Dinner at The Castle Hill Inn and Resort Sunset Room in Newport, Rhode Isla
2007-08-23 18:43:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: On the first night of our stay in Newport, RI we were treated to a most wonderful dinner and evening. We did not know much about the restaurant or its location, we just followed our hosts through the town of Newport and on to the South-West most corner of the island. When we turned into the Castle Hill Inn & Resort driveway our destination was clear. Upon arriving at the main building's entrance the vallets whisked our cars away and we proceeded inside. Reservations were made well in advance. The hosts welcomed us and showed our seven person party into the Sunset Room . We were seated at the oval (best) table in the middle of this round room with large windows providing truly spectacular views of the Rhode Island Sound, Conanicut Island, Narraganset Bay, the Claiborne Pell Bridge and all the magnificent nature around us.Rate and Review : Dinner at The Castle Hill Inn and Resort Sunset Room in Newport, Rhode Island
Visiting Ashland, Oregon and Seeing a Play at The Oregon Shakespeare Festiv
2007-08-21 20:19:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Ashland is a charming small town in Southern Oregon . When we were researching this area prior to our visit, several attractions kept coming up over and over again. The O regon Shakespeare Festival was the main event this region is known for. We were glad to learn that the festival runs from mid February until end of October (yes, that long) and that we will have the opportunity to see a play. The natural areas around Ashland, the beautiful downtown and the Lithia Park were also on our list of things to see. We bought tickets to the play Rabbit Hole at the New Theater several months in advance and were ready for our end of May visit.Rate and Review : Visiting Ashland, Oregon and Seeing a Play at The Oregon Shakespeare Festival

2007-08-18 22:35:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: This was one of the rare evenings in Newport where we had no plans for dinner whatsoever. We knew that we would like a place where we could sit outside, with great food and a place that would accommodate seven people. Earlier during that day we passed by a few Italian restaurants on Memorial Boulevard just West of Bellevue. They appeared nice so we headed in that direction. Sardella's was the clear winner because they promised to seat us in ten minutes at a charming table on the garden patio. Quick Stop at The Divine Swine B.T. Lane's Barbecue in Griswold, CT
2007-08-16 22:19:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: We had not left much time for the drive from Newport, RI to Hartford's Bradley International Airport (BDL) on the tail end of our July visit to this area. Google Maps suggested that we take the 138 West across most of Rhode Island. We did not realize that this road went through populated areas and that the speed limit did not exceed 35 miles per hour for the majority of the drive. This meant that we would not be able to sit down and eat anywhere. Our goal was not to eat at the airport. We looked at many roadside restaurants and diners and none really looked appealing enough to stop. Finally, right before getting on the 395, we whizzed by B.T. Lane s Barbecue . It looked good so we turned our car around at the closest safe crossroad and drove back to this barbecue restaurant. We were in Griswold, Connecticut and hungry.Rate and Review : Quick Stop at The Divine Swine B.T. Lane's Barbecue in Griswold, CT
Dinner at Brick Alley Pub & Restaurant Newport, RI
2007-08-15 07:25:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Newport , Rhode Island pleasantly surprised us with its vacation offerings. I know that it has been a popular tourist destination for years but we wanted to find that out for ourselves. Throughout the stay, we had no trouble finding appropriate dining options. On this evening we opted for a more casual meal at the Brick Alley Pub & Restaurant . It was walking distance to our hotel. Housed in a white building with yellow awnings it is not hard to find on Thames Street.Rate and Review : Dinner at Brick Alley Pub & Restaurant Newport, RI
Saturday Brunch at Cafe Laurent on Overland in Culver City

SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: We have dined at Cafe Laurent several times in the past and it had stayed in our memory as a pleasant establishment with tasty treats. On this past Saturday it was the rendezvous location for several old friends. It would be a small get together for a friend visiting from San Francisco. We would not want to disappoint our friend so we chose a proven eatery. Its location in Culver City proved convenient for everyone. Lunch at Empanada's Place on Sawtelle Blvd. in Los Angeles, CA
2007-08-11 17:00:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: The first time I went to Empanada 's Place , it was with my Colombian friend who loves empanadas. I learned that the restaurant is actually Argentinian once I walked in. Flags, articles, memorabilia, banners, sports teams photos, all pointed to the Argentinian heritage of the proprietors. Since that first time I have returned here on many occasions. This is a perfect lunch time spot. For some reason, it is not easy to find a solid reliable restaurant in the near vicinity so we always end up at Empanada's Place.Rate and Review : Lunch at Empanada's Place on Sawtelle Blvd. in Los Angeles , CA

SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: After a red-eye flight from Los Angeles, we found ourselves in Hartford, CT at the early time of seven o'clock in the morning. We picked up our rental car and headed to West Hartford to visit a friend. We would have breakfast with her before we resumed our trip East towards Rhode Island. Hello from Mexico City - A Compact Day of Discovery of Downtown
2007-08-09 17:00:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: This Friday morning the chirping tropical birds in the courtyard outside the building woke me up early. Vanessa had fixed a real Mexican breakfast: fruit - melon and papaya, with yoghurt and sweat bread. Appropriately strengthened we got going early at 8:45 to start exploring Mexicy City . Our explorations started with a ride on a public bus on the Eje Central, one of the main streets of Mexico City. It took us straight to "La Torre Latinoamericana", Mexico's famous 44-story skyscraper. Completed in 1956, this skyscraper has survived a number of earthquakes, most notably the big earthquake of 1985 which destroyed big sections of Mexico City . From the cafeteria on the 42nd floor we had a great 360 degree view over the city, although the smoggy atmosphere impeded our visibility.Rate and Review : Hello from Mexico City - A Compact Day of Discovery of Downtown
Lunch at Norma's Ocean Diner in Seaside, Oregon
2007-08-08 22:13:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: We made a quick stop in Seas ide , Oregon on our way to Portland. Morning hours were spent exploring the nature areas South of Seaside and we had developed quite an appetite in the meantime. One of our guidebooks suggested Norma's Ocean Diner and that was enough for us. The guide mentioned that the restaurant was in the city's downtown so we followed the signs and drove down Broadway until we reached Columbia Street where this restaurant was located. Free parking was available just down the street.Rate and Review : Lunch at Norma's Ocean Diner in Seaside, Oregon

SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: We did not know much about Gooseberry Beach prior to making the decision to visit it. What we knew was that it was represented on a tourist map of the area, the location in a nice sandy cove seemed appealing and we wanted to go swimming. We took the scenic drive down Ocean Avenue before our swim. These coastal areas provided a wonderful backdrop for photographs. Before we knew it the sign for Gooseberry Beach passed right by us. Ocean Coffee Roasters Cafe in Newport, Rhode Island
2007-08-06 17:00:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: We noticed the Ocean Coffee Roasters Cafe during a casual evening walk in Newport. We were on vacation so this area was not very familiar to us. It looked good from the outside, which, I suppose accounts for something. When we were recommended the location as a solid breakfast destination by our hotel concierge we decided to try it the next morning. This was the day we were to visit several of Newport's extravagant mansions so we needed to get some energy for the day.Rate and Review : Ocean Coffee Roasters Cafe in Newport, Rhode Island
Cliff Walk National Recreation Trail in Newport, Rhode Island
2007-08-05 17:00:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Our recent visit to Newport in Rhode Island would not have been complete without a trek down the Cliff Walk National Recreation Trail. We planned it, analyzed it and finally set off to conquer it. The task of finding free parking was completed at our hotel's concierge desk. She suggested that we park where Narragansett Avenue meets the trail. Here you can park for four hours (if there are available spots) and that should be enough to finish the trail. The caveat was that we had to cover a certain portion of the trail twice. That was not a problem for us. Newport also had solid public transportation and several buses will bring you near the start of the trail. Rate and Review : Cliff Walk National Recreation Trail in Newport, Rhode Island
Santa Fe, New Mexico - The City Different
2007-08-03 17:00:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: As it is with any place in the world worth visiting, Santa Fe, New Mexico reveals itself in stages. No one snapshot can capture it all. Rather, it takes a scrapbook of images, a journal of memories, and days spent exploring before the whole begins to come into view. The complex appeal of this oldest U.S. capital city is worth discovering. On the surface, Santa Fe doesn't look like it belongs in a list of American towns at all. It is much more foreign in appearance, given its centuries-old buildings, rounded adobe architecture, central town plaza, and narrow, wandering streets. Certainly there are signs of modern America scattered throughout historic downtown and the surrounding area. But these are lost in a sea of galleries and museums, small independently owned stores, restaurants, and hotels, all built in the low, brown, signature style of the town.

