Visiting the Sand Dunes Near Florence, Central Pacific Coast of Oregon
2007-10-02 21:06:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: The Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area was mentioned in every guide book we read about Oregon. Photos of endless sand dunes, similar to vast desert-scapes definitely tickled our imagination. We decided to visit a few notable areas on our drive up Oregon's Pacific Coast. Oregon Dunes Overlook and the Driftwood II OHV Campground and Dunes. We were heading North on Highway 101. Approximately ten miles North of Reedsport clear signs marked the parking area for our first destination.rate and Review : Visiting the Sand Dunes Near Florence , Central Pacific Coast of Oregon
The Finer Things in Life : Friday Evening Jazz Performances at the Los Ange
2007-09-28 21:23:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Friday Evening Jazz Performances at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art are one of my favorite weekly events in Los Angeles. I usually attend several of these concerts during the season. The shows are put on by LACMA's Music Department each year from April to November. The last performance this year will be held on November 23rd, therefore there is plenty of time to catch a show in 2007. Museum admission is free after five in the evenings. This makes for a most wonderful combination of music and art and all for no charge. For some Friday evening intellectual fun, and as a most elegant date spot, LACMA delivers ...

Breakfast at the Little Next Door restaurant on Third Street in Los Angeles
2007-09-24 18:34:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: This past Saturday we had a few engagements in the West Hollywood / Los Angeles area and decided to seek out a good breakfast spot not too far from there. Third Street is the home to some of LA's coolest eateries so we drove down this particular street with our eyes open checking out which restaurants were popular at this time of day (10am). Little Next Door appeared to be quite favored. We had eaten at the Little Door before and liked it. A parking spot nearby opened up making our decision that much easier. Parking can be an issue around here and you might have to drive around a bit to find an open spot.Rate and Review : Breakfast at the Little Next Door restaurant on Third Street in Los Angeles, CA

Enjoying the Ocean Trails Public Walks on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, Calif
2007-09-18 20:07:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: If there is one good thing (probably the only good thing) that resulted from the opening of the Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes, it is the fact that they were mandated by the city to create a public free space for everyone to enjoy. The Ocean Trails offer visitors a chance to enjoy the Southern California coastline in all its glory. I have been hooked on this particular area for about a year now. This gem lies practically in the middle of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. Well maintained trails, sparsely populated beaches, stunning cliffs and vistas of the Pacific Ocean as far as the eye can see. Newport Harbor Boat Cruise Aboard the RumRummer II
2007-09-14 04:41:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: No tourist visit to Newport , Rhode Island would be complete without a boat tour. Newport is, after all, located on an island and so much of its allure is a result of its vicinity and association with the Atlantic Ocean. While walking around one of the touristy wharfs (Bannister Wharf) in town we noticed signs for various boat excursions. RumRunner II boat staff seemed nice. They answered all of our questions politely and were witty at the same time. It would be a seventy five minute tour of the harbor with some spiked fruit punch. The price of around twenty five dollars per person was acceptable so we made reservations the next day for the 5.30 pm cruise.Rate and Review : Newport Harbor Boat Cruise Aboard the RumRummer II

SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Prior to attending a play at the renown Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland we wanted to start off the evening with a nice meal. This night of our Oregon vacation was designated for a fancy dinner. Amuse Restaurant on First Street appeared fancy enough online. It also had some good reviews so we decided to make reservations. This was done a week in advance just to make sure that on this Saturday evening everything goes as planned. When the day of our Ashland adventure arrived we drove into town in our shiny Pontiac rental. We parked at one of the public parking areas on Hargadine Street. It was an unusually hot May day but we decided anyways to take a stroll through town. Group Dinner at the The Palms Restaurant in Carpinteria, California
2007-09-08 09:28:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Several friends of ours recommended for a group dinner, that we would have with all of our camping buddies, to be held at the The Palms Restaurant . It was very close to our campground and a promise of good steaks sealed the deal. We learned that we would have to grill our own meats. Never having done this before I found this novel idea quite interesting. Nine of us headed to The Palms on a Sunday evening during the Labor Day weekend. The wait was just over an hour. We had nowhere else to go so we put our name down on the list and headed to the restaurant bar.Rate and Review : Group Dinner at the The Palms Restaurant in Carpinteria, California
Labor Day Weekend Camping at the Carpinteria State Beach, California
2007-09-07 01:38:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: We were thrilled this year when a friend of ours informed us that he was able to reserve a few camping spots during the Labor Day weekend in Carpinteria. The camp was in a premiere location at the Carpinteria the State Beach . One needs to plan this months in advance. Reservations need to be made early because spots during popular holidays get taken up as soon as they are available. We packed up camping gear, loaded the car with food, games, music and a ton of stuff we didn't need and headed out from Los Angeles. On this Friday afternoon before the vacation weekend traffic was surprisingly light and we made it to our destination in solid time. Once in Carpinteria it was not hard to find the campground. Just follow the signs to the state beach and you will be all right. After paying the $8 per day parking fee we went looking for our site.Rate and Review : Labor Day Weekend Camping at the Carpinteria State Beach, California

