2008-04-17 00:00:00
The Gorgon is a 1964 British horror film directed by Terence Fisher for Hammer .It stars Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Barbara Shelley and Richard Pasco. The film was photographed by Michael Reeves, and designed by Bernard Robinson. For the haunting score James Bernard combined a soprano with a little-known electronic instrument called the Novachord. The film marks one of the few occasions when Hammer turned to Greek mythology for inspiration; this time it is the legend of the Gorgon that is respun for the Hammer audiences. In the rural German village of Vandorf, seven murders have been committed in the past seven years, each victim having been petrified into a stone figure. Rather than investigate it, the local authorities dismiss the murders for fear of a local legend having come true. When a local girl becomes the latest victim and her suicidal lover made the scapegoat, the brother of the condemned man decides to investigate and discovers that the cause of the petrifying deaths i...

Satsujin Ken, The Street Fighter ), literally Clash, Killer Fist!, is a Japanese martial arts film released in 1974 and produced by Toei Company Ltd.Takuma (Terry) Tsurugi is a very violent and deadly martial arts master who will commit almost any crime for money. In the opening scenes, we see him audaciously break a condemned murderer (Junjo) out of prison by impersonating a monk, then using an ancient martial arts technique called the "oxygen coma punch" that causes delayed unconsciousness. When Junjo faints while ascending the gallows, prison officials rush him to a hospital, giving Terry a chance to free him at the expense of an innocent ambulance driver and a couple of guards. However, Junjo's brother and sister, who hired him for the job, don't have enough money to pay him, and, when he finds out, he throws the brother out a high window and sells the sister into sexual slavery. The plot thickens when a wealth...

2008-03-29 00:00:00
Bleh...I guess I've caught that illness that is 'going around' around here. What a bummer. I had to actually leave work on my second day there. I may be job-hunting again soon, as they made it a point during the interview to state that they would be 'getting rid' of anyone who is absent within the first 30 days. What that means to Moon Books though, is quite less tragic. The winner of the first skin will be announced Saturday , and the contest for the next one will begin on Saturday.I have an idea, to make things easier on me, why doesn't everyone go to [link] and pick your favorite DS Lite skin to be given away during the next contest.I'm off to bed... Oh... if anyone has any job offers, email them to [email] Brandon

Be astounded by reading books about magic and illusion, on the Nintendo DS!
2008-03-05 00:00:00
Magic is a performing art that entertains an audience by creating illusions of impossible or supernatural feats, using purely natural means. These feats are called magic tricks, effects or illusions. An artist who performs magic is called a magician. Magicians are also referred to by names reflecting the type of magical effects they typically perform, such as prestidigitators, conjurors, illusionists, mentalists, ventriloquists, and escape artists, etc.The term "Magic" is etymologically derived from the Old Persian word Magi. Performances we would now recognize as conjuring have probably been practiced throughout history. The same level of ingenuity that was used to produce famous ancient deceptions such as the Trojan Horse would also have been used for entertainment, or at least for cheating in gambling games, since time immemorial. However, the profession of the illusionist gained strength only in eighteenth century, and has enjoyed several popular vogues. From 1756 to 1781, Jacob P...

2008-03-05 00:00:00
Charles Hoy Fort (6 August 1874 ? 3 May 1932) was an American writer and researcher into anomalous phenomena.Jerome Clark writes that Fort was "Essentially a satirist hugely skeptical of human beings' ? especially scientists' claims to ultimate knowledge". Clark describes Fort's writing style as a "distinctive blend of mocking humor, penetrating insight, and calculated outrageousness". Writer Colin Wilson describes Fort as "a patron of cranks", and also argues that running through Fort's work is "the feeling that no matter how honest scientists think they are, they are still influenced by various unconscious assumptions that prevent them from attaining true objectivity. Expressed in a sentence, Fort's principle goes something like this: People with a psychological need to believe in marvels are no more prejudiced and gullible than people with a psychological need not to believe in marvels." Fort's books sold well, and remain in print. Today, the term Fortean or Forteana is us...

Read about UFOs on the Nintendo DS
2008-03-03 00:00:00
An unidentified flying object, or UFO, is any real or apparent flying object that cannot be identified by the observer, especially those which remain unidentified after investigation. UFOs have been spotted in many different places around the world.Reports of unusual aerial phenomena date back to ancient times, but modern reports and first official investigations began during World War II with sightings of so-called foo fighters by Allied airplane crews and in 1946 with widespread sightings of European "ghost rockets." UFO reports became even more common after the first widely publicized United States UFO sighting, by private pilot Kenneth Arnold in the summer of 1947.Many tens of thousands of UFO reports have since been made worldwide. But many sightings may yet remain unreported, due to fear of public ridicule because of the social stigma surrounding the subject of UFOs, and because most nations lack any officially sanctioned authority to receive and evaluate UFO reports. The post ...

Discover the secrets of Atlantis on the Nintendo DS
2008-03-03 00:00:00
Atlantis is the name of a legendary island first mentioned in Plato's dialogues Timaeus and Critias. In Plato's account, Atlantis, lying "beyond the pillars of Heracles", was a naval power that conquered many parts of Western Europe and Africa 9,000 years before the time of Solon, or approximately 9500 BC. After a failed attempt to invade Athens, Atlantis sank into the ocean "in a single day and night of misfortune".As a story embedded in Plato's dialogues, Atlantis is generally seen as a myth created by Plato to illustrate his political theories. Although the function of the story of Atlantis seems clear to most scholars, they dispute whether and how much Plato's account was inspired by older traditions. Some scholars argue Plato drew upon memories of past events such as the Thera eruption or the Trojan War, while others insist that he took inspiration from contemporary events like the destruction of Helike in 373 BC or the failed Athenian invasion of Sicily in 415?413 BC.The po...

Explore the prophecies of Nostradamus on the DS
2008-03-02 00:00:00
Michel de Nostredame (14 December 1503 or 21 December 1503 ? 2 July 1566), usually Latinized to Nostradamus , was a French apothecary and reputed seer who published collections of prophecies that have since become famous world-wide. He is best known for his book Les Propheties, the first edition of which appeared in 1555. Since the publication of this book, which has rarely been out of print since his death, Nostradamus has attracted an enthusiastic following who, along with the popular press, credit him with predicting many major world events. In contrast, most academic sources maintain that the associations made between world events and Nostradamus's quatrains are largely the result of misinterpretations or mistranslations (sometimes deliberate) or else are so tenuous as to render them useless as evidence of any genuine predictive power. Moreover, none of the sources listed offers any evidence that anyone has ever interpreted any of Nostradamus's quatrains specifically enough to a...
