Homeworld 2 for the road trip!
2008-03-15 00:09:00 As I write this, I'm sitting in hotel room in London UK, at the end of a 3-day tradeshow. I left home Tuesday night and so missed the long downtime consequence of the Trinity 1.1 patch. Then again, I'm experience an even longer downtime myself, as I'll only be able to log back into EVE next Monday evening (I've been have trouble installing EVE on this work laptop for some reason, but that's another story). So in getting ready for this 6 day trip, I installed Homeworld 2 on Tuesday and started replaying the game. I mainly did this so that I could pass the time on the 6 hour flight to Europe. For some reason, unless I'm truly exhausted, I can never sleep during a flight - even a 6 hour long flight. Anyway, since I never finished the game when it came out, I plan on doing so this time. The original Homeworld was a blast and as I've said before my favorite game of all time - after EVE of course! Let's give the (true) sequel a chance. As for the blog, this kind of explains why I ha... More About: Trip , Road Trip , Road , The Road
The Drone Bay Podcast: Episode 2 - Now with more seismic events!
2008-03-11 14:29:00 EVE Official Forums LinkVirgin Worlds Link The Drone Bay #2 (Click to Download/Play)The Drone Bay returns for Episode 2! Yes, it?s the third episode, and Crovan had to re-record the intro 2 or 3 times to stop saying ?Episode Three,?. This week brings you more of the discussion, guides, and listener mail that you?ve been asking for. As always, please contact us with any suggestions or feedback.Bring on the Drones:First off is the weekly recap, where the guys discuss the end of the tourney (congrats Ev0ke!), the stalling out of the Delve offensive (for now), and the Council of Stellar Management. Also, the guys got a bit more media attention this week, which is good, because our egos need inflating. Check out Crovan?s CSM blog entry which got a bit of press from Massively and Ten Ton Hammer this week. My economic segment notes also made Massively?s front page, so we are all feeling smugly superior for a bit.In DON?T PANIC, thanks to popular demand, the crew discusses corporations and ... EVE Gifts from CK to CrazyKinux!
2008-03-11 03:34:00 Indeed, EVE gifts from me to myself. Those are the best! My EVE Store order came in earlier today! I can't wait for my daughter to try on the bodysuit - will make sure to post the photo. Earlier this evening I used the keychain/bottle opener to open myself a nice Rickard's Red and slowly pore it into my EVE pint glass!! All that remains is for me to watch some of the 2006 Alliance pvp tourney, and fall asleep as the fighting breaks out...Life is good!More EVE Online news and rantings at CrazyKinux's Musing! 2008-03-08 15:57:00 Wow, another week gone by. Another tourney week-end where alliance get a chance to tear each other to pieces. Drone Bay Episode #1 officially out!
2008-03-06 01:35:00 EVE Official Forums LinkVirgin Worlds LinkThe "first official" episode of our EVE Online podcast is now out - considering that last week's episode was a pilot. This week, we've covered the Fifth Alliance Tournament, Character Creation, Listeners' Mail, EVE's Economy 101 and then we diverge onto other subjects. As usual we appreciate your feedback, both on content and form.As for speaking skills, I'm still working on eliminating those darn "verbal pauses". A work in progress, for which I appreciate your patience. Working with Alsedrech and Crovan, has proven both a curse (cause I'll get compared) and a blessing (cause they'll help me improve). These guys are top notch, I'm sure you'll agree. As with every show past and future, we appreciate a little bump on the EVE forums. So long Gary, it's been a blast
2008-03-05 03:07:00 I've just learned that Gary Gygax, Father of Dungeons & Dragons, has just past away. The gaming world owes so much to this one figure, there's no way to properly define it all - Dungeons & Dreamers will give you a hint. I spent so many hours in D&D books as a teenager, none of which would have been possible without this man. There are two figures who stood out for me during my teenage years, and now, with Gary Gygax passage, both are gone. The other was Isaac Asimov, Father of the Three Laws of Robotics and prolific science fiction and science writer.I'm saddened to see him go, but I know that his legacy will stay with us for years to come.Go in peace, and fly safe dear old friend.More EVE Online news and rantings at CrazyKinux's Musing! Amazing EVE Alliance Tournament screenshots
2008-03-04 18:37:00 For those of you who've missed the first EVE Alliance Tournament V week-end, Winterblink has recently uploaded over 500 screenshots of Day 2 and 3 of the event. I myself only had a chance to view a couple of minutes of the live broadcast, since week-end days are Family time (notice the capital F!). So instead I watched the recorded shows. And since the quality of the stream isn't high, these shots are a blessing as they truly give you an idea of the beauty of Trinity II. Having said that, I'd still like to thank the EVE TV crew for an amazing experience. Let's seen Blizzard do the same!So make sure you thank Blinky! Please head over to his post and please let him know your appreciation! I'm looking forward to the next week-end session!More EVE Online news and rantings at CrazyKinux's Musing! EVE Online Speedlinking for March 1st, 2008
2008-03-01 13:55:00 This week was a bit less busy in official news. Nothing was announced by CCP, except the Trinity 1.1 Patch in the EVE Newsletter. Most of the other items of the newsletter were old news. Otherwise, it was the EVE community that was busy, as 3 podcasts were released this week; 2 of which were firsts. So, here is what caught my attention this week.Ramblings of a Forum Whore - a new EVE blog by GhosttrGallente Mini-Freighter - Plutonian shares his wonderful talent as 3D artist. Vexor set-up for both Solo and Gang PVP
2008-02-29 14:19:00 The Gallente Vexor has got to be my favourites cruiser, if not ship period! There's something about the look of the ship, it's armour tanking abilities, or the fact that it it can carry a good stack of drones with its 100m3 drone bay. And so I'm always looking for a good ship set-up, playing around with various configurations. I can't tell you how much time I've spent docked at a station, putting and pulling ship modules, then undocking and testing theses set-ups. Its' a good part of the fun of EVE.So I was quite pleased to see and article in the latest issue of EON (issue #10) on the subject of PVP Cruisers set-up. The thorough article written by Sivona, explores the PVP configurations for a number of Tech I cruisers, in both Solo and Gang iterations. The cruisers listed in the article are the Caldari Caracal and Blackbird, the Amarr Arbitrator and Maller, the Gallente Vexor and Thorax, and finally the Minmatar Stabber and Rupture. Here below is the Solo PVP set-up for the Ve...

