Story About the Kinetic Light Installation (LAX Gateway Pylon Project) at t
2007-10-20 14:00:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: If you have been to the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) in the past several years, you might have noticed a series of tall semi transparent tubes positioned around the LAX entrance and along Century Boulevard. The project, titled "Untitled", is a Kinetic Light Installation. It was created in the year 2000 (and updated in 2006). Some also call it the "LAX Gateway Pylon Project " which really does not do it for me. The viewing experience is most impressive when they are illuminated and, of course, most spectacular at night. The color changes periodically inside the tubes creating a most unusual spectacle of hues. There has been an array of stories praising and condemning this installation since its inception. I personally think it is wonderful. It gives a bit of splendor to the otherwise plain surrounding area.

Dinner at Pizzicotto Italian Cafe and Market in Brentwood
2007-10-14 08:02:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Pizzicotto was our dinner restaurant of choice last Friday evening. We were meeting a good friend and its location in Brentwood was convenient for everyone. Reservations were made early in the afternoon. The restaurant is not very big so if you want to be assured a table on busy evenings, reservations are recommended. Neither of us in the party visited this eatery before. We did not realize that parking would be a problem. It took as a few circles around the block before a street spot appeared. Our friend was more tardy than usual since he could not find a spot either ....Rate and Review : Dinner at Pizzicotto Italian Cafe and Market in Brentwood
Lunch at the North End Cafe in Manhattan Beach, California
2007-10-13 14:00:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: North End Cafe has been receiving good reviews online lately. Only today did I get a chance to try it out for myself. I called in advance and inquired about the wait and the hours. They are open from eight in the morning until three in the afternoon and that was convenient. They could not guarantee a prompt seat but since we were heading out after one o'clock we hoped that the lunch crowd would have seceded by then. Parking is always a challenge in the El Porto area of Manhattan Beach . I always recommend the public metered structure at the corner of Rosecrans and Highland where it is still possible to park thirty minutes for one quarter.Rate and Review : Lunch at the North End Cafe in Manhattan Beach, California
Prince Edward Island Lighthouses: Light the Way Home
2007-10-11 14:00:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: As a coastal community the lighthouses of Prince Edward Island not only served the practical purpose of lighting the way home before the era of GPS navigation, they now offer a unique opportunity to those who visit. Prince Edward Island offers a variety of lighthouse tours ranging from the scenic to the informative. As most are aware, lighthouses served as a navigational aid for sailors and the ships they captained. Light houses are towers that are positioned on sea shores, or even sometimes in harbours. They use a series of lamps and lenses to help guide navigating vessels on the high seas. Lighthouses are used to mark dangerous coastlines, steer ships away from hazards, mark safe entry points into harbours and assist in aerial navigation. With that in mind it is important to note how important lighthouses were to trade and commerce throughout human history.

SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: After a beautiful breakfast in the garden at Roxana's place with Helga, the young lab with shiniest black coat, dancing all around me, I went to my private tutoring session at the Ideal Language School where my teacher Estela and I talked at length about various dental procedures, funny doctor stories, and stories of unexplainable events and psychic happenings. We also touched on the topic of personal security, and that a number of years ago there were quite a few kidnappings and robberies of buses. Touring the Newport Mansions in Newport, Rhode Island
2007-10-06 01:43:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Newport , Rhode Island 's mansions are definitely one of this area's main attractions. I was not too curios in visiting them before our trip but was outvoted when activities were being planned. As I would later learn, it was a most interesting encounter. On the day of our tours we walked from the waterfront in town, where our hotel was, towards Bellevue Avenue. It was a fifteen minute pleasant walk. Bellevue Avenue is the center of mansion activities in Newport. Biggest, most lavish, oldest and most famous palatial estates line this street. For the past several hundred years, this region has attracted the most wealthy individuals in the US to compete in building the most extravagant summer "cottages". They did quite the job.Rate and Review : Touring the Newport Mans ions in Newport, Rhode Island

2007-09-28 21:23:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Friday Evening Jazz Performances at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art are one of my favorite weekly events in Los Angeles. I usually attend several of these concerts during the season. The shows are put on by LACMA's Music Department each year from April to November. The last performance this year will be held on November 23rd, therefore there is plenty of time to catch a show in 2007. Museum admission is free after five in the evenings. This makes for a most wonderful combination of music and art and all for no charge. For some Friday evening intellectual fun, and as a most elegant date spot, LACMA delivers ...

