The Legend of Marilyn Monroe
2007-11-13 00:00:00 A documentary about the life and career of 1950s sex symbol Marilyn Monroe , narrated by director John Huston (who worked with her on "The Misfits"). Included are interviews with friends, cast and crew who worked with her and others who knew her, clips from her films and some scenes that were cut from her earliest movies and not seen for many years.Marilyn Monroe (born Norma Jeane Mortenson; June 1, 1926 ? August 5, 1962), was a Golden Globe award winning American actress, model and sex symbol. She was known for her comedic skills and screen presence and became one of the most popular movie stars of the 1950s and early 1960s. Over 40 years after her death Forbes.com compiled a survey titled "Highest-Earning Dead Celebrities," which compared the money the celebrities' estates earn annually from sales. Monroe ranked seventh, the only woman in the top 13, with earnings of more than $8 million a year. Because of a lack of evidence, her death was classified as "probable suicide", and not... Sword of Lancelot, The Real Bruce Lee and Weapons of Death
2007-11-11 00:00:00 Today we bring you three films.Sword of Lancelot, The Real Bruce Lee and Weapons of Death .Lancelot and Guinevere (also known as Sword of Lancelot) is a 1963 film starring Cornel Wilde and Jean Wallace.Lancelot and Guinevere, a lesser-known version of the Camelot legend, also known as Sword of Lancelot, is a work almost solely made by Cornel Wilde, who co-produces, directs and plays Lancelot. Lancelot is King Arthur's most valued Knight of the Round Table and a paragon of courage and virtue. Things change, however, when he falls for Guinevere (Wallace, Wilde's wife at the time), bride of Arthur (Brian Aherne, who has essayed this character more than once, e.g. in 1954's Prince Valiant), and she for him.Made ten years after Richard Thorpe's film Knights of the Round Table, the illicit romance this time is portrayed as a more intimate affair, and the sword fights have a more menacing reality (Wilde was an excellent fencer). A sub-plot concerns Arthur's effort to forestall a challe... More About: Bruce Lee
Akira Kurosawa Films
2007-11-09 00:00:00 Akira Kurosawa (Ky?jitai: ?? ?, Shinjitai: ?? ?, Kurosawa Akira, 23 March 1910 ? 6 September 1998) was a prominent Japanese film director, film producer, and screenwriter. His first credited film (Sanshiro Sugata) was released in 1943; his last (Madadayo) in 1993. His many awards include the Légion d'Honneur and an Oscar for Lifetime Achievement.Kurosawa had a distinctive cinematic technique, which he had developed by the 1950s, and which gave his films a unique look. He liked using telephoto lenses for the way they flattened the frame and also because he believed that placing cameras farther away from his actors produced better performances. He also liked using multiple cameras, which allowed him to shoot an action scene from different angles. Another Kurosawa trademark was the use of weather elements to heighten mood: for example the heavy rain in the opening scene of Rashomon, and the final battle in Seven Samurai, the intense heat in Stray Dog, the cold wind in Yojimbo, the sno... Rhythm N' Notes Review
2007-11-09 00:00:00 Rhythm N' Notes is a rhythm training tool for the Nintendo DS and is advertised as being perfect for new and advanced musicians. Since I have no musical experience at all, I guess I would qualify as a new musician. Of the two portions of the game, I found the Rhythm one to be the more enjoyable. My wife will attest that I have no rhythm, but I did find that after practicing the rhythm training portion I could more easily count beats. Perhaps the reason I found the rhythm mode to be the more enjoyable was that it is reminiscent of Donkey Konga. The Notes portion of Rhythm N' Notes was more difficult for me. Being able to match notes to the notes previously played seemed to be nothing but guesswork. Perhaps a real musician with experience in reading music and music theory would find this beneficial or even fun, but I did not. Even with using the free play mode before the tests, I found it to more of a test of memorization skills than of musical knowledge. In conclusio... More About: Review , Rhythm
Beowulf
2007-11-08 00:00:00 Beowulf is an Old English heroic epic poem of anonymous authorship from around 700 AD. Its creation is typically assigned by scholars either to the period 700?750 AD, or to the time of composition of the only manuscript, circa 1010. At 3183 lines, it is notable for its length. The poem is untitled in the manuscript, but has been known as Beowulf since the early 19th century. As the single major surviving work of Anglo-Saxon heroic poetry, the work?in spite of dealing primarily with Danish and Swedish events?has risen to such prominence that it has been described as "England's national epic." A source of much study, the poem was a central inspiration for J.R.R. Tolkien, whose academic career was built around its analysis and explication. In the poem, Beowulf, a hero of the Geats, battles three antagonists: Grendel, who is attacking the Danish mead hall called Heorot and its inhabitants; Grendel's mother; and, later in life after returning to Geatland (modern Sweden) and becoming a Ki... Star Wreck in the Pirkinning, now on the Nintendo DS
2007-11-07 00:00:00 Star Wreck : In the Pirkinning is a 2005 motion picture produced by five friends in a two-room flat with a small budget and the support of a few hundred fans and dozens of acquaintances. Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning is the seventh production in the Star Wreck movie series, the first of professional quality and feature length. It is a dark science fiction comedy about domination of the world and the universe, and a parody of the Star Trek and Babylon 5 universes.Although the movie is a fan film at heart, many critics have favourably compared it with typical professionally produced science fiction films, in part because of the quality of the special effects and overall production.Download Star Wreck in the Pirkinning digg_url = 'http://digg.com/movies/Star_Wreck_In_The _Pirkinning_now_on_the_Nintendo _DS'; More About: Star , Nintendo Ds
Dementium: The Ward Review
2007-11-07 00:00:00 From the title screen onwards Dementium sets the stage with an atmosphere that is very creepy. I found the tutorial sufficiently prepared me for the game without really removing the player from the game world that it would be distracting. In fact the controls are so well laid out that the user interface became 'transparent' in no time. With headphones it is amazing to just move around and listen to the environment sounds (like rain) moving from one side of your audible perception to another.. Movement is controlled with the thumb pad, while looking around and turning is controlled with the stylus, much like a mouse would be used on a similar title on the PC. I have to say though, that I am finding the stylus to be preferred over the standard mouse type of control. There are little things about the controls that show the care Renegade Kid developers of Dementium really put into the game. One such example is when you are looking around. When you relieve pressure or stop moving t... More About: Review , Ward

