Microsoft drops 360's HD DVD player

HD DVD is dead! Long Live HD DVD! The last backers of Toshiba's HD DVD format are jumping ship in the wake of the electronics company backing out of the format wars. In a statement on Microsoft 's Gamerscore Blog, the Xbox 360 maker said it would no longer be manufacturing its HD DVD peripheral, though it will continue providing warranty support for all add-ons purchased by console owners."As a result of recent decisions made by Toshiba, Hollywood studios, and retailers, Microsoft plans to withdraw from HD DVD," Microsoft said in its statement. Sony reports record profits as PS3 losses shrink

Japan's Sony Corp. said Thursday that its third-quarter net profit jumped by 25 percent to a record high as its video game division finally returned to the black. Alone in the Dark: Update

I don't know how many of you actually remember the original Alone in the Dark game. I remember playing it on my 486 DX 4, with 8mb of RAM, a 250 mb hard drive and a 2x cd-rom drive, a 8bit adlib card...oh and a 14" black and white monitor :PYep...those were the good old days. Sigh..where has simplicity gone?? Now Fast Forward a decade and a half later and we're looking at the next gen of Alone on the Dark. This has truly been a series which has scared the crap out of me every single time.Atari recently delayed Alone in the Dark's release date to May of this year, which will hopefully give developer Eden Studios the time it needs to squash the handful of bugs that were reported by gamespot. Stay tuned for impressions of a more complete build in the coming months.Frankly I'm not very impressed by the trailer above. I love sightseeing tours. Why? Because, that is the most organized and hassle free form of traveling! yay!! Rejoice xbox 360 users!! Capcom announced on their official blog today that the Devil May Cry 4 demo will arrive this Thursday on Xbox Live Marketplace, a full week ahead of the rumored January 31 date. The demo will allow gamers the chance to try out Nero and take part in a trademark boss battle. And ... um ... that's about it. Hmmm ... probably should have put some filler between those first two sentences. Oh wait, there are more details! The demo takes place in the Fortuna city level, featuring snowy mountains and a port area. Also, we have it on good authority that the demo can also be enjoyed in high definition. We can't wait.

Toshiba's got new goodies coming for the folks with their attention focused on CES 2008 these days and among them, the famous company included the successor to the acclaimed HD TV. This new TV brings next-gen to the world of high-tech electronics by incorporating the PS3's Cell processor. This uber chip was develop by Toshiba, in partnership with Sony and IBM and now it's being used in a great flat-panel TV. This TV produced by Toshiba uses the processing power to display up to 48 thumbnail versions of the available TV programs. Ever since the launch of Xbox Live Arcade, one of the most requested games for the service has been a port of Rare's highly-acclaimed N64 shooter GoldenEye 007. Fanboys everywhere drool at the possibility of playing the game online, particularly if upgraded graphics and new features are part of the package.Apparently the game was more than just a pipe dream at one point, at least according to a 1UP report. According to the site and sister mag EGM, a port was actually in development for Xbox 360 for several months before being quietly canceled. The Xbox Live Arcade version would've featured the same graphics, maps, and weapons, but would've added online multiplayer into the mix while losing a few key characters due to licensing issues with the actors that played them.According to the site's source, the game was actually about two months away from completion, but then canceled because Microsoft and Nintendo couldn't come to terms on how to divide up the money.
