They are long, very long; some 1,112 feet long to be exact, they have 15 decks and carry approximately 3,634 passengers. They are the world’s largest cruise ships and they are coming to Puerto Rico . If you are here in San Juan, Puerto Rico on May 8th then you will have the chance to see one of the world’s largest cruise ships; the Freedom of the Seas of the Royal Caribbean cruise line. It will dock in San Juan as part of its 7 night Caribbean cruise which originates in Miami. If you miss the Freedom of the Seas, you can catch its sister ship Liberty of the Seas later in May when it also docks in San Juan. (more…)

In the past I have used sites like Expedia, Travelocity and Orbitz to book flights and hotels, as well as using the airline or hotel websites. It can take some time to check these sites individually trying to find the best deal. This is where the following sites can be helpful. 1st San Juan Music Festival Starring Bon Jovi

OK, the majority of the details for this Bon Jovi concert have been released and as of today Saturday April 28, tickets are on sale. On June 8, 2007 Bon Jovi will be headlining the 1st Annual San Juan Music Festival at the Hiram Bithorn in San Juan, Puerto Rico. This will be the first time in 20 years that Bon Jovi has played in Puerto Rico. The festival is scheduled to start at 6pm and end at midnight. As of today the line up is: Bon Jovi Mishka (Matthew McConaughey band) Vivanativa Millo Torres y el 3er Planeta The All American Rejects are also rumored to be playing, but I can not confirm this. Puerto Rico Paradisus Gets a Name Change

If you are considering the Para disus Resort at Cocoa Beach, Puerto Rico as your base for your vacation, you should make a note that as of May 1, 2007, the hotel will no longer be known as the Paradisus and will no loger be an ‘all inclusive resort’. The Paradisus resort will now be known as the Grand Melia Puerto Rico. The hotel still plans to offer some meal plans, but the resort will not be packaged as an ‘all inclusive’ resort. Puerto Rico Air Show This Weekend

It’s labeled as the ‘Puerto Rico Air Extravaganza’ and it is happening tomorrow and Sunday the 28th and 29th April, 2007 at the international airport Rafael Hernandez in Aguadilla. Aguadilla is on the north-west coast of Puerto Rico and is about a 90 - 120 minutes drive from San Juan. I have not been able to find many details about the air show, but according to El Nuevo Dia (one of the local papers in Puerto Rico) there will be a static show of aircraft as well as air displays. The annual Puerto Rico Heine ken Jazzfest will be taking place at the Tito Puente Amphitheater in Old San Juan between May 31 and June 3. Official Bon Bon Jovi in Puerto Rico

I reported on April 19 that Bon Jovi would be here in Puerto Rico . Well today it looks like this is official, well as official as it can be. The local radio station ‘Alpha Rock 105.7′ has today announced that Bon Jovi will be playing here in Puerto Rico on June 8, 2007. According to Alpha Rock, tickets will be available through Ticketpop. I have just checked there site and there is no news regarding tickets and there is still no news on the official Bon Jovi site. The forums however are still stating that Bon Jovi will be playing in Puerto Rico on June 8. As soon as I know more, I will let you know.

As of Tuesday April 23, 2007 the people of Puerto Rico now have four political parties to choose from at the next election. The Puerto Ricans for Puerto Rico Part y obtained the required signatures of 5% of the eligible voters of Puerto Rico. This is the first time that a new party has qualified in Puerto Rico since 1984. I stumbled on this video today. It shows a great view of Paseo La Prince sa in San Juan , Puerto Rico . The quality of the video is great and the images that you will see, will make you want to see this really beautiful walk in Old San Juan. I would recommend that you try to go here on a weekend, maybe late afternoon or early evening, as you may also get to experience local artists performing. Even if there are no performances, you will love the walk. Source

I stumbled on this site early this morning and thought it was worth a mention here. The site is about a group of kayakers who are planning to circumnavigate the islands of Puerto Rico, Culebra and Vieques in August 2007. They will be using sea kayaks for the trip and will be detail there adventure on their site. I do not know if any one else has circumnavigated the islands using sea kayaks, but even if this group is not first, it is still a cool adventure. So why use the title ‘Chasing the Ana’? (more…)

The exhibition which continues until June 3, 2007 shows almost 100 works that span fifty years. The other day I was in the Monteheidra Mall in the San Juan suburbs, and had lunch at Johnny Rocket s. For those of you that are unfamiliar with Johnny Rockets , it is an international chain of retro diners that serves all-American favorites including hamburgers, hand-dipped shakes and malts, as well as deserts. Heavy Rain Yesterday in Puerto Rico

It looks like almost 3.2 inches of rain fell yesterday (Sunday April 22) and I know because I was drining in it and it was not fun. This brings the total for the month of April to 5.5 inches, which is above average according to ‘Weather Underground’ which states the average is around 2.5 inches. We still have a few inches to go to beat last years total of 7.3 inches (hopefully we will not beat it). Unfortunately, the forcast for the rest of the week, does not look that promising. (more…)

Flash Floods in Puerto Rico Apr 22

Well, we just got back from being caught in the heavy storm that has just dumped a lot of rain in the Guaynabo, Trujillo Alto and San Juan area. The rain was so heavy that flash flood warnings have been posted for Bayamon, Guaynabo, Trujillo Alto and San Juan and having been out in the storm, I would have to say that a lot of rain came down in a short period. Da House Hotel in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico

This newly opened hotel was featured recently in the Frugal Traveler series of the New York Times, as a budget hotel for those that want to be in the heart of Old San Juan . Low Cost Airlines to Puerto Rico are they Cheaper?

Having just done a quick search on the internet for low cost airlines that fly from New York to Puerto Rico , I could only locate 2; JetBlue and Spirit Airlines . Both Jet Blue and Spirit Airlines run a limited service to Puerto Rico with only one or two flights daily. You may or may not want to skip a visit to Ponce this weekend April 20-22. From all accounts Ponce will be very busy and probably very crazy this weekend, as thousands of students gather in Ponce to take part and watch the Interuniversity Athletic League (LAI). According to the Weather Channel, this weekend’s weather here in Puerto Rico is going to include scattered thunderstorms. It looks like all parts of the island will see some scattered thunderstorms on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
