Iced Green Tea Lemonade (and else) at the Tea Exchange in Manhattan Beach,
2011-07-12 23:58:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: The Tea Exchange has had its storefront in Manhattan Beach Metlox Plaza for many a month now. When you walk, bike or walk into downtown via Manhattan Beach Blvd you cannot miss it. It blends nicely into the entire modern look and feel of this mall. Competition for coffee and tea dollars is quite fierce in this part of town (many other shops within minutes) so one has to be really really good to survive. I have visited The Tea Exchange several times in the past few weeks and here is my verdict.Rate and Review : Iced Green Tea Lemonade (and else) at the Tea Exchange in Manhattan Beach, CA
First Annual Birthplace of Route 66 Festival Announced - Springfield, Misso
2011-06-30 01:09:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Here is an interesting festival announcement that I received in my inbox: First Annual Birthplace of Route 66 Festival Announced. Springfield, Mo. The West Central Neighborhood Alliance is planning the first annual Birthplace of Route 66 Festival in Springfield, Mo.The festival is set for noon-8 p.m. Aug. 13 on College Street west of Grant Avenue. Activities include live music, food, activities for kids, interpretive history, a classic car show and more.On April 30, 1926, officials first proposed the name of Route 66, the new Chicago-to-Los Angeles highway that became one of the most famous roads in America. People from around the world seeking a unique look at American culture still travel the route even though it was officially removed from the U.S. highway system in 1985. Many portions of “The Mother Road” are still visible in Springfield, along with other sites and sights that were at their heyday when Route 66 was the main east-west route thro...

Ontario Travel - Peterborough: The Peterborough Farmers Market, Lunch on Hu
2011-06-13 16:00:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: After my brief stay in Peterborough over the July long weekend I decided to head back there to explore this travel region in greater detail. I have always liked the Kawartha Region, with its beautiful lakes and rolling hills, and equally importantly, I always appreciate its easy reachability and proximity to Toronto. It takes just about an hour and half to leave the Big Smoke behind and reach the serene countryside and jewel-blue lakes of the Kawartha Region. So on August 4, 2010 I set off on a 3-day adventure to explore more of this popular vacation region. I arrived mid-morning at my home for the next two days: the Golden Pathways Bed and Breakfast where dynamic owner Cora Whittington welcomed me like an old friend. We had already met earlier in July of this year when I had spent two nights at her relaxing country retreat.Rate and Review : Ontario Travel - Peterborough: The Peterborough Farmers Market , Lunch on Hunter Street and a Cruise
Hierve el Agua in Oaxaca, Mexico: Oaxaca's Bubbling Springs and Petri
2011-06-11 17:00:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Hierve el Agua is one of the least visited attractions along Oaxaca 's central valley touring routes. Yet for naturalists, photographers, hikers and those with an interest in ecotourism, it holds much more allure than most of the traditional sights. What is Oaxaca's Hierve el Agua?Translated "the water boils," Hierve el Agua is actually a misnomer. At two locations about 40 meters apart, water does indeed "boil" up from the ground; not hot, but rather forced to the surface by the earth's interior pressure, arriving at roughly atmospheric temperature. It rises to the surface, then channels into two man-made pools of fresh, mineral-rich water, suitable for swimming since the pools gradually reach depths upwards of seven feet. Taste the water before it reaches the lower pool, as it flows along a narrow canal from the puncture in the earth; it's crystal clear and pure, of course aside from natural mineral compounds.Rate and Review : Hierve el Agua ...

