Lunch at Bistro Du Soleil French Restaurant in Playa Del Rey, California
2007-12-29 15:00:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Bistro Du Soleil is one of our standard lunch spots. We visit this French bistro every few months and always come out satisfied. As you might suspect from our return visits we do like the food here. Its location is a bit unusual, at the sharp corner of Vista Del Mar Lane and the much larger Vista Del Mar Street. Busy Vista Del Mar runs just underneath the dining room but the sound insulation is solid and the inside of the restaurant is not loud at all. Parking is available right above the restaurant. There are only a few spots here. You might have to park on the street. If you do not mind walking a few hundred yards, you are guaranteed a parking spot at the Del Rey Lagoon Park near Convoy and Esplanade.Rate and Review : Lunch at Bistro Du Soleil French Restaurant in Playa Del Rey, California

2007-12-28 20:22:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: One of our signature stops while visiting New York is the The Museum of Modern Art. It never ceases to amaze us with its exhibitions, architecture and the overall experience. Museum touring can be tiring as well. After a few hours of complete focus on art we tend to get quite tired, our feet start to ache and we seek out a resting place. Terrace 5 proved to provide just that during our December visit. The holiday crowds had not yet started to overwhelm this museum and the waiting line to dine at this cafe was not long at all. On previous visits we were discouraged by, what seemed like, hundreds of anxious patrons patiently waiting in line to experience Terrace 5. Just ten minutes after we approached the cafe, we were escorted to a nice window table.Rate and Review : Lunch at Terrace 5 (The Carroll and Milton Petrie Cafe ) at the MOMA in New York City
Breakfast at Sarabeth's Restaurant, Upper East Side in Manhattan, NYC
2007-12-27 21:30:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: We were looking forward to our visit to the Whitney Museum of American Art on this chilly Friday in December. Prior to this activity, we needed to grab a bite to eat. Breakfast is our favorite meal of the day. Our hotel concierge put together a list of worthwhile breakfast destinations on the Upper East Side. A quick taxi ride brought us initially to Cafe Sabarsky at the Neue Gallerie. They stopped serving breakfast at 11am and we were really in the mood for some eggs and pancakes. A few blocks away was Sarabeth's so we mosied down to its location on Madison and 92nd. The outside of the restaurant was really cute. Located in an older building, the well kept exterior with wooden doors and maroon awnings appeared cozy and very inviting.Rate and Review : Breakfast at Sarabeth's Restaurant , Upper East Side in Manhattan , NYC
Dinner at The Pastaria & Market Italian Restaurant in Los Gatos, Calif
2007-12-14 19:43:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Every time we visit Los Gatos we are impressed by its small downtown area. Locals and visitors stroll up and down Santa Cruz Avenue, shop, have coffee, meet their neighbors and have jolly ole time. We decided to do just that with our friends who live not too far from this main thoroughfare. Christmas season was in full swing and festive decorations were blanketing the town. It was slightly chilly, but pleasant for walking around. Our friends were taking us to one of their favorite eateries, Pastaria & Market Italian Restaurant on Main Street. Reservations for this Friday evening were made in advance. This is recommended since the dining area is not very large and was completely full all night.Rate and Review : Dinner at The Pastaria & Market Italian Restaurant in Los Gatos, California
Hello from Mexico City: Exploring the Paseo de la Reforma and el Bosque de
2007-12-13 23:53:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: This morning another wonderful Mexican breakfast was in store: Vanessa had made "tlacoyos con nopales" (fried dough covered with fruits of the prickley pear cactus and melted cheese on top) which I really enjoyed. Around 9:30 we got going and Vanessa's sister dropped us off, right in front of the Angel de la Independencia, a monument erected in 1910 to commemorate independence from Spain, on the Paseo de la Reforma. The Paseo de la Reforma is an almost 4 km long tree-lined boulevard, connecting the center of the city with the Bosque de Chapultepec. Various monuments adorn its glorietas, or traffic circles, and we had already seen one of the monuments, the Caballito, yesterday. Right next to the Angel de la Independencia, an officer of the tourist police stopped us and asked us where we were going and if he could be of help. He was a very charming young man and pulled a laminated map out of his security jacket and pointed out all the major sights i...

