Pacaya Volcano, Antigua, Guatemala
2007-06-13 21:07:00 Guatemala has a lot of volcanos. Active ones.Pacaya Volcano in Antigua is pretty impressive. The hike up is taxing -- there are horses that will gladly huff and puff you up instead of you doing the huffing and puffing. I'm a wimp -- I took "Tamarinda" who seemed to have made the uphill trek more than once. I figured living with "horse-butt" for a day was better than total exhaustion. The horses don't go all the way up, there is still about a 20-30 minute hike through the lava fields. I'm not kidding when I say lava fields, there were lava flows the day I was there and some brave souls were actually roasting marshmellows on sticks in the heat. The sticks never made it either, that lava is blazingly, unbearably hot. The soles of shoes were melting. To get within mere inches of flowing lava is a lifetime experience. I'm not sure where else in the world you can get this close to Mother Nature without having fences and "Stay Back Hot Lava" signs. Here, there are none -- if you fall i... Lake Atitlan, Solola, Guatemala
2007-06-08 22:24:00 I know this is a blog on Vancouver. My creative dry spell made me hop on a plane for parts of the world I have not seen or experienced yet. Well, life just keeps taking all of these interesting twists and turns, and finally I just accept holding on the for ride and not trying to change things. This is an incredible part of the world on a lake called Atitlan.Solola is the "department" that Lake Atitlan is located in. A department is like our Canadian provinces.I haven't gotten to see all the villages yet. Most are from the Mayan days. Amazing culture that I'm still taking in. You have to leave your North American senses behind and just let all of this slowly seep into your pours ... some people come here and never leave. I am having a hard time putting all of this into words -- so for now I will let the camera make up for that. With all this raw nature, I think the creative dry spell might be getting some rain. The Thinking Blogger Award
2007-05-27 06:53:00 I've been going through a creative dry spell lately. No idea why or how it sneaks up on you and robs you of "the touch."I think passion will pull me through this. So as I come to terms with being human and not perfect, I receive this very nice award, The Thinking Blogger Award . Wow ... I am honoured. The Thinking Blogger was started by Ilker Yodas at The Thinking Blog, a pretty kewl site itself. The award was passed to me by Shebert from Ghosts in the Machine, another great site I enjoy stopping by and reading some thought provoking articles. It's called a meme -- something I had to look up, so that got me thinking.I have read so many great blogs lately, so where to start. Well, I don't really have to start, it's already been started. I just have to narrow all the ones I love reading down to 5. And hopefully the snowball rolls downhill and anyone I miss can be caught up further along. Who said blogging was dull?!In nominating these 5* blogs, I want to make it clear that they are ...
Colony Farm Regional Park Community Gardens, Coquitlam, BC, Canada
More articles from this author:2007-05-24 06:14:00 I needed to get out in the sunshine to get my sense of being back yesterday. I'm not sure where that sense goes ... maybe it takes a nice vacation to somewhere with white sandy beaches and turquoise water. Shame it never asks me to pack a bag and come along. Apparently we need to have a talk about that.I wandered around the community gardens at Colony Farm Regional Park early enough in the morning to catch the dew on the plants. I was amazed ... that gaping thing I do.I just wanted to absorb this infusion of well being and not spend the time setting up cameras and lenses and all the geegads that go along with it. The colours are brighter than life, and they are proud of it. The red on the just-opening poppies is almost too much to believe is true. A richness beyond any wealth, a beauty beyond words or a camera capture. The place is alive right now with nesting swallows and the sound of meadowlarks. I think this is where the idea of an Eden came from. It even smells like life. Sweet ... More About: Community , Canada , Gardens 1, 2 |