Breakfast at the Little Next Door restaurant on Third Street in Los Angeles

SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: This past Saturday we had a few engagements in the West Hollywood / Los Angeles area and decided to seek out a good breakfast spot not too far from there. Third Street is the home to some of LA's coolest eateries so we drove down this particular street with our eyes open checking out which restaurants were popular at this time of day (10am). Little Next Door appeared to be quite favored. We had eaten at the Little Door before and liked it. A parking spot nearby opened up making our decision that much easier. Newport Harbor Boat Cruise Aboard the RumRummer II
2007-09-14 04:41:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: No tourist visit to Newport , Rhode Island would be complete without a boat tour. Newport is, after all, located on an island and so much of its allure is a result of its vicinity and association with the Atlantic Ocean. While walking around one of the touristy wharfs (Bannister Wharf) in town we noticed signs for various boat excursions. RumRunner II boat staff seemed nice. They answered all of our questions politely and were witty at the same time. It would be a seventy five minute tour of the harbor with some spiked fruit punch. The price of around twenty five dollars per person was acceptable so we made reservations the next day for the 5.30 pm cruise.Rate and Review : Newport Harbor Boat Cruise Aboard the RumRummer II

Group Dinner at the The Palms Restaurant in Carpinteria, California
2007-09-08 09:28:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Several friends of ours recommended for a group dinner, that we would have with all of our camping buddies, to be held at the The Palms Restaurant . It was very close to our campground and a promise of good steaks sealed the deal. We learned that we would have to grill our own meats. Never having done this before I found this novel idea quite interesting. Nine of us headed to The Palms on a Sunday evening during the Labor Day weekend. The wait was just over an hour. We had nowhere else to go so we put our name down on the list and headed to the restaurant bar.Rate and Review : Group Dinner at the The Palms Restaurant in Carpinteria, California
Labor Day Weekend Camping at the Carpinteria State Beach, California

SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: We were thrilled this year when a friend of ours informed us that he was able to reserve a few camping spots during the Labor Day weekend in Carpinteria. The camp was in a premiere location at the Carpinteria the State Beach . One needs to plan this months in advance. Reservations need to be made early because spots during popular holidays get taken up as soon as they are available. We packed up camping gear, loaded the car with food, games, music and a ton of stuff we didn't need and headed out from Los Angeles. On this Friday afternoon before the vacation weekend traffic was surprisingly light and we made it to our destination in solid time. Once in Carpinteria it was not hard to find the campground. Just follow the signs to the state beach and you will be all right. SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: In the past few years, restaurant research has moved almost entirely online. A multitude of web sites have sprung up claiming to be "the" destination that will provide the best and most unbiased review of a dining establishment. Site editorial reviews have been scaled back and they mostly constitute a vanilla description of the eatery. The users are in charge now. Anyone can create an account at a specific site, most with just a valid e-mail, and start reviewing. As with many other online research undertakings, once you start searching you are engulfed in a gluttony of information. Encountering 2240000 results for a search term like "romantic dinner los angeles" would make anyone wonder about the validity and relevance. SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Walking around Newport 's waterfront was our favorite activity during our stay. Every morning and every evening we would stroll through the downtown area and almost always explore the accessible wharfs. Bannister Wharf is made for accessibility. Tourists flock here to shop, eat, take a cruise, walk around and feel like they are on a summer vacation. On one such occasion we had lunch at the Black Pearl Waterside Patio & Bar. You cannot miss it. It is one of the prominent outside dining areas on the Bannister Wharf. We arrived there just after noon. There were plenty of tables available on this summer weekday.