Sunday Brunch at Venus Restaurant in Berkeley, California
2007-12-12 07:32:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Shattuck Avenue was quite calm this last Sunday morning. You could spot people here and there as they went about their early day activities. We walked around the neighborhood waiting for our friends to arrive by BART from San Francisco. Parking is free on Sundays at meters in the area and it was plentiful as well near the Durant Avenue intersection where the eatery is located. We made sure to put our name on the waiting list at Venus Restaurant because we did not have reservations and it was very crowded inside. After our friends arrived we had to wait another fifteen minutes . Another party failed to show up on time making our seating that much quicker.Rate and Review : Sunday Brunch at Venus Restaurant in Berkeley , California
Dinner at The Harris Ranch Kitchen Restaurant Next to the 5 Freeway in Coal
2007-12-10 08:40:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Our search for a solid restaurant on the 5 freeway between Los Angeles and San Francisco continued last weekend. We were visiting family in the Bay Area and on our way back to LA we kept our eyes open for a place to stop and grab a bite to eat. We had noticed the Harris Ranch signs on multiple occasions but never thought of stopping there, until this night. It was a chilly Sunday in December and the clock just signaled five in the evening. The large parking lot was packed at the Harris Ranch.Rate and Review : Dinner at The Harris Ranch Kitchen Restaurant Next to the 5 Freeway in Coal inga, CA
Walking the 804 Trail in Yachats, Oregon - also known as the Yachats Smelt
2007-12-05 20:40:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: During our stay in Yachats, nature walks were our main pastime. This part of Oregon certainly does not lack in such activities. The most convenient of them stretched out right in front of our hotel. We were staying at the Overleaf Lodge and upon arrival inquired about nearby trails. The friendly staff recommended the 804 Trail also known as The Yachats Smelt Trail. To start our trek, we just exited the hotel towards to ocean and we were right on it. Couldn't be any simpler. For those that are just passing by or visiting it for a day, there is free parking at the Smelt Sands State Recreation Site at Sunset Road and the 101.Technorati ProfileRate and Review : Walking the 804 Trail in Yachats, Oregon - also known as the Yachats Smelt Trail

2007-11-30 19:00:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Inspired from my cave adventure yesterday, I met my friends Andrea and Herbert early this morning to go on a hike through the Raabklamm (Raab River Gorge), which is surrounded by limestone mountains that hold more than 700 caves, including the famous Katerloch and the Grasshohle, two publicly accessible caves and major tourist attractions in the Weiz area. Again, we drove through the rolling hills of Gottelsberg, Haselbach, Leska and Durntal to park our car near an entrance point of the Raab Gorge. Andrea had given me a couple of Nordic Walking poles which I was about to try out for the first time. Nordic Walking, also referred to as "pole walking" or "fitness walking" is a sport that consists of walking with modified ski poles. Originally popular in Finland and Scandinavia, Nordic Walking has become extremely popular throughout Europe, although it hasn't quite caught on yet in North America.Rate and Review : Hello from Austria - A Hike through th...

Strolling Through Columbia State Historic Park in California's Sierra
2007-11-27 18:50:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: We learned of the Columbia State Historic Park while visiting Sonora and attending a friend's theater play there. She was part of a visiting troop from Los Angeles and being the friends that we are we drove up from Southern California to see her. Well, we also stopped by Yosemite and a whole slew of other cool places along the way. In Sonora, friendly visitors center folk recommended Columbia as a nice day trip. They provided us with maps, instructions, a bit of history and then bid us farewell. It was a brief ten mile car ride (or so) before we noticed signs pointing out Columbia. We parked at Broadway and Fulton, one of the several parking locations we noted and proceeded to explore this park ...Rate and Review : Strolling Through Columbia State Historic Park in California's Sierra Nevada

