Strolling Through Columbia State Historic Park in California's Sierra
2007-11-27 18:50:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: We learned of the Columbia State Historic Park while visiting Sonora and attending a friend's theater play there. She was part of a visiting troop from Los Angeles and being the friends that we are we drove up from Southern California to see her. Well, we also stopped by Yosemite and a whole slew of other cool places along the way. In Sonora, friendly visitors center folk recommended Columbia as a nice day trip. They provided us with maps, instructions, a bit of history and then bid us farewell. It was a brief ten mile car ride (or so) before we noticed signs pointing out Columbia. We parked at Broadway and Fulton, one of the several parking locations we noted and proceeded to explore this park ...Rate and Review : Strolling Through Columbia State Historic Park in California's Sierra Nevada

Hiking in the Palm Grove Canyon in the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, Cali
2007-11-22 21:29:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: A weekend long excursion brought us earlier this year from Los Angeles to the Anza-Borrego Desert, located, generally speaking, between San Diego and Palm Springs. We booked a room in Borrego Springs, a small desert community that is completely surrounded by the state park. We would drive around the region, take in the sights and take the well known Palm Canyon hike. The hike was one of the activities we were looking forward to the most and, as it would prove later, it was the highlight of the visit. On the day of the hike, we drove to the Visitors Center parking lot, educated ourselves about the region, received good instructions from the rangers, and finally set off on our adventure.Rate and Review : Hiking in the Palm Grove Canyon in the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park , Cali fornia

Dinner at Fraiche Restaurant in Culver City, California
2007-11-18 15:00:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Fraiche is one of the restaurants that have put Culver City on the culinary map of LA. In just several years, the downtown area of Culver City has undergone an impressive renaissance. Trendy restaurants and shops line the main thoroughfares and new architecturally bold structures abound. Whoever planned this strategy for the city did a splendid job. We wanted to visit Fraiche Restaurant on several occasions but we could not get reservations. It was always full. On this Tuesday evening we could not get them again, but decided to try in person and if not, eat elsewhere ...Rate and Review : Dinner at Fraiche Restaurant in Culver City, Calif ornia
Lunch at the Gaucho Grill on San Vicente in Brentwood, CA
2007-11-17 21:10:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: I stopped by the Gaucho Grill for lunch today. There was plenty of time before my two o'clock meeting I had scheduled earlier so I decided to walk around Brentwood and randomly pick a place to eat. Walking down San Vicente on a nice Southern California day is a most welcome activity. All restaurants have their patios set up and lunch goers flock to them. Gaucho Grill caught my attention from the sidewalk. I walked in to read the menu and did not leave. The inside space was not crowded and there were a few window seats available. I asked the server if I could get one of those, she confirmed, smiled and welcomed me to the restaurant.Rate and Review : Lunch at the Gaucho Grill on San Vicente in Brentwood, CA

Richmond, Virginia - A City of Monuments
2007-11-16 14:00:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Richmond is a city of monuments that's become something of a monument itself to America's New South, where historic buildings and world class museums nestle next to new structures designed to harmonize with the past even as they define the future. Once the Capital of the Confederacy, Richmond quickly shifted to become the home of black capitalism during Reconstruction, and today hosts several Fortune 500 companies.

Lunch at Truxton's American Bistro in Westchester, California near LAX
2007-11-14 21:10:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Truxton's Restaurant is not located on a major street and I am not sure that you would notice it just by driving down nearby Manchester Blvd. I found out about it online by looking for new lunch places in the vicinity of LAX. Several sites had mentioned it as a solid choice and we decided to mosey on down and try it for ourselves. It has been opened for more than a year now. Parking was plentiful behind the restaurant. When we walked in just past one o'clock in the afternoon we were surprised that it was completely full. Instead of waiting ten minutes for a dining seat, we decided to sit at one other bar tables and not wait at all. It appears as though it is not hard to find Truxton's at all. It was packed.Rate and Review : Lunch at Truxton's American Bistro in Westchester , California near LAX

SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Knowing that we are true connoisseurs of botanical gardens, our family members insisted that we spend some time at the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens during our Sarasota visit. This nine and a half acre garden has 20,000 living plants on display is a favorite Sarasota attraction. It was not hard to convince us to do just that. It made for a wonderful family event. Everyone was able to fit into one van and the excursion was ready. For Prince Edward Island, Ecotourism Presents Old World In A New Light
2007-11-08 14:00:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Ecotourism or ecological tourism is a trend towards preservation that has in recent years taken on global proportions. It's a relatively recent form of tourism typified by being both socially and ecologically conscious, according to Wikipedia. Focusing on many factors including regional plant and wildlife, and native culture, ecotourism is a growing trend. This new form of travel seeks to protect, inform and educate as much as it does to profile or display. For example: in most countries, it is illegal to remove "found" treasures of ancient civilizations such as Egypt, Greece or the Roman Empire. In other instances, the protection of underwater habitats is promoted so that coral is not removed (or in some cases, not even stepped upon).

