Swim with the Stars in the Vieques Biobay
2008-04-02 21:09:00
Let me just start with this: In my opinion, the Vieques biobay is so much better than the Fajardo biobay. I have visited all 3 biobays in Puerto Rico, and Mosquito Bay in Vieques really out-glows all of them, hands down. It is really an experience you need to have, even if you have ...

Best Night to Do the Biobay Depends on the Moon
2008-03-19 02:15:00
When you visit Puerto Rico, one of the must-do things is a trip to one of our bioluminescent bays (or bio-bays). Whether you go to Laguna Grande in Fajardo, Mosquito Bay in Vieques, or La Parguera in Lajas, you're sure to have an experience that you will never forget. The health of the biobays is measured by the number of dinoflagellates per unit of water. That measure translates into how "bright" the bay will be. Mosquito Bay is the most healthy. La Parguera is the least healthy. The Department of Natural Resources has taken steps to maintain and improve the health of Laguna Grande. In any case, the biobay is best experienced on a cloudy or moonless night. While we can't predict if there will be clouds, we can do a pretty good job of predicting the phase of the moon and the time the moon rises. Those are the main two factors that come into play. In general, it's best to avoid the 5 to 8 nights prior to the full moon. The better bio-bay tour operators will be able to tel...

We visited the Zoo in Mayaguez recently and found this little girl "playing" with a lioness. I don’t think the lioness was playing! I guess this is exactly why the safety glass is over 1" thick.

Discover the City of Ponce via Trolley
2008-01-09 15:55:00
I enjoy visiting Ponce because it is an old city that has a lot to offer. But the city of Ponce is spread out over a large area, so walking around the city to see everything can be overwhelming for a first-time visitor. Luckily, Ponce offers a trolley tour that takes you around the city and shows you some of its major attractions. These tours have changed over the years, but they still offer a great way to see some of the highlights. Before we get into this too far, let me explain something … Ponce has two trolleys: one that tours around the city, and another that provides transportation from the city to the waterfront. This article is about the first one - the one that takes you on a tour of the city. On a recent visit to Ponce, we took the trolley tour and really enjoyed ourselves. (more…)
