Gooseberry Beach on Ocean Avenue in Newport, Rhode Island
2007-08-07 20:26:00 SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: We did not know much about Gooseberry Beach prior to making the decision to visit it. What we knew was that it was represented on a tourist map of the area, the location in a nice sandy cove seemed appealing and we wanted to go swimming. We took the scenic drive down Ocean Avenue before our swim. These coastal areas provided a wonderful backdrop for photographs. Before we knew it the sign for Gooseberry Beach passed right by us. We had to turn around on Carroll Avenue and drive back towards the entrance ...Rate and Review : Gooseberry Beach on Ocean Avenue in Newport, Rhode Island
Ocean Coffee Roasters Cafe in Newport, Rhode Island
2007-08-06 17:00:00 SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: We noticed the Ocean Coffee Roasters Cafe during a casual evening walk in Newport. We were on vacation so this area was not very familiar to us. It looked good from the outside, which, I suppose accounts for something. When we were recommended the location as a solid breakfast destination by our hotel concierge we decided to try it the next morning. This was the day we were to visit several of Newport's extravagant mansions so we needed to get some energy for the day.Rate and Review : Ocean Coffee Roasters Cafe in Newport, Rhode Island
Cliff Walk National Recreation Trail in Newport, Rhode Island
2007-08-05 17:00:00 SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Our recent visit to Newport in Rhode Island would not have been complete without a trek down the Cliff Walk National Recreation Trail. We planned it, analyzed it and finally set off to conquer it. The task of finding free parking was completed at our hotel's concierge desk. She suggested that we park where Narragansett Avenue meets the trail. Here you can park for four hours (if there are available spots) and that should be enough to finish the trail. The caveat was that we had to cover a certain portion of the trail twice. That was not a problem for us. Newport also had solid public transportation and several buses will bring you near the start of the trail. Rate and Review : Cliff Walk National Recreation Trail in Newport, Rhode Island
Santa Fe, New Mexico - The City Different
2007-08-03 17:00:00 SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: As it is with any place in the world worth visiting, Santa Fe, New Mexico reveals itself in stages. No one snapshot can capture it all. Rather, it takes a scrapbook of images, a journal of memories, and days spent exploring before the whole begins to come into view. The complex appeal of this oldest U.S. capital city is worth discovering. On the surface, Santa Fe doesn't look like it belongs in a list of American towns at all. It is much more foreign in appearance, given its centuries-old buildings, rounded adobe architecture, central town plaza, and narrow, wandering streets. Certainly there are signs of modern America scattered throughout historic downtown and the surrounding area. But these are lost in a sea of galleries and museums, small independently owned stores, restaurants, and hotels, all built in the low, brown, signature style of the town. Saturday Evening Dinner at The Little Door Restaurant on West 3rd Street in
2007-08-02 14:00:00 SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: The Little Door Restaurant has a reputation of having one of the most romantic dining patios in Los Angeles. That was one of the main reasons we selected it for a special occasion dinner last week. Reservations were made a few weeks in advance knowing that this eatery fills up quickly, especially on Saturday evenings. We asked for a patio table but were not guaranteed to actually get one, as were told by the hostess on the phone. We were running a bit late on the evening of our visit so we opted to park our car using the $5.50 valet service. Our reservations were for six o'clock when the restaurant opens on Saturdays.Rate and Review : Saturday Evening Dinner at The Little Door Restaurant on West 3rd Street in Los Angeles, California
Lunch at the Corkscrew Cafe in Manhattan Beach, California
2007-07-31 14:00:00 SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: The corner of Marine and Highland Avenues in Manhattan Beach has had a makeover in the past few years. A few new architecturally cool buildings were put up making this area seem much more hip than before. In one of the contemporary buildings, a new cafe was opened and we have been waiting for the right time to visit it. From the outside, the Corkscrew Cafe seemed nice, a neighborhood bistro/deli one might say. We called ahead to make reservations not knowing if we could be promptly seated during lunch time. As it turned out we did not need a reservation. Parking was not a problem either though in this part of town that can be a challenge at times ...Rate and Review : Lunch at the Corkscrew Cafe in Manhattan Beach, California
Two More Chances to Attend a Nightvision MOCA After Dark Evening in Los Ang
2007-07-29 14:00:00 SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: There are only two more chances to attend one of Nightvision MOCA After Dark evenings, August 4th and August 11th 2007. This program is organized by the Museum of Contemporary Art in Downtown Los Angeles and features a mix of events and activities. We were there a few weeks ago and had a really good time. MOCA was open until midnight so we strolled through the galleries. Here are our brief comments on the exhibitions at that time. Alexandra Grant, interesting and argumentative. The Art of Richard Tuttle - we did not get this one at all regardless of the artist's fame/notoriety. Poetics of the Handmade - fun and very interesting, some installations simply awesome. There was a DJ spinning some cool tunes. The bar was working fast pace. Cool lighting everywhere. There was even a table set up where you could draw, paint and make your own art pieces. Afternoon Tea at the Biltmore Hotel Rendezvous Court in Downtown Los Angel
