Hello from San Francisco: An Eco-Friendly Excursion to Muir Woods and a Son
2009-08-31 05:11:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: After a late night of exotic entertainment at Asia SF, our day got started very early. Although it was raining I decided to capture a few photos of the area surrounding our hotel, The Handlery Union Square Hotel, which is located on downtown Geary Street. I walked just a few steps east to Union Square, the heart of San Francisco 's shopping, hotel and theatre district. Big shopping venues such as Macy's, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale's, Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus surround this historic square. Luxury stores such as Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Dior, Chanel, Prada, Armani and Hermes are also represented.Just west from The Handlery are two historic theatres: the Geary and Curran Theatres. The Moscone Convention Centre and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art are close by as well. Before our excursion to Muir Woods I embarked on an hour long walk to check out some of the streets surrounding Union Square and had a delicious waffle breakfast in a little...

SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Not to be outdone by beautiful oceanfront paths at Kaanapali and Wailea, the Kapalua area has its own stunning trail by the beach. Kapalua Coastal Trail even received the American Planning Association Hawai‘i Chapter’s Environmental/Preservation Award. Being aficionados of these kinds of trails we made our way to Kapalua to check it out and enjoy another day of Maui wonders. After a walk through the Kapalua Ritz and their property we drove to a small parking lot at Kapalua Place and Ironwood Ln, parked there and headed down the well maintained set of stairs toward Oneloa Bay.Rate and Review : Kapalua Coastal Trail near Oneloa Bay, Kapalua, Maui
Lunch at Simmzy's Pub in Manhattan Beach, California
2009-08-10 08:01:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Walking through the streets of downtown Manhattan Beach is a favorite pastime of ours. The area has a nice beachy upscale feeling and some of our favorite coffee shops, eateries and such. When new establishments come to town we check them out as soon as we can. One such place we observed is Simmzy's Pub, a relative newcomer. I remember this space housing a Japanese restaurant not long ago. We noticed crowds every time we passed by Simmzy's and that only increased our wish to visit it in the near future. We had lunch there last week and here is the verdict.Rate and Review : Lunch at Simmzy's Pub in Manhattan Beach, California
Weekday Lunch at Hank's Bistro in Lawndale, California
2009-08-06 19:21:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: I have not been to Hank's Bistro in several years prior to this last visit. We used to go there for good Persian food all the time. A lunch time meeting with a friend in the area reminded me of this restaurant and the decision was made to have our mid day meal there. We met around noon on this weekday. The restaurant is located on the corner of Hawthorne Blvd and Rosecrans in a mini mall. The signs for the restaurant have faded a bit and the inscription with the name was hard to read. The Persian lettering was more obvious.Rate and Review : Weekday Lunch at Hank's Bistro in Lawndale, California

Quick Lunch at Yokohama Sushi in Culver City, CA
2009-08-01 10:00:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: In the midst of running a million errands today, I stopped for a quick lunch at Yokohama Sushi in Culver City . It is located in the mall at the corner of Venice and Overland. You cannot see it from the street however. It is well hidden in a passage way between the Starbucks and Best Buy (generally speaking). I walked in to ask if they had lunch specials, they showed me some combinations that looked good and my mind was made up.Rate and Review : Quick Lunch at Yokohama Sushi in Culver City, CA

Quick Evening Meal at Ojai Pizza Restaurant in Ojai, California
2008-06-05 20:05:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: We arrived to Ojai late on a Thursday afternoon. After checking in to our place of stay we decided to walk around town a bit. By this time it was getting dark. Not many people were to be seen at this time of day on the main East Ojai Avenue strip or even the Ojai Arcade. We only noted several groups of teenagers hanging around. Most business were closed by nine o'clock. We wanted a quick bite to eat and our options were quickly dwindling. Our walk took us by Ojai Pizza Restaurant . It was open and we peeked in and asked one of the servers if they were open. The response was affirmative making our decision process that much easier.Rate and Review : Quick Evening Meal at the Ojai Pizza in Ojai, California

SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: It had been an exciting day already: my helicopter ride with Niagara Helicopter had given me a close-up aerial view over Niagara Falls and my visit to the Niagara Falls Butterfly Conservatory had made for a perfect winter escape to a tropical sanctuary. But more adventure was yet to come.Appropriately strengthened from my very late lunch at "The Famous", a 24-hour upscale diner at the Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort, I was ready for my evening explorations. And anyone wanting to enjoy a view of Zürich's numerous, verdant roof terraces and hidden gardens can pay CHF 2 to visit the Karlsturm tower of the Grossmünster Church - a fair price for such a magnificent view.

