Rumor: Nintendo Wii Wheel MSRP may be $10
2008-04-08 04:11:00 GoNintendo reports that the latest issue of Nintendo Power states the manufacturer's suggested retail price for the Nintendo Wii Wheel is $10. It appears that some retailers aren't taking the suggestion to heart, as Gamestop, Amazon and some other stores are selling the glorified plastic shell for $15 separetly from the game.Best Buy seems to currently be one of the only retailers we could find that had the product listed and selling for $10 (but we're sure that the Joystiq army of internet detectives can find more). We've contacted Nintendo for confirmation on what the actual MSRP of the Nintendo Wii Wheel is and will update as soon as we receive an answer. More About: Rumor , Merchandising
Incredible Hulk movie game screens
2008-04-08 03:10:00 You might be asking yourself, "what's with the headline?" Well, what more is there to say about these screens of the upcoming Incredible Hulk movie-game other than The Hulk is in them. They don't look especially good and considering the team that brought us Ultimate Destruction is busy doing their own thing and back catalog of developer Edge of Reality consists of the Over the Hedge and Shark Tale game adaptations, we're definitely sticking with the comment that these screens have The Hulk in them. New PS3 ads are scary but gorgeous at the same time
2008-04-07 17:12:00 It's a shame that these Dali-inspired adverts, made by the Chilean advertising agency BBDO Chile, probably won't be put into circulation outside of South America. But that's also a good thing. We can't help but feel that while these images (second one after the break) look absolutely stunning, there's also something innately unsettling about them. Regardless, they certainly portray the feel of the PS3 and if you saw them on a billboard, it would be hard not to stop and take notice.[Via onAXIS] More About: Time , Scary , Gorgeous
Quake 3 up for motion-sensing, wireless network play on iPod touch
2008-04-07 17:11:00 This has got to be the biggest gaming event of the year, so far atleast. Finally we have video proof along to support the latest Apple claims that it has figured out a way to bring Quake 3 to the iPod touch making it compatible with portable LAN party play. The first-person shooter lets you move characters around using the deviceŽs built-in accelerometer and you shoot by tapping the screen, which looks like it could really suck all the spontaneity out of the entire game. Might be worth a try for the iPod Touch/iPhone next-gen-ness if not for the love of the game! Watch some dude enjoy the cool new app on his touch while you wait to get yours. Worldwide PS3 releases for the week of April 6th
2008-04-06 21:20:00 Yawn. Nothing to see here. This is what they call the "calm before the storm." Even if the storm is three weeks away, publishers seem to be steering clear of April in pretty much its entirety. Metal Gear Solid 5 will not be made by Hideo Kojima
2008-04-06 21:12:00 Konami?s upcoming Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots for the PlayStation 3 (due June 12) is the latest stealth game in a series that has been going strong for the last 20 years. In an interview with Hideo Kojima, creator of the series, he was asked if this was the last game in the series and even if he may not be making another one himself, he said he?d produce more spin-off PSP handheld games and hinted that a Metal Gear Solid 5 sequel might be a possibility without him. Question: Obviously, the first question that?s on everyone?s mind is: Why exactly did you feel this was the right time to end the Metal Gear Solid series? Hideo Kojima answers: I was supposed to end this in MGS2, you know, originally (laughs). And then I created MGS3, and I said, ?Okay, this is the final one. It?s over.? But people said, ?No? there?s still not enough answers (in that game)!? As a game design, the story was almost complete in MGS1, 2 and 3, or so I initially thought. But of course, there were ... Sony: 80GB PS3 Demand Exceeded Expectations
2008-04-06 18:38:00 In a surprising twist of events, Sony America VP of marketing Scott Steiberg revealed in an interview that the company underestimated the demand for the 80GB PS3 model, saying that $499 didn't seem "that big of a deal" to consumers. He cites the additional hard disk space and backwards compatibility with PS2 and PS1 games being the driving factor behind the 80GB model, which has since been phased out and replaced with the cheaper 40GB model. The company hopes on generating "mass market appeal" by marketing the upcoming Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle and the DualShock 3 which are coming out soon. More About: Expectations , Demand

Nintendo nonresponsive to Greenpeace
2008-04-05 02:44:00 In an interview with Gamasutra, Greenpeace 's Zeina Al-Hajj discussed the relative greenness of the major consoles and their companies. Nintendo still manages to rate below Sony and Microsoft despite having a console that uses far less electricity and standard (and thus more easily recyclable) parts. The reason? Nintendo has no stated policy about hardware recycling. Both Sony and Microsoft have made efforts in that area, but Nintendo has said absolutely nothing about the disposal of old consoles. "What is available right now," Al-Hajj said, "is that Nintendo is committed to the environment, so they recycle in their offices. Okay. Good work guys, but that's not the issue. The issue is the responsibility to their product."Nintendo is the only console manufacturer out of the three not to engage in communication with Greenpeace. Al-Hajj said that they have attempted conversation with the company multiple times, while both Sony and Microsoft are already in talks. We know that the first ... More About: News

