Preview: Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare
2007-08-30 00:21:00
Testing out a game is a tedious yet highly essential part of development, but what better way is there than to utilise the huge user-base of Xbox Live and employ the eager players act as free testers? And we’re not complaining either, as it means we get to play a game months before its release. Bungie did it with Halo 3 and that was met with huge applause, and now Infinity Ward have done the

This Weeks Releases: Matrix Edition
2007-05-18 14:40:00
Pretty sparse week in terms of game releases. Nothing very interesting or must-have. PS3 finally gets its release of Spiderman 3, Harvest Moon hits the PSP and a new motorbike game, SBK-07, on PS2 and PSP.If you have a Xbox 360, then you should consider getting yourself an American Silver Live account and download Aegis Wings, a free Live Arcade game developed by some Microsoft interns. Its a shooter, much like R-Type and well worth a play.In terms of movies, this week is pretty big for HD-DVD owners, as there are quite a few excellent releases on the format, namely The Matrix trilogy, Babel, Flags of Our Fathers, Letters from Iwo Jima (the latter two also released on BluRay). Also released on BluRay are both Pirates of the Caribbean movies, both getting great reviews on quality. Also hitting the Cinema is Zodiac, from director of Fight Club and Se7en and starring Robert Downey Jr. Another interesting release is Black Snake Moan starring Samuel L. Jackson, and should be worth a watch...

PAIN on PS3
2007-05-17 14:11:00
Unvieled at Sony's Gamer Day is a new game for PS3, suitably titled PAIN, currently being developed by Idol Minds, the guys who brought us Coolboarders, and is due out before Christmas this year.It has one simple premise, using a giant slingshot, you have to catapult your character around the city, with the aim of causing as much damage to yourself and your surroundings. It sounds like Burnout, sans the cars.Interestingly, the game will be released on the PSN, and includes various game modes including 'Spank the Monkey', 'Mime Toss', as well as various multiplayer modes, both co-operative and competitive. The game will also make use of the PS3 hard-drive, by allowing you to save replays of your carnage and distribute them to your friends allowing them to rank your destruction and comment on how juvenile you are.

Halo 3 Beta Now Available (finally!)
2007-05-17 09:52:00
The eagerly awaited Halo 3 Beta has finally been unleashed for all Crackdown owners to download. Its original release date on Wednesday at 1PM (BST) was delayed because of some unforeseen circumstances, the internet community was, as you may expect, up in arms in fury and anger over the mishap, because not only was this Beta so hyped up, but people actually took days of work to play it, and one user on the Bungie forums even missed his sons birth because of the Beta, but was instead met with the greyed out Halo 3 Beta download bar in Crackdown for the whole day. However, to make up for the delay, Microsoft have extended the duration of the Beta by four (yes that's 4) days, so the new expiry date is now June 11th at 7:00AMThe Beta itself includes three maps, High Ground, Snowbound and Valhalla, and will give you a taste of what to expect from the multiplayer side of the game.So head over and load up your copy of Crackdown and download! As this will probably be the only chance you'll ...

Tony Hawk's Proving Ground
2007-05-16 00:43:00
Another year, and another Tony Hawk's release. This time suitably titled Proving Ground , as the game is based on making your own skating legacy through the different choices you make. Players define their story, character and style by the decision they make in the game and by the way they skate, from Philadelphia to Baltimore and Washington DC.Whats more interesting is the online aspect of the game, which developers say is 'seamlessly integrated' with the single player game, and players can hang out in the fully customisable 'Skate Lounge'. So maybe we're looking at a Test-Drive Unlimited style online mechanism, which would be a great idea if implemented correctly. Also of note is the reintroduction of video replays, not seen since the earlier days of the franchise, but this time brought back with some added oomph, in the form of the fully-fledged video editor, allowing players to control the camera in the video shoots, and use visual effects to create 'epic skate videos'.Pr...