Lunch Buffet at India's Tandoori Restaurant on Rosecrans Ave in Hawtho
2011-06-10 00:34:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: It seems like the proprietors of India 's Tandoori restaurant do understand the importance of good online reviews. Their Yelp page is quite impressive with over two hundred reviews and an average rating of over four stars. That many people cannot be wrong, I always say, so I decided to give them a try. Since the initial visit I have eaten there at least ten times. It is usually during lunch time for their buffet. The restaurant is located near the intersections of Rosecrans and Inglewood avenues. In a standard run of the mill strip mall look for their sign. Parking is plentiful at one of the many available spots nearby.Rate and Review : Lunch Buffet at India's Tandoori Restaurant on Rosecrans Ave in Hawthorne, CA
Hamburger Take Out at Umami Burger on La Brea in Los Angeles, CA
2011-02-28 06:46:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Just a few days after GQ named Umami Burger Burger of the Year, I stopped by the La Brea location to have a taste for myself. As it appears, many others thought the same. Driving by the restaurant, I noticed a crowd in front. I saw the sign for $2.50 valet parking so I just kept going down La Brea and finally parked a bit South of Wilshire. It was Sunday and parking was free. This always makes my day. After a two minute walk I was at Umami. There was a hostess in front of the entrance taking people's names and providing basic information.Rate and Review : Hamburger Take Out at Umami Burger on La Brea in Los Angeles , CA
Take Your Kids to the Carousel in Santa Monica. They Will Love You For It!
2011-02-01 21:29:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: In this age of high tech entertainment and digital extravaganzas, can carousels compete for your kids' attention? They absolutely can. I would characterize it as guaranteed fun. We proved it ourselves last week when we visited the Santa Monica Carousel with our two and a half year old daughter. Located at the foot of the Santa Monica Pier, the impressive carousel captures the imagination of young and old. We did not know much about it prior to the visit, apart from that "it's there". We did engage in some pre visit buildup making our daughter extremely eager to finally experience it.Rate and Review : Take Your Kids to the Carousel in Santa Monica. They'll Love You For It!
Lunch at the Gypsy Den in Santa Ana, California
2011-01-01 00:22:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: We enjoyed some quality kid playing time at the Kidseum in Santa Ana this past weekend. The spacious play rooms, hands on instruments, dress up area, art room and what not made for an activity filled morning. That meant that as lunch time was approaching we were thinking more about food and less about play. We were eager to try something unique in this part of town. The lady that works at the kidseum, though most friendly and helpful during various kids projects did not provide us with good suggestions. They were mostly the usual major fast food chains. We searched on our smartphone and several well reviewed places popped up. Gypsy Den appeared solid and not too distant. We called them. They replied to our main questions. They were open, no big crowd and they had high chairs. Cool. Let's go.Rate and Review : Lunch at the Gypsy Den in Santa Ana, California
Total Lunar Eclipse Coming Our Way on December 21, 2010
2010-12-17 21:04:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Total lunar eclipses are not that uncommon. What makes this one so special is that it is occurring on the day of the Winter solstice. That is the longest night of the year. Then to make it even more interesting there will be a total lunar eclipse that will last for seventy two minutes, not including the time it will take the moon to get into position, so to speak. The event will be visible to a large population on our plant, but North America and South America seem to have an advantage. Since it will start around 9.30 Pacific Time, Los Angeles and California residents do not have to stay up late either to view it. How awesome is that? Lunar eclipses do not require special viewing apparatus either, just look up and do not strain your neck. Happy lunar holiday eclipse!
Antiques and Collectibles in Mexico: San Miguel de Allende, Mexico City (L
2010-10-22 23:20:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: The Sunday open air antiques stalls at Lagunilla in Mexico City , the expansive roadside collectibles shops just north of San Miguel de Allende, the stores and weekend marketplace at Los Sapos in Puebla, and good old fashioned picking in the state of Oaxaca. Each provides a fruitful avenue for acquiring antiques and collectibles in central and southern Mexico. Of course there are many more, but over the past two decades this transplanted Canadian has found success pounding the pavement (often in the case of Oaxaca barely passable dirt roads and pathways) in these four venues. Lunch at Malibu Fish Grill in El Segundo
2010-10-13 07:27:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: The sleek and modern mini mall at 400 N. Sepulveda in El Segundo is slowly filling up with tenants. Rubio's and a credit union have been there for a while but vacancies outnumbered businesses. Recently, several new ventures moved in. One of them, Malibu Fish Grill, moved into the prime South West corner location nicely visible from busy Sepulveda Boulevard. I stopped by there for lunch several times in the past few weeks and what follows is my verdict.Rate and Review : Lunch at Malibu Fish Grill in El Segundo

