A few posts ago, I mentioned I was busy with new work projects. Now it?s time to share it with you.I started teaching Advertising at the Universidad de Palermo. It?s a great experience to be back in university, now as a teacher. By the way, you?ll notice their ad on the left column. Last year they invited me to participate at the first Latin American Design Encounter they organised, where I talked about Atípica and the recovery of ethnic motifs applied in contemporary design objects after the economic crisis we had in Argentina a few years ago. An interesting thing happened today. After having lunch with Karina (see previous post) we headed to Gorriti St. to see if we could find Fran cis Ford Coppola?s hotel. I had read on Will Bonner?s blog about it, so I was curious to see the building. We arrived at the place and found a shop. Next to it, there was a man on a car. We asked him if he was from the area. He not only was a neighbour, but to my surprise, he pointed out his house to us. It turned out it was one of the houses I had photographed for my post ?My perfect day in Palermo Viejo? (photo with angels). I told him about it and that I particularly liked the angels work on the front. He said it was his wife's artwork (artist Marita Dodero) and he introduced her to us. After that, we were told that a hotel was being built across the street and that the red house (photos below) was Coppola?s hotel. We rang the bell, but nobody answered. Lunch at Io te Amasso

Today I met my friend Karina for lunch at Io te amasso, a restaurant located across Plaza Palermo Viejo, on Malabia St. It was a rainy day, so it was easy to get a table. We shared a ?Napolitana? pizza. Service was extremely quick and it was, probably, one of the best pizzas I?ve had in a while. The place is very simple yet very recommendable.*Hoy almorcé con mi amiga Karina en Io te Amasso, restaurante ubicado en Malabia, frente a la Plaza Palermo Viejo. Día lluvioso, con poca gente en el barrio, así que conseguimos mesa fácilmente. Compartimos una pizza napolitana. ¡Excelente! El servicio fue súper rápido y aunque el lugar es sencillo, vale la pena.*Hoje almocei com a minha amiga Karina no restaurante Io te Amasso, na rua Malabia, frente à Plaza Palermo Viejo. Last night I had dinner with friends at Roof .Located on the corner of Costa Rica & Medrano, this restaurant has a calm & pleasant ambiance and offers a good, finely presented cuisine. Service was perfect and portions were huge. The nice atmosphere was accented with soft music.To begin with, we had a selection of different appetizers, including filled pastries, romaine leaves, olives, cheese and ham. Then, I went for the tasty chicken with sesame, which came with broccoli, mushroom & potatoes au gratin. For dessert, I enjoyed a delicious apple pie with ice cream. My friends, who ordered chicken & green ravioli, mentioned it was also good. We had a great time until 01:30 AM.*Anoche cené con amigos en Roof. Hi folks, I’ve been quiet busy lately but here are some updates on the blocks I have already mentioned on this blog.On El Salvador 4500-4600: there is a new shop on the right hand (A+, sportwear) and Bettina Anderson closed. Arte Étnico Argentino moved one block (El Salvador 4600-4700) and Kukla is now located there. There is another shop for kids, Truglio on 4480 Costa Rica St., next to restaurant Me Leva Brasil.On Malabia, between El Salvador and Costa Rica, there are two recent openings: Rosh (women’s) and Mitaí (kids also). It has a nice artwork at the front (photo).On Gurruchaga St, between El Salvador & Costa Rica, there is a new boutique called Madonna Santa (another photo). Will Plaza Cortázar be renovated? / ¿Será remodelada Plaza Cortázar? /

Craftsmen against the renovation of Plaza Cortázar were camping there, as Clarín published a couple of days ago.I think Plaza Cortázar deserves to be renovated. Neighbours who pay their taxes also agree. I also think that moving the fair 5 blocks from there, as the city of BA government has planned, will be positive for Palermo Viejo. The new area that will accommodate them will probably become another interesting focal point in the neighborhood. Other beautiful streets will be visited. Neighbors will not suffer anymore because of the noise. Shop owners who had invested around Plaza Cortázar will not see anymore the unloyal competition from street vendors who do noy pay any taxes and sell (in some cases) manufactured goods as crafts. Walking around the place will no longer be a chaos, not to mention the improvement of traffic. There is a construction boom in Buenos Aires and Palermo Viejo is one of the most fast-changing ‘hoods in town. New buildings are modifying the aspect of the area. Look at the pictures below.I took the first one on 5/25/2006. The second one was taken on 01/09/2007. It is the same corner (Armenia & Guatemala streets). Who will move into all these new structures? Argentinians? Foreigners? I will continue photographing all the interesting houses left before they are gone, just in case. The following snaps are also views you might find often nowadays.