Comic Con '08 brings first glimpse of Gears of War 2
2008-04-02 01:47:00 Thanks to a nifty and well versed press release, today we learn that this year's Comic Con (which will go down April 18th through the 20th) will get an additional injection of video game content with Gears of War 2 taking center stage.Scheduled to take the floor at this month's New York Comic Con, Epic's Michael Capps and GoW2 script writer Joshua Ortega will talk about Gears' origin, its success and give attendees a "glimpse into this year's upcoming Gears of War 2". Whether or not that means actual in-game GoW2 footage or just talking bits, we aren't sure. But our fingers are crossed in hopes that we get a GoW2 video tease come April 18th. We're sure Capps won't let us down. More About: News , Comic-Con , Glimpse
More Blu-ray 360 Rumors
2008-04-02 01:10:00 It?s hard to do internet news today. Everyone?s pulling pranks all over the internet. Whether it?s the Postal cat silencer, the Diablo Loot Pinata or this wonderful product which begs someone to really create it for Wiiware, there?s a whole lot of jokes out there ready to trip up the writer who takes things a little too seriously. One rumor has surfaced that begs consumption with that perennial grain of salt, not because it?s humorous, but because we?ve heard it denied rather strongly thus far. After the death of HD-DVD many assumed that Microsoft would be doing everything they could to get Blu-ray addons for the Xbox 360 . Following some reports that talks had begun, MS representatives came out and put a kaibosh on those rumors, stating that the company was going to be focusing in on downloadable media through the Xbox Live Marketplace. It seems that according to industry sources Lite-On is developing Blu-ray drives for the Xbox 360. The report on the website is slightly confusing a... More About: Rumors
Solving the Mystery of PS3's Mandatory Installs
2008-04-02 00:54:00 Lately, some PlayStation 3 games have been following a disturbing trend: Mandatory hard-drive install procedures that can take nearly half an hour and suck up around 5 GB of your precious disk space. Recent games like Devil May Cry 4, Lost: Via Domus, and even Sony's own Hot Shots Golf require installation before the game can be played. To get to the bottom of this mystery, MTV reporter Patrick Klepek called the publishers in question... and was stonewalled at every attempt. But he did get an answer on background: It has to do with differences in the ways Blu-Ray and DVD read data. Blu-Ray discs might store much more data than a DVD, but while a DVD laser can read data at different speeds, Blu-Ray can only do it at one speed. Thus, if data optimized for DVD is put onto a Blu-Ray, monstrous loading times can result. To avoid this, developers must come up with ways of getting around this, one of them being installing a few gigs of data to the hard drive for superfast access... More About: Mystery
Me and Wii Fit: One Month Later
2008-03-31 23:36:00 I've been using Wii Fit for a little over a month now, and thought you'd want to hear about my progress. All in all, I'm quite impressed with Nintendo's exercise software, especially the Balance Board. Wii Fit is certainly not the first example, even in recent times, of a product that attempts to turn exercise into a videogame. But it's probably the most successful one, and a lot of that is thanks to the controller. Since the Board can determine quite accurately how well you are performing a set of standard exercises, the feedback that you get from the game is meaningful. By turning exercise into a game, Wii Fit plays on the same sort of impulses and positive feedback loops that make videogames compelling.Although I haven't been playing Wii Fit every day, it's successfully gotten me into the frame of mind where I try to exercise every day. For example, I did half an hour of Wii Fit yesterday morning, but the day before, with less time on my hands, I went out and ran... More About: Month

Gears of War Movie Set for 2010
2008-03-31 21:03:00 Nothing gets gamers crossing their thumbs more than the announcement of another video game movie. Mostly there?s collective mutterings of ?please don?t let Uwe Boll touch this? along with fervent hopes for success or adequacy depending on people?s level of optimism. Get your digits ready because there?s a date set for the Gears of War movie in the works. So far the only names attached to the project are Stuart Beattie who was a writer for the first ?Pirates of the Carribean? film and of course Cliff Bleszinski, the game?s creator. The project is currently sans developer after reports that Len Wiseman (director of the newest Die Hard film) won?t be working on the project. More About: News , Movie
Sony Dismisses Appeal of Extra GTA IV Content
2008-03-31 20:36:00 Though Microsoft would have you believe that its exclusive downloadable content for GTA IV makes the Xbox 360 version more appealing, Sony 's Scott Steinberg says it's just not that big a deal. The way Steinberg sees it, GTA IV is so enormous that most players will never feel the need for any additional content. "I personally don't think there's going to be a huge percentage of folks who jump into downloadable content for another price when they're still playing through the core product," he told GameDaily. So, despite the fact that Microsoft "spent the GNP of several small Latin American countries" for the exclusive content, "I think most people will have that Grand Theft Auto experience on the PS3, day and date, same core game shipping on the 360," said Steinberg. Steinberg is spot on when he says that the core version of GTA IV will have more than enough content to keep players happily busy for a long time, but I think he's kidding himself if he believes that th... MTV 'dates' upcoming PSN games
2008-03-31 17:00:00 MTV's Stephen Totilo has recently had his hands on with all the big first-party PSN games that will be hitting within the next few months. His thoughts on each title are generally very positive, which is great now that we know that they're all coming out between now and June. Totilo lists each of the games (Echochome, Elefunk, PixelJunk Monsters: Encore and WipEout HD) along with a vague release date. While May will be the busiest month of the quarter, April will kick things off with (as well as a Store redesign) PixelJunk Monsters: Encore, an expansion pack for the well received tower defense game, which is pegged for the latter part of the month. Echochrome and Elefunk will keep May interesting until WipEout HD finally gets a release in "late May, or early June".Interestingly, it seems that Echochrome will receive two releases - one for PS3 and one for PSP. Each will be entirely different to the other in terms of level layout, but both will be available for download from the PSN ... More About: Games , Dates , Upcoming