2007-07-25 00:50:00 SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Where, oh where, have all the tearooms gone? Several of our favorite tearooms have closed down in the South Bay area of Los Angel es. Aren't there enough regular patrons for this kind of treat to keep these establishments open? ... We wanted to organize an afternoon tea get together with friends recently and were disappointed by the available options. Some of the options did appear nice but we were not ready to pay sixty-five dollars per person for a cup of tea and the accompanying finger food. Fortunately, we read an article about the Rendezvous Court at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles and their afternoon tea service. It was twenty-two dollars per person and the tea was served in their beautiful Rendezvous Court. Breakfast at Angelique Cafe in Downtown Los Angeles
2007-07-23 20:18:00 SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Downtown Los Angeles lacks quaint small breakfast restaurants, especially the ones that are open on weekends. During the work week it is somewhat of a different story when thousands of employees of multinational corporations take over this area. Delis, cafes and other eateries are then all bustling with activity. When the weekend comes, downtown Los Angeles becomes eerily empty. You can encounter a rare tourist, member of a film crew and perhaps a few people heading to the museum or to see a show at one of the downtown venues. We were pleasantly surprised to learn of Angelique Cafe . It was recommended on several online sites as a good weekend breakfast destination. The only way to check this out was to visit the area for ourselves. Unfortunately we did not have time to spend a few days here. It would be a morning time visit, stroll through town and the mandatory walk to the Haystack Rock area. Our stopover started with a visit to the Visitor's Center on Spruce Street. In the early evening, on the day of our visit, we drove into Tillamook. The creamery is a bit North of the city. We did not stop in the small town and drove right through the historical part of town. Visiting the Sea Lion Caves North of Florence in Oregon

It was along the lines of: Did you visit the Sea Lion Caves? This would be followed up by: Did you like it and was it worth it? We did visit the Sea Lion Caves. You can read on to figure our if we liked it or not. After listening to our response some would answer back that it was a tourist trap and others would point to it as the biggest tourist attraction on the Oregon Coast. It is interesting to hear both sides of the argument. I just do not know why there is such a heated debate about it ... Early Afternoon Visit to Applegate Lake in Southern Oregon
2007-07-11 00:26:00 SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: On the first full day of our visit to Oregon we decided to take a suggestion from our innkeepers and visit Applegate Lake. They praised its beauty and surroundings and that was enough to convince us to start out day's tour there. From Jacksonville, where we were staying, highway 238 provided a direct route. We were only to remember to take a left turn onto Upper Applegate Road in Ruch. Once in Ruch we stopped at a well equipped supermarket and bought some hydrating drinks. We also stopped at the local tourist office following its signs. It was closed, perhaps because it was Sunday and Memorial day weekend at that. Actually, it seemed like it had not been open in a while. The police station in the same small mobile home was closed as well. Taking the Los Angeles Public Transportation system for the First Time in T

I am not proud when I say that for the past ten years I had not used any public means of transportation in Los Angeles . What made me do it now? Curiosity was the main motivator. A small personal contribution to minimizing the city's CO2 emissions was also a notable factor. I live in the South Bay area of Los Angeles. My workplace, near LAX was to be my first test. The mulling period lasted around six months. Then, for some unexplainable reason I finally decided to give it a go last week. As always, to ease my unfamiliarity with the matter in question I consulted the wise old Internet(s). Cloudy and rainy or snowy weather can be a spoiler for the amazing views we were expecting so we had to adjust the originally planned day of the visit. We were fortunate to start our journey on a perfectly clear sunny Oregon day. Nothing better than that. We followed the directions we obtained earlier. Signs are posted everywhere and even without prior research it would have been obvious to find our way to Crater Lake. We also intended to visit Rogue Gorge and Natural Bridge areas recommended as scenic spots along the Crater Lake Highway (62). The initial part of the drive was non eventful and at parts very urban. There are many small villages and historic cities that are a reflection of the prosperous mining boom of the early 18th century. This vast economic wealth transformed the region and resulted in the Brazilian Golden Age, a movement purely distinct of the Minas Gerias state. When you walk down the cobble- stoned streets lined with ornate cathedrals painted in pure gold, imposing colonial mansions, and intricate fountains you'll be transported back to one of the most prosperous times in Brazilian history.
