As you can imagine, the reviews are starting to poor in now for GTA IV and many are 10/10. Eurogamer’s contribtion matches this award, and as a British written gaming blog, I tend to like their write ups. Here is a snippet about Multiplayer that interested me: Then by pulling up your mobile phone, you can select multiplayer. Via a lobby system that allows you to form teams and check out other players’ details, you set up games that apply old norms and GTA-skewed derivatives to the game’s fabulous open world. GTA IV could break XBOX Live

GTA IV is going to big business this Tuesday. Not only is it going to sell a bucket load of units it is also a worldwide launch. This means that next Tuesday, XBOX Live could go into meltdown with the predicted server spike. Microsoft’s General Manager of LIVE Services Operations, Derek Ingalls, tells Kotaku that: …we are preparing for a spike that could be much larger than what we saw with the launches of Halo 3 and Activision’s “Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.” Last holiday we weren’t properly prepared, so we are going the extra mile with Grand Theft Auto IV… The biggest step we’ve taken is to add in more server hardware, which will expand the service’s capacity … We have actually doubled our capacity for concurrent users over the last 2 months Well time will tell as Tuesday will soon be upon us …..

Vegas patched

Kind of old news, but Rainbow Six Vegas 2 has now been patched, explains the Ubisoft forums. Follow the jump for a full list of fixes. Note though that this patch could give you THE easiest achievement to date. The update Vegas 2 achivement .. Private First Class - Achievement If you are ranked Private First Class or above, you will automatically get the achievement after the title update is complete and you load your gamer profile. So for just loading the game, you get points >>> IMPROVEMENTS <<< Custom Camo 3 Save The colour and pattern of Custom Camo 3 now saves correctly. Weapon Switch Swapping to & from Pistols are now faster in Multiplayer. Sound Loops Optimized sound bank to improve weapon firing and helicopter sound clips that loop over and over. Pings Servers now update their pings more often so that players have a more accurate value of server performance. Team Leader Respawn Modification Spawn Shield is shorter when respawning with the Leader. XP...

GTA IV: Fuzzy, clinical and system limiting

As part of the ongoing GTA IV hype (which I’m sure some are getting tired of) 1Up.com interviewed RockStar founder Sam Houser. The interview is spread over four pages, but some interesting points I found were: The XBOX 360 version looks more clinical than the soft warm fuzzy PS3 version (he prefers the PS3 version) The lack of guaranteed Hard Drive and small capacity DVD format will limit the development of things for the XBOX 360 A GTA MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online) is both very doable and attractive It makes for an interesting read, but let’s face it - who cares when in reality all we really want is just the game to play.

It was bound to happen, but as always an upcoming major games release has been leaked and is now up on the torrent sites. As proof, people have started posting gameplay videos around the net. I would imagine though that they won’t stay hosted for long, so you had better watch the example below pretty quickly before it’s removed. The quality is pretty poor, but you can see how amazing the game is looking. The end of the movie, if you sit through it all, feels like the cops have just bust into the room of the person playing the game, due to the sudden ending

POWERBRICK DOOOM Take a lesson from this hapless Yankee who stored his 360’s powerbrick in a similar place to probably 90% of the world’s other 360 gamers - by the wall, tucked away, out of sight. Quake Wars due May 30th

According to Evil Avatar, Activision have stated: The battle for Earth will be waged on retail shelves as id Software and Activision, Inc. today confirmed that Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and the PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system will begin shipping to North American retailers on May 27, 2008 and arriving on European and Australian store shelves on May 30, 2008. Some of you may not be that aware of Quake Wars and it’s gameplay, but its original stem from coop teambased multiplayer roots, and has the potenital to be huge. Keep an eye on this one.

Universal Studios Home Entertainment has announced they will release ‘Heroes : Season One’ and ‘Heroes: Season Two’ for Blu-ray on August 26th. The first season was released on DVD and HD DVD last August, and the second season will be released on Blu-ray day-and-date with the DVD release. A few weeks ago, there was rumour that gamers would have to “BUY” some weapons in EA’s upcoming FPS Battlefield: Bad Company . For some, it purley comfirmed what money whores EA were. Things have changed since then though with DICE stepping up and confirming their take on the situation: IGN: So there’s no charge for the Gold Edition guns? Karl-Magnus: No, there’s no charge for any of the guns in the game. All of the guns in the game can be achieved without purchasing them. All guns are available to everyone. However, we want to give some exclusivity to those who buy the Gold Edition. They will get the five Gold Edition weapons from Day One when they put the disc in. People that don’t buy the Gold Edition can get the five additional weapons by getting to the final rank in the game.