Monday Night Dinner at Petros Restaurant in Manhattan Beach, CA

SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Monday nights are often not the best times for dining out. Many restaurants are closed and it is rather quiet everywhere else. A family member was visiting us from the East Coast last Monday evening (of all nights) and we wanted to take him out to a nice restaurant where we could talk, eat and have a jolly time. We were fortunate that one of our first options, Petros Restaurant , was open until 11pm on this evening. We had not been to this eatery before and were eager to try it, having walked by it so many times. Reservations were made and everything was set perfectly. Brief Visit to the Cape Perpetua Scenic Area in Oregon
2007-11-05 20:24:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Cape Perpetua Scenic Area was advertised everywhere as a must see spot on Oregon 's Pacific Coast. That left us no other option but to visit it and explore its wonders. We were staying in Yachats just a few miles North of the park. On this day we would explore the Heceta Head area, check out some sea lions and explore Cape Perpetua. Tourist maps that we obtained at the Cape Perpetua Visit or Center provided plenty of information. The visitors center is quite interesting with some outstanding views of the area. Parking is available here for those that plan to sightsee in this vicinity. Friendly park rangers were at hand to point out itineraries for everyone's time allotment and difficulty level. We went for the easy and quick options. The Cape Perpetua Visitor Center is a great starting point when exploring the park.Rate and Review : Brief Visit to the Cape Perpetua Scenic Area in Oregon

West Hollywood Halloween Costume Carnaval, The Largest Adult Outdoor Hallow

The City of West Hollywood calls the Costume Carnaval the largest adult outdoor Halloween event in the world. Santa Monica Boulevard, one of the busies streets in Los Angeles, is converted into a pedestrian only zone between Doheny and La Cienega Boulevards. This one mile stretch of road gets packed by over three hundred thousand partiers each year. The event is not advertised as much in Southern California when compared to many smaller events. Story About the Kinetic Light Installation (LAX Gateway Pylon Project) at t
2007-10-20 14:00:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: If you have been to the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) in the past several years, you might have noticed a series of tall semi transparent tubes positioned around the LAX entrance and along Century Boulevard. The project, titled "Untitled", is a Kinetic Light Installation. It was created in the year 2000 (and updated in 2006). Some also call it the "LAX Gateway Pylon Project " which really does not do it for me. The viewing experience is most impressive when they are illuminated and, of course, most spectacular at night. The color changes periodically inside the tubes creating a most unusual spectacle of hues. There has been an array of stories praising and condemning this installation since its inception. I personally think it is wonderful. It gives a bit of splendor to the otherwise plain surrounding area.

Dinner at Pizzicotto Italian Cafe and Market in Brentwood

SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Pizzicotto was our dinner restaurant of choice last Friday evening. We were meeting a good friend and its location in Brentwood was convenient for everyone. Reservations were made early in the afternoon. The restaurant is not very big so if you want to be assured a table on busy evenings, reservations are recommended. Neither of us in the party visited this eatery before. We did not realize that parking would be a problem. It took as a few circles around the block before a street spot appeared. Lunch at the North End Cafe in Manhattan Beach, California

SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: North End Cafe has been receiving good reviews online lately. Only today did I get a chance to try it out for myself. I called in advance and inquired about the wait and the hours. They are open from eight in the morning until three in the afternoon and that was convenient. They could not guarantee a prompt seat but since we were heading out after one o'clock we hoped that the lunch crowd would have seceded by then. Parking is always a challenge in the El Porto area of Manhattan Beach . I always recommend the public metered structure at the corner of Rosecrans and Highland where it is still possible to park thirty minutes for one quarter.Rate and Review : Lunch at the North End Cafe in Manhattan Beach, California
Prince Edward Island Lighthouses: Light the Way Home
2007-10-11 14:00:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: As a coastal community the lighthouses of Prince Edward Island not only served the practical purpose of lighting the way home before the era of GPS navigation, they now offer a unique opportunity to those who visit. Prince Edward Island offers a variety of lighthouse tours ranging from the scenic to the informative. As most are aware, lighthouses served as a navigational aid for sailors and the ships they captained. Light houses are towers that are positioned on sea shores, or even sometimes in harbours. They use a series of lamps and lenses to help guide navigating vessels on the high seas. Lighthouses are used to mark dangerous coastlines, steer ships away from hazards, mark safe entry points into harbours and assist in aerial navigation. With that in mind it is important to note how important lighthouses were to trade and commerce throughout human history.

Touring the Newport Mansions in Newport, Rhode Island
2007-10-06 01:43:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Newport , Rhode Island 's mansions are definitely one of this area's main attractions. I was not too curios in visiting them before our trip but was outvoted when activities were being planned. As I would later learn, it was a most interesting encounter. On the day of our tours we walked from the waterfront in town, where our hotel was, towards Bellevue Avenue. It was a fifteen minute pleasant walk. Bellevue Avenue is the center of mansion activities in Newport. Biggest, most lavish, oldest and most famous palatial estates line this street. For the past several hundred years, this region has attracted the most wealthy individuals in the US to compete in building the most extravagant summer "cottages". They did quite the job.Rate and Review : Touring the Newport Mans ions in Newport, Rhode Island