Saturday Evening Dinner at The Little Door Restaurant on West 3rd Street in
2007-08-02 14:00:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: The Little Door Restaurant has a reputation of having one of the most romantic dining patios in Los Angeles. That was one of the main reasons we selected it for a special occasion dinner last week. Reservations were made a few weeks in advance knowing that this eatery fills up quickly, especially on Saturday evenings. We asked for a patio table but were not guaranteed to actually get one, as were told by the hostess on the phone. We were running a bit late on the evening of our visit so we opted to park our car using the $5.50 valet service. Our reservations were for six o'clock when the restaurant opens on Saturdays.Rate and Review : Saturday Evening Dinner at The Little Door Restaurant on West 3rd Street in Los Angeles, California

SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: The corner of Marine and Highland Avenues in Manhattan Beach has had a makeover in the past few years. A few new architecturally cool buildings were put up making this area seem much more hip than before. In one of the contemporary buildings, a new cafe was opened and we have been waiting for the right time to visit it. From the outside, the Corkscrew Cafe seemed nice, a neighborhood bistro/deli one might say. We called ahead to make reservations not knowing if we could be promptly seated during lunch time. 2007-07-29 14:00:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: There are only two more chances to attend one of Nightvision MOCA After Dark evenings, August 4th and August 11th 2007. This program is organized by the Museum of Contemporary Art in Downtown Los Angeles and features a mix of events and activities. We were there a few weeks ago and had a really good time. MOCA was open until midnight so we strolled through the galleries. Here are our brief comments on the exhibitions at that time. Alexandra Grant, interesting and argumentative. The Art of Richard Tuttle - we did not get this one at all regardless of the artist's fame/notoriety. Poetics of the Handmade - fun and very interesting, some installations simply awesome. There was a DJ spinning some cool tunes. The bar was working fast pace. Cool lighting everywhere. There was even a table set up where you could draw, paint and make your own art pieces. Afternoon Tea at the Biltmore Hotel Rendezvous Court in Downtown Los Angel

Breakfast at Angelique Cafe in Downtown Los Angeles
2007-07-23 20:18:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Downtown Los Angeles lacks quaint small breakfast restaurants, especially the ones that are open on weekends. During the work week it is somewhat of a different story when thousands of employees of multinational corporations take over this area. Delis, cafes and other eateries are then all bustling with activity. When the weekend comes, downtown Los Angeles becomes eerily empty. You can encounter a rare tourist, member of a film crew and perhaps a few people heading to the museum or to see a show at one of the downtown venues. We were pleasantly surprised to learn of Angelique Cafe . It was recommended on several online sites as a good weekend breakfast destination. The only way to check this out was to visit the area for ourselves. Unfortunately we did not have time to spend a few days here. It would be a morning time visit, stroll through town and the mandatory walk to the Haystack Rock area. Our stopover started with a visit to the Visitor's Center on Spruce Street. Visiting the Tillamook Creamery in Tillamook, Oregon

SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: I have been a connoisseur of Tillamook cheese for years. We buy the extra sharp cheddar on a weekly basis at home. The quality and the flavor are constantly great. When we learned that our Oregon journey will take us by the Tillamook cheese factory and that there is a Visitor's Center for people like us (visitors/tourists) on the premises there was really nothing much we could do to resist including it in our itinerary. In the early evening, on the day of our visit, we drove into Tillamook. The creamery is a bit North of the city. We did not stop in the small town and drove right through the historical part of town. SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Before heading out to a party last Saturday we met up with a few friends at the Crepe Vine Bistro and Wine Bar in Old Town Pasadena . Our friends suggested the place. They live in Pasadena and had the word about currently cool little hangouts. The restaurant's Colorado Boulevard location meant that we would not be able to park next to the establishment. Luckily there are plenty of public parking garages in the area. This will set you back around seven dollars. Streets of Old Town Pasadena were packed as they often are on weekend evenings. Visiting the Sea Lion Caves North of Florence in Oregon

SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: During our Oregon visit, we were asked one question more than any other. What was it, you are probably curious now? It was along the lines of: Did you visit the Sea Lion Caves? This would be followed up by: Did you like it and was it worth it? We did visit the Sea Lion Caves. You can read on to figure our if we liked it or not. After listening to our response some would answer back that it was a tourist trap and others would point to it as the biggest tourist attraction on the Oregon Coast. It is interesting to hear both sides of the argument. I just do not know why there is such a heated debate about it ...