A Family Tradition: Five Generations of Mezcaleros, Producers of Quality Me
2008-05-29 21:46:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Don Isaac recounts awaking at 4 am, then walking from his village of Matatlán, with his mule, to Oaxaca, arriving some 14 or 15 hours later ... just to buy a large cántaro, the traditional clay vessel then used for making and transporting mezcal. Often he would stop en route, at Santa María el Tule, for a drink of refreshing tejate before carrying on. Quenching his thirst, putting his feet up for a short while, and chatting with his favorite tejatero, made the arduous journey accepted custom, just part of the job. Eighty-eight-year-old Isaac Jiménez Arrazola has been producing mezcal in Matatlán all his life, just like his father and grandfather before him, his sons Enrique and Octavio, and now his grandchildren. The town has a colorful history and pride in being one of the oldest colonial settlements in the country, founded in 1525, only a few years after Cortés arrived in Mexico. But for literally hundreds of years the crowning glory of Mat...

Breakfast at Bonnie Lu's Country Cafe in Ojai, California
2008-05-29 01:27:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Bonnie Lu's Country Cafe was very conveniently located to our place of stay in Ojai and we decided to give it a try one morning. We liked the classic All American diner look of this eatery and the fact that it was almost always packed when we walked by. The popularity must also stem from the fact that it is located in the Ojai Arcade, the most popular mingling area of town. If you are arriving by car you will most likely find parking behind the eatery or on one of the side streets. Ojai Avenue gets quite busy during the day making parking there a problem. We were fortunate to be able to walk to Bonnie Lu's. No hassle just an easy stroll. The hostess welcomed us nicely. Several tables were being cleaned up and she offered us a choice. We selected a booth on the left side of the main dining room.Rate and Review : Breakfast at Bonnie Lu's Country Cafe in Ojai, California

SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Our friends recommended Chaba Thai last Sunday as a meeting spot, to have some good food and catch up on the latest news. We did not make reservations in advance. This is usually not a good idea, but as it turned out on this occasion, it did not matter. I passed by Chaba Thai many times in the past while driving up and down Pacific Coast Highway. They have a prominent sign outside and have (if I am not mistaken) recently renovated the establishment. It was appealing from the outside. It was time to check it out from the inside. Their parking lot is large and can accommodate quite a few cars. Rate and Review : Sunday Dinner at Chaba Thai Bay Grill on PCH in Redondo Beach , California

SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: We have been coming to this part of Los Angeles for business quite often lately and have always wanted to try a new breakfast place. This time, we did not prepare at all. We just drove down Third Street and kept our eyes open for a breakfast eatery. Driving East on Third (past La Cienega) right after Crescent Heights Blvd., we spotted a small place unknown to us. We parked at one of the meters parking spots and walked to it. It was Quality Food & Beverage . They were not open yet. We had another fifteen minutes to kill. Luckily, one of the staff let us in when they saw us hovering around the door. Saturday Evening Dinner at Suzanne's Cuisine in Ojai, California
2008-05-23 23:42:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: There are four to five restaurants in Ojai that always come up as a "not to be missed" culinary destination. Suzanne's Cuisine is definitely one of them. Locals recommended it, visitors recommended it, online reviews were favorable so we had to give it a try. We made reservations over the phone four days in advance for dinner at six thirty in the evening. I was not sure how to respond to their question whether we wanted an inside table or a table on the patio. They noted that the patio is the more popular choice so I went for it. The lady on the other side of the line told me that one of their favorite tables is available and that's where they would seat us. Excellent. On the day of our visit we walked through Ojai and on to the restaurant's location on Ojai Avenue. The building that houses this restaurant is quite large. There is ample parking at the premises. The main entrance is wonderfully decorated with beautiful plants and flowers. It was ...