Hiking in the Palm Grove Canyon in the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, Cali
2007-11-22 21:29:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: A weekend long excursion brought us earlier this year from Los Angeles to the Anza-Borrego Desert, located, generally speaking, between San Diego and Palm Springs. We booked a room in Borrego Springs, a small desert community that is completely surrounded by the state park. We would drive around the region, take in the sights and take the well known Palm Canyon hike. The hike was one of the activities we were looking forward to the most and, as it would prove later, it was the highlight of the visit. On the day of the hike, we drove to the Visitors Center parking lot, educated ourselves about the region, received good instructions from the rangers, and finally set off on our adventure.Rate and Review : Hiking in the Palm Grove Canyon in the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park , Cali fornia

Lunch at the Gaucho Grill on San Vicente in Brentwood, CA

SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: I stopped by the Gaucho Grill for lunch today. There was plenty of time before my two o'clock meeting I had scheduled earlier so I decided to walk around Brentwood and randomly pick a place to eat. Walking down San Vicente on a nice Southern California day is a most welcome activity. All restaurants have their patios set up and lunch goers flock to them. Gaucho Grill caught my attention from the sidewalk. I walked in to read the menu and did not leave. The inside space was not crowded and there were a few window seats available. I asked the server if I could get one of those, she confirmed, smiled and welcomed me to the restaurant.Rate and Review : Lunch at the Gaucho Grill on San Vicente in Brentwood, CA

Richmond, Virginia - A City of Monuments

Once the Capital of the Confederacy, Richmond quickly shifted to become the home of black capitalism during Reconstruction, and today hosts several Fortune 500 companies.

Lunch at Truxton's American Bistro in Westchester, California near LAX
2007-11-14 21:10:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Truxton's Restaurant is not located on a major street and I am not sure that you would notice it just by driving down nearby Manchester Blvd. I found out about it online by looking for new lunch places in the vicinity of LAX. Several sites had mentioned it as a solid choice and we decided to mosey on down and try it for ourselves. It has been opened for more than a year now. Parking was plentiful behind the restaurant. When we walked in just past one o'clock in the afternoon we were surprised that it was completely full. Instead of waiting ten minutes for a dining seat, we decided to sit at one other bar tables and not wait at all. It appears as though it is not hard to find Truxton's at all. It was packed.Rate and Review : Lunch at Truxton's American Bistro in Westchester , California near LAX

For Prince Edward Island, Ecotourism Presents Old World In A New Light
2007-11-08 14:00:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Ecotourism or ecological tourism is a trend towards preservation that has in recent years taken on global proportions. It's a relatively recent form of tourism typified by being both socially and ecologically conscious, according to Wikipedia. Focusing on many factors including regional plant and wildlife, and native culture, ecotourism is a growing trend. This new form of travel seeks to protect, inform and educate as much as it does to profile or display. For example: in most countries, it is illegal to remove "found" treasures of ancient civilizations such as Egypt, Greece or the Roman Empire. In other instances, the protection of underwater habitats is promoted so that coral is not removed (or in some cases, not even stepped upon).

We were fortunate that one of our first options, Petros Restaurant , was open until 11pm on this evening. SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Cape Perpetua Scenic Area was advertised everywhere as a must see spot on Oregon 's Pacific Coast. That left us no other option but to visit it and explore its wonders. We were staying in Yachats just a few miles North of the park. On this day we would explore the Heceta Head area, check out some sea lions and explore Cape Perpetua. Tourist maps that we obtained at the Cape Perpetua Visit or Center provided plenty of information. The visitors center is quite interesting with some outstanding views of the area. Parking is available here for those that plan to sightsee in this vicinity. Friendly park rangers were at hand to point out itineraries for everyone's time allotment and difficulty level. We went for the easy and quick options. The Cape Perpetua Visitor Center is a great starting point when exploring the park.Rate and Review : Brief Visit to the Cape Perpetua Scenic Area in Oregon
