full day in Niagara Falls , Ontario, had arrived. Dinner at Coco Noche Chocolate and Wine Restaurant in Manhattan Beach, Cali
2008-02-27 21:46:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Ever since Coco Noche opened in Manhattan Beach , it has drawn steady crowds. At least, whenever we would pass by this restaurant, it would always be full and visitors would even be standing outside waiting for a table. That is why we were a bit surprised when we were able to book reservations with the eatery for four guests at seven o'clock on a Saturday evening. Reservations were made on that same Saturday afternoon using the handy online reservation system found at their web site. We drove into town and noticed it quite deserted. It was a cold and rainy day and we attributed the Manhattan Beach downtown emptiness to that factor. Usually it is full of people on weekend nights.Rate and Review : Dinner at Coco Noche Chocolate and Wine Restaurant in Manhattan Beach, California

SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Whitney Museum of American Art was on our list of cultural institutions to visit during our most recent New York visit. I was most eager to see their collection of American art. As we approached the building we were surprised by its architecture. The main building was a square, gray concrete, ultra modern structure with a few unusually shaped small windows. I was not sure if I liked it. Actually, I was sure I did not like it. We entered the main lobby just as the museum opened that day. This made purchasing the tickets (fifteen dollars) quite easy. SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: I must have driven past Dinah's a million times wondering what it would be like to actually eat there. From the outside, the restaurant looks like a very old fashioned diner. It has a notable, fifties style, sign, a large bucket on a very tall post advertising the chicken and an unusual shape which was probably meant to attract attention. Well, it does. All of these things make it a landmark in this part of town. I do not know what exactly got into us to visit Dinah's but once we made our decision there was no turning back. Streets around the restaurant are quite busy so be careful turning into the parking lot. The lot is shared by other business in this mini mall. Police are very vigilant here and you can spot them issuing tickets on a daily basis. Be warned.Rate and Review : Fried Chicken Lunch at Dinah's Family Restaurant on Sepulveda in Los Angeles, CA

SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: The Los Angeles Times Travel Show was held this past weekend at the Long Beach Convention Center. This was to be my first visit to this event and I was excited to learn what it was all about. The exhibitor list included official tourism offices and boards of many cities, regions and countries , travel agents, a few travel product manufacturers, tour operators and more. It would be a good opportunity to learn what this year's cool destinations are, find some good deals and chat with like minded visitors. I drove into the parking lot of the convention center around noon on Sunday, February 10th and headed towards the entrance. It was a ten minute walk to the main gate. Shuttles were also provided for those that were not in walking mood.