Only recently did I visit one location for the first time. We found ourselves in Silver Lake on Sunset Blvd., had lunch there and decided to complete a fine afternoon with some nice coffee. I love my coffee breaks and my mouth was watering much prior to our visit. Rate and Review : Quick Coffee Stop at Intelligentsia Silver Lake Coffeebar
Budget Travel in the Western Cape South Africa

The Garden Route follows the coastline of the Indian Ocean on the Eastern Cape Coast, between a belt of mountain ranges, the Outeniqua and Tsitsikamma mountains inland. The Garden Route enjoys one of the mildest and most equable climates, with unspoiled golden beaches, beautiful lagoons and estuaries and boasts in excess of 250 species of birds.Rate and Review : Budget Travel in the Western Cape South Africa

Ginkaku-ji in Kyoto, Japan - The Shogun's Silver Pavilion Paradise
2010-08-17 20:53:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Leaving the temple precinct of Nanzen-ji in central Kyoto, I headed north on foot along the pretty canal-side path that is now more famously known as the Philosopher's Walk. Come springtime, this delightful walkway is one of the city's most popular venues for hanami, or cherry blossom viewing parties. This early in the morning the path was eerily quiet, though pleasantly so, allowing me ample time to reflect on my memorable visit the previous day to Kinkaku-ji and its fabulous "Golden Pavilion". My plan was to arrive at Ginkaku-ji, the "Temple of the Silver Pavilion", in plenty of time to beat the crowds and to absorb the beauty of its gardens in peaceful solitude.Rate and Review : Ginkaku-ji in Kyoto, Japan - The Shogun 's Silver Pavilion Paradise
Children's Cooking Classes in Oaxaca, Mexico
2010-07-23 00:52:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: What better way to begin offering children's cooking classes than with pizza and mango smoothies. The inaugural children's cooking lesson at Chef Pilar Cabrera's Casa de los Sabores, in Oaxaca , Mexico , imparted the basics of kitchen safety and hygiene, composting and recycling, and nutrition, all within a three-hour session. And at the same time, lead instructor Ninfa Raigosa infused the morning with helpful food preparation tips that even as adults we don't always learn early enough in our culinary lives. But best of all, it took place within the context of preparing recipes which are fun for children to make --- with the dreaded green salad snuck in at the end. 20,000 Acres of Open Space Gifted to Orange County

SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: LA Times (Irvine Co. gives 20,000 acres of open space to Orange County ) ran a most interesting story a few days ago regarding a donation of 20,000 acres of open space and parkland to Orange County . The gift comes from the Irvine Company which owns and manages large swaths of land in this part of Southern California. This action doubles the park space available in Orange County. Most of this property is located at the foot of the Cleveland National Forest. Together with other protected bordering areas, it creates a large uninterrupted natural environment. A very welcome gift for the crowded Southern California landscape.

Namakwa in South Africa is a Biodiversity Hotspot
2010-03-23 05:55:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: Namakwa, as part of the Succulent Karoo, is a biodiversity hotspot and as such is the only arid hotspot in the world. It contains more than 6 000 plant species, 250 species of birds, 78 species of mammals, 132 species of reptiles and amphibians and an unknown number of insects, making it the world's most diverse, arid environment. More than 40% of these species are found nowhere else on Earth. The world's largest forests of quiver trees or kokerbome - Aloe dichotoma - lie outside Loeriesfontein, Kenhardt and Onseepkans. Owing its name to the San, who used the trunk, branches and its bark to make quivers, the aloe grows to four metres, stores water in its trunk, resists drought and lives for up to 400 years.Rate and Review : Namakwa in South Africa is a Biodiversity Hotspot

SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: After a late night of exotic entertainment at Asia SF, our day got started very early. Big shopping venues such as Macy's, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale's, Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus surround this historic square. Luxury stores such as Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Dior, Chanel, Prada, Armani and Hermes are also represented.Just west from The Handlery are two historic theatres: the Geary and Curran Theatres.
