360 HD-DVD Update

Almost a week after the 360 got the Spring update, Microsoft release one for the HD-DVD, which doesn't really offer anything fancy or anything, just a few settings to deal with audio which users found a bit too quiet, as well as support for 1080p through HDMI (for the Elite) as well as a few other functionality fixes. Tony Hawk's Proving Ground

Another year, and another Tony Hawk's release. This time suitably titled Proving Ground , as the game is based on making your own skating legacy through the different choices you make. Players define their story, character and style by the decision they make in the game and by the way they skate, from Philadelphia to Baltimore and Washington DC.Whats more interesting is the online aspect of the game, which developers say is 'seamlessly integrated' with the single player game, and players can hang out in the fully customisable 'Skate Lounge'. So maybe we're looking at a Test-Drive Unlimited style online mechanism, which would be a great idea if implemented correctly.Also of note is the reintroduction of video replays, not seen since the earlier days of the franchise, but this time brought back with some added oomph, in the form of the fully-fledged video editor, allowing players to control the camera in the video shoots, and use visual effects to create 'epic skate videos'.Pr...

The demo for this highly anticipated racer finally hit on Thursday morning and after an agonising wait for the download to complete, I finally got to sample this game. Microsoft released the Spring update for the 360 today, which includes few cool new features. The next time you sign in to Xbox Live, you will be asked to download the update. A few of the main features included in the update include:Live Messenger integrationNew achievement pop-up with name and score valueNew Marketplace blade places content all in one placeFriends playing now feature at Xbox LIVE ArcadeConsole can be set to turn off after downloads to save energyFrom what I sampled after the download, the Marketplace blade is a great addition, as it gives quick access to the menus. This Weeks New Stuff

Got Eledees (aka Elebits) this week, and has revived my interest in the Wii as it's a great game, and the Wii controls work very well with it. Also got Edge: Art of Videogames, which showcases concept art, screenshots, drawings and such from over 40 games. It's lovely to just flick through and look at how video games can really be classified as an art form, well worth a purchase.

Skate Flickit Controls Video

Skate, the skateboarding game from EA. The game is supposed to be more realistic than the Tony Hawks franchise, as it has you using the analog stick to execute moves instead of the face buttons, as you will see from the video. The game is scheduled for release on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 by the end of this year, and I'm certainly looking forward to it.

A few good releases this week. Firstly we have Eledees (aka Elebits) for the Wii, which is supposed to be one of the most innovative titles released so far on the console. GAME acquires Gamestation

What do you do when you can no longer compete with the competition? Simple. You buy them out.That's exactly what GAME, the UK's largest video game retailer did to Game station today, for £74 million. The acquisition will add 217 stores to the GAME group, but GAME have said that they want to keep branding of both stores separate.Casualties within the Gamestation franchise have already been announced, as all concession stores operating within previous owner, Blockbuster, will not form part of the takeover deal.Video game retail on the high street may have taken a turn for the worst today, lets just hope that GAME don't transfer over their strict policies and ruin high street shopping for all of us.

New Gears of War maps this Thursday

A new Gear s of War map pack, Hidden Fronts, is hitting Marketplace this Thursday , and includes four brand-spankingly new maps:Bullet Marsh: In this Kryll-infested swamp, an old generator still powers the area lights. A few stray bullets could easily knock out the generator, leaving combatants to fend for themselves against the Kryll.Garden: This overgrown and crumbling conservatory still has a working fertilization and pesticide system. This system can pose a serious hazard to anyone who ventures into the greenhouse without first venting the air.Process: Teams must fight for control of this subterranean Imulsion processing plant, still active despite the cessation of the Pendulum wars.Subway: Timgad's Central Subway station used to serve as a central hub for commuters. The successor to the EyeToy has been officially unveiled by Sony, and is to be named the Plays tation Eye. It looks like a seriously advanced piece of kit, because not only do you get an Eye, but also an 'ear' to go with it, in the form of a microphone built in to the top. The microphone is said to be a sophisticated piece of kit as it has the ability to reduce background noise and focus on the spoken word for smoother, more accurate speech recognition and transfer, or so say Sony.The camera allows video chat, and has online gaming features (probably like the Live Vision Camera). Final part of Forza 2 car list

Almost a month to go until the official release of the game, and Turn 10 have released the final part of all the cars that will ship with the game, making up over 300 cars. Also note that 7 of the cars have special status, meaning the only way to acquire them will be through preordering the game, buying the Collectors Edition, or waiting for Turn 10 to put them up in the Auction House.The final part of the list includes all the Top End cars. Spring Backward Compatibility Update available

Microsoft have released the next BC update, although it is not yet available on Live. To get it now you will need to download the update from here and burn it to a disc. Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition dated

Great old Capcom have revealed the release date for the upcoming port of Resident Evil 4 on the Wii. The game will hit European stores on June 29th, much earlier than expected, and should give Wii gamers something to look forward to playing over the summer.The game includes the whole of the Gamecube release, as well as all the bonus content found in the PS2 version, but will make use of the Wiimote and nunchuk to 'aim, fire and slash'. So expect more undead slayings soon.

New Halo 2 Maps released

Bungie have released two new maps for Halo 2, Tombstone and Desolation, which are remakes of the old Hang em High and Derelict.They priced at a cheap £1.90 ($4) for the pair, although they cannot be bought with Microsoft Points, and require a credit card to be able to purchase them, as the old Xbox system does not recognise the Points system.Another problem for those wishing to download the new maps is to make sure you're not using VGA when accessing the downloader as it does not support PAL-60, and you'll have to dig out your composite or component cable for the download. Note: The maps work perfectly through VGA, it's just the downloader that doesn't support PAL-60.

Got a a couple of HD-DVD's this week, along with the free copy of BluRay Casino Royale from Sony. Also decided to repurchase PGR3, and glad I did as it's still such an awesome game to play.Also got a wireless Logitech PS2 pad, ready for when God of War 2 comes out. Guitar Hero II whammy bar problem patched

Seems that Red Octane have realised the fault with the whammy bar for the 360 guitar, and have been able to fix it with a patch. The patch is available to download as soon as you load up the game and are connected to Live.Tried the game after the update, and the whammy bar works perfectly, just like the PS2 guitar.