Prices were right and the location was convenient so we decided to reserve a table on this Sunday. We would arrive at six thirty in the evening for dinner before the big show. SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Laguna Beach Pageant of the Masters show is one of the most unique art performances you can attend in Southern California, or anywhere for that matter. Each summer, during the months of July and August, the Pageant puts together a ninety minute program depicting recreations of well known art pieces from around the world. These recreations are put together with real people posing in the art frames. Using sophisticated lighting, painting techniques, various props and what not they create unbelievably accurate representations of the pieces. The show has a seventy five year history and it just keeps on getting more and more popular. You have to get tickets almost as soon as they are released if you would like to attend. 2007-08-28 06:30:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: In the past few years, restaurant research has moved almost entirely online. A multitude of web sites have sprung up claiming to be "the" destination that will provide the best and most unbiased review of a dining establishment. Site editorial reviews have been scaled back and they mostly constitute a vanilla description of the eatery. The users are in charge now. Anyone can create an account at a specific site, most with just a valid e-mail, and start reviewing. As with many other online research undertakings, once you start searching you are engulfed in a gluttony of information. Encountering 2240000 results for a search term like "romantic dinner los angeles" would make anyone wonder about the validity and relevance. SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Walking around Newport 's waterfront was our favorite activity during our stay. Every morning and every evening we would stroll through the downtown area and almost always explore the accessible wharfs. Bannister Wharf is made for accessibility. Tourists flock here to shop, eat, take a cruise, walk around and feel like they are on a summer vacation. On one such occasion we had lunch at the Black Pearl Waterside Patio & Bar. You cannot miss it. It is one of the prominent outside dining areas on the Bannister Wharf. We arrived there just after noon. There were plenty of tables available on this summer weekday. Our goal was to be under one of the patio umbrellas. We did not know much about the restaurant or its location, we just followed our hosts through the town of Newport and on to the South-West most corner of the island. When we turned into the Castle Hill Inn & Resort driveway our destination was clear. Upon arriving at the main building's entrance the vallets whisked our cars away and we proceeded inside. Reservations were made well in advance. The hosts welcomed us and showed our seven person party into the Sunset Room . The O regon Shakespeare Festival was the main event this region is known for. Quick Stop at The Divine Swine B.T. Lane's Barbecue in Griswold, CT
2007-08-16 22:19:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: We had not left much time for the drive from Newport, RI to Hartford's Bradley International Airport (BDL) on the tail end of our July visit to this area. Google Maps suggested that we take the 138 West across most of Rhode Island. We did not realize that this road went through populated areas and that the speed limit did not exceed 35 miles per hour for the majority of the drive. This meant that we would not be able to sit down and eat anywhere. Our goal was not to eat at the airport. We looked at many roadside restaurants and diners and none really looked appealing enough to stop. Finally, right before getting on the 395, we whizzed by B.T. Lane s Barbecue . It looked good so we turned our car around at the closest safe crossroad and drove back to this barbecue restaurant. We were in Griswold, Connecticut and hungry.Rate and Review : Quick Stop at The Divine Swine B.T. Lane's Barbecue in Griswold, CT

SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: This Friday morning the chirping tropical birds in the courtyard outside the building woke me up early. Vanessa had fixed a real Mexican breakfast: fruit - melon and papaya, with yoghurt and sweat bread. Appropriately strengthened we got going early at 8:45 to start exploring Mexicy City . Our explorations started with a ride on a public bus on the Eje Central, one of the main streets of Mexico City. It took us straight to "La Torre Latinoamericana", Mexico's famous 44-story skyscraper. Completed in 1956, this skyscraper has survived a number of earthquakes, most notably the big earthquake of 1985 which destroyed big sections of Mexico City . From the cafeteria on the 42nd floor we had a great 360 degree view over the city, although the smoggy atmosphere impeded our visibility.Rate and Review : Hello from Mexico City - A Compact Day of Discovery of Downtown
