360 Dashboard Update and new input device
2007-04-09 20:40:00
Microsoft have officially announced the features to be included in the next 360 Dash board update which is due to hit on May 7th.Big features the update include are the integration with Windows Live Messenger, allowing you to add up to 600 contacts, as well as chat to them while playing a game or watching a movie. A great feature for those wishing to use Messenger at the same time as the 360. Also announced is a new input device, a mini-keyboard which will attach to the bottom of the controller, allowing easy typing for those without a USB keyboard. The device looks very sleek, but we'll have to wait and see how effective it is when it is launched in the summer.Another great feature is the expansion of compatible video files playable on the 360. Right now the only format that can be played from your computer or USB device on the 360 is WMV, but in the new update, H.264 and MPEG-4 compatibility which is excellent, as all those shows you had to watch on your PC can now be watched usin...

A few stuff in this week. Mainly Guitar Hero II for 360 which is absolutely amazing, impressions which can be found here. Also got some Microsoft Points for when the downloadable songs are available.Managed to find a Wiimote charging station as well. Comes complete with two rechargeable battery packs (like the 360 Play & Charge kit, as well as the ability to hold two nunchuks, and obviously two Wiimotes. Only problem with it, is that the power lead is a bit too short. Thought it would be a USB cable, but instead it's a bypass cable which connects to the power socket of the Wii itself. Other than that its fantastic and looks great too. Also got The Shield S5 on DVD (the show is one of the best ever!), and Black Hawk Down on BluRay.Guitar Hero II (360)MSPoints (360)Wii Powerstation (Wii)The Shield S5 (DVD)Black Hawk Down (BluRay)

Super Rub-a-Dub now available at the Playstation Store
2007-04-06 01:49:00
You can now download the charming looking Super Rub-a-Dub from the Playstation Stor e for only £3.50. The game, like flOw, utilises the Sixaxis motion sensor, which controls the level plain, just like Super Monkey Ball. You then have to guide 'Alpha' duck to rescue his comrades from the bubbles they're trapped inside, and then lead the to the plug-hole exit.Reviews seem quite average for this title, but I'm sure it's worth the free demo download for a quick try.

Worst box arts of the 21st century
2007-04-03 00:32:00
I can understand that games of old may have hideous box art, as computers and graphics software wasn't as advanced as it is today, so publishers can be let off with producing some ugly box arts. But in this day and age, with graphics looking as good as they are, and every man and his dog knows how to use Photoshop, publishers and developers have no excuse for releasing games with art that looks like it was made by a five year old in Paint.Below is the ten worst box arts of the 21st century, and please do add your own ones if you come across them.American Chopper | Playstation 2Who is going to want to buy a game with two grown men on the front, looking like they just came back from doing something I'd rather not mention.Animal Soccer World | Playstation 2This one is wrong on so many levels. Firstly the art is so basic and bland. Secondly, if you look at what the animals are doing, like the hippo on the right and the pig and bear at the bottom, then I'm sure no parent is going to b...

Another week and another Live Arcade download. This time it's Rare's revamped version of the 1980's game, Jetpac. Microsoft officially announce Elite 360
2007-03-28 09:54:00
After much rumour and speculation, Micro soft have officially announced that they are to release a new version of the Xbox 360, due to arrive in America on April 29th, retailing at $479 (~£250). The European release is said to be sometime in 2007, with no definate date as of yet.It will include a 120GB hard drive, HDMI port, HDMI cable, data cable (to transfer files from your old hard drive), and the black & chrome casing. The hard drive will also be sold seperately at $180 (~£100), so maybe we can expect IPTV to be hitting Euro shores sometime soon.Is this upgrade really necessary for current owners of the console? In all honesty, I don't really think it is. The machine is the same as your bog standard white one, with the addition of an extra video output port, and a beefed up hard-drive. Now if they were to make the machine quieter and include a built-in HD-DVD drive, that might be an incentive to re-buy the machine.

Quite a few good games out on the PC this week, with the likes of Command and Conquer 3 and the Oblivion expansion pack, Shivering Isles (already released on Live Marketplace for 360 gamers that are interested.A budget game is also being released on 360, Earth Defence Force 2017, which is meant to be a pretty good game and has developed a cult following in Japan - it has you saving the earth from Giant Enemy Ants. Forget the Crabs, its the Ants this time! And it retails for £24.99 but can be picked up on Play for a bargainous £17.99. Can't go wrong for a 360 game at that price!A few games being released on Wii as well, with the usual kiddy titles, but Metal Slug Anthology brings a smile, and should be interesting.Movies wise, we have Stranger than Fiction out on DVD as well as Happy Feet. Although if you have a HD-DVD or BluRay player, pick it up from MovieTyme as the video transfer is meant to be the best out there on both formats. Another hit out on HD-DVD is Children of Men. H...

PS3 fastest selling home console in the UK
2007-03-26 22:32:00
This ones going to send the Nintendo and Microsoft fanboys screaming - the Playstation 3 is the fastest selling home console of all time, with over 165,000 sold on its launch weekend in the UK, according to to MCV. The UK was allocated 220,000 units, so customers have managed to buy out 80% of retailers stock. This figure comfortably beats the previous record holder, the Nintendo Wii, which managed to shift 105,000 units last December, whereas the Xbox 360 only managed 75,000 in 2005. Although both the Wii and the 360 were sold out and retailers didn't receive more stock for a while (the Nintendo Wii is still very hard to find on the high-street).So that leaves only 55,000 consoles out on the streets. Lets see how long it takes for the remainder to get sold, and how long for Sony to send out replenishments.PS3 software also took the limelight in the UK with this weeks chart looking like this:1. Resistance: Fall of Man (PS3)2. Motorstorm (PS3)3. Brian Lara Cricket 2007 (360)4. Virtu...

PS3 in the house
2007-03-22 19:50:00
Got my unit today, along with a few games, movies and a remote. I decided to get only the exclusive games for the system, as the rest of the games being released are either sport games, which I don't have any interest in, or have already been released on the 360 and have been played to death (Fight Night, Tony Hawks, Godfather). In total I grabbed 5 games; Formula 1, Motorstorm, Resistance: Fall of Man, Ridge Racer 7 and Virtua Fighter 5. I also had one BluRay ready to watch which was ordered last week and is one of my favs, Lord of War. As all the retailers are eager to get as many customers as possible, retail chain Gamestation (where I bought it from) were giving away a free copy of X-men 3 on BluRay, but I was left with a voucher to claim it sometime next week as they hadn't received the shipment of the freebie. And as mentioned earlier, a BluRay remote. The console itself is very big, you wouldn't think it was from looking at the pictures and magazines, but in the flesh it rea...

Capcom officially announced today via their Investors site that Devil May Cry 4 will be released on the 360 and PC. It was previously said to be a PS3 exclusive, but now Capcom have probably realised that it would be in their interest to go multiplatform. All three will be released at the same time, although no release date has been given.Seems like the big PS3 exclusives are slowly disappearing, all thats left of the major franchises is Metal Gear Solid 4, and if the laws of probability are correct, will probably be seeing a 360 release as well.Source: [Capcom]