The Impossible Kid
2007-11-07 00:00:00 "The Impossible Kid" is a kung fu movie made in 1982, staring filipino actor, Weng Weng, where he is an agent code named 00. Weng Weng is now working for the Manila branch of Interpol. The Chief sends him in the pursuit of Mr X , an arch villian with a white sock on his head (who looks suspiciously like a member of the Ku Klux Klan), who is holding the Philippines to ransom. Two businessmen, Maolo and Simeon, pay the demands but Weng Weng suspects foul play and goes deep undercover to reveal the identity of Mr X. This movie is a sequel to "For Y?ur Height Only", which was Weng Weng's first movie. The fighting scenes throughout this movie can be best described as unlikely, since Weng Weng is only 2 foot 9 inches, and he can beat up, knock down, and or hold down full grown men.For those who are not familiar with Weng Weng, here is a bit of information on him, and his career.Weng Weng (September 7, 1957 ? August 29, 1992) was a Filipino actor and martial artist. He was born in Baclara...

Cyrano de Bergerac
2007-11-03 00:00:00 Note: My wife and I just returned from seeing the new Steve Carell film Dan In Real Life, which has some similarities to Cyrano de Berg erac. In honor of such a surprisingly good romantic comedy drama type movie, we present you with Cyrano de Bergerac. 1950 black-and-white film based on the 1897 play by Edmond Rostand. It was produced by Stanley Kramer, directed by Michael Gordon and starred José Ferrer as Cyrano de Bergerac, Mala Powers as Roxane, and William Prince as Christian de Neuvillette. It was the first film version of Rostand's play in English.José Ferrer won an Academy Award for his portrayal of de Bergerac, and Mala Powers was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for her portrayal of Roxane. The film was made on a low budget, because its makers felt that a play in verse would not attract a large box office (they turned out to be right). The low budget is evident in the fact that the sets are not very elaborate, and whatever is missing is deliberately obscured by shadows,... More About: Gera

Spooks Run Wild
2007-11-01 00:00:00 Spooks Run Wild is a 1941 film and the seventh film in the East Side Kids series, starring Bela Lugosi, Leo Gorcey, Huntz Hall, and Bobby Jordan. Released in 1941, it was directed by Phil Rosen, in his first and only outing in the series.Since the series inception in 1940, the East Side Kids films had been, for the most part, a well balanced mix between comedy, drama, and social relevance. Following Huntz Hall's introduction into the series with 1941's Bowery Blitzkrieg, which made famous the Gorcey/Hall banter, producer Sam Katzman decided that the seventh film in the series would not only be a change of pace, but, would also be one of the biggest East Side Kids extravaganzas yet. With that in mind, Katzman enlisted the screen writing team of Carl Foreman and Charles R. Marion to pen the screenplay, which would feature Monogram's two most popular draws for the first time together on screen: Bela Lugosi and the East Side Kids.At the last minute, with Bowery Blitzkrieg director Wal... Phanton Ship, AKA The Mystery of the Marie Celeste
2007-11-01 00:00:00 The Myst ery of the Marie Celeste (a.k.a. The Phantom Ship ) (1935) is one of the early films from Hammer Film Productions and was directed by Denison Clift. The leading actor is Bela Lugosi. The action is the basis the history of the Marie Celeste (actually Mary Celeste). The ship was found floating near Portugal in 1872 without a crew. The film tries for a rather unspectacular explanation of the events around the well-known spirit ship, without supernatural occurrences. About the actual ship The Mary Celeste was a brigantine found in the Atlantic Ocean unmanned and under full sail heading towards the Strait of Gibraltar in 1872. The fate of the crew is the subject of much speculation: theories range from alcoholic fumes to underwater earthquakes, and a large body of fictional accounts of the story. The Mary Celeste is often described as the archetypal ghost ship.On November 5, 1872, under the command of Captain Benjamin Briggs, the ship picked up a cargo of industrial alcohol ship...