An addicted EVE Online gamer is what I am!
2008-02-26 05:18:00 Or so it seems. As I start to write this, I've just sent the details of our EVE podcast to Brent, over at VigirnWorlds.com. Earlier in the evening, Crovan had sent him the link to our podcast for review. Brent now has everything he needs to set it up on the Podcast Collective, and has promised to get it online sometime tomorrow (well actually today since we're past midnight). Thanks Brent. You've been an inspiration.Wow, this is it!! Our brand-spanking-new EVE podcast. Never thought we'd get it done so quickly. Than again, I'm blessed to have teamed up with two amazing co-hosts, one of which - Crovan - spent the all day yesterday editing the podcast. I've promised you 2 beers at Fanfest later this Crovan, and I'll honor that promise! Thanks Crovan, thanks Alsedrech! Thank you both! Once it's available on VirginWorlds.com, I'll make sure to let you know about it!Now to top it all off, another podcast in which I participated, just went live on the Collective. last week, I spe... He shot the sherif and killed every darn deputy!
2008-02-25 20:48:00 I came across this great video while browsing EVE-Files during lunch. The video was made by PPetermann80, and shows him as he shot and destroyed 60 Gallente Police, before safely warping out of the system. Here's the story in his own words. The System is Bille (0.6) (Region is Everyshore if I'm not totaly wrong) the gate is the Elarel gate. After losing another ship to Gallentean police forces I decided to take revenge. Fielding an passive drake with f.o.f. missiles I jumped to highsec and killed 60 police ships (cruiser & battleship sized) before I ran out of ammo and jumped back to low sec.Pretty neat stuff if you ask me. Didn't think it could be done. But there you have it. The first Drone Bay podcast has been recorded
2008-02-25 04:50:00 As I'm writing this we've just finished recording our first EVE podcast; The Drone Bay #01. What a humbling experience! As I sit here listening to my recording, one becomes very self conscious of all the "you know" and "MMms" one says. And boy did I do that a lot. I just hope Crovan does a good job on the editing, and removes those out.Having said that, I loved the experience. And I believe we've got a decent pilot. It won't be perfect, and there will definitely be room for improvement, but it's a good start. Both Crovan and Aldsedrech are amazing co-hosts. I feel privileged to be doing this podcast with them. I look forward to working with them over the coming weeks, to bring you our very own EVE podcast.Crovan will be editing it through the night, and I should have a chance to listen to the final version in the morning. I'm anxious, but excited at the same time. We're all trying to do our best in providing interesting content in an entertaining way. Will we manage to get it... More About: Podcast

EVE Player Meet at Brutopia
2008-02-23 16:16:00 Last night at Brutopia, after asking a few strangers sitting at tables if they there for the EVE player meet (and getting these weird looks back!), I met up with fellow EVE players. Now the funny thing is that 3 weeks ago these fine folks - Cartboard Box, Krevette, Figura, Jattzia, Cozmo and Sil - were all strangers to me (well except you Pandore). Complete unknowns whom I'd never met, let alone shared a good pint with, exchanging war stories. But here I was, sitting amongst new friends who shared a common passion, EVE. We all had a good time, shared stories, got to learn about each other in RL and much more. And if there's one thing I learned and promised myself to remember, it's to run like hell if I ever land in a system and see Jattzia in Local! You've all been warned. =)In the end we promised ourselves to do this again in a month. And this time we'll be more fools, sipping more beer, enjoying ourselves even more. Here are my photos, and here are CB's.More EVE Online news and ... More About: Player , Meet
EVE Online to use latest animation engine technology
2008-02-21 03:34:00 As it's been mentioned on numerous sites over the course of the day (Gamasutra, IGN, GamesIndustry, Voodoo Extreme), CCP has chosen NaturalMotion's Morpheme animation engine to render the avatars, aka player characters (and NPCs I guess) in full 3D, as part of it's Ambulation project (see this EVE Forum thread for the whole story). From the various videos available on NaturalMotion's site (a 69mb video requires registration), on Youtube, as well as an earlier video post on this blog, I'm very impressed to see the length to which our favorite Viking devs are going, to offer us an immersive game. There has never been better rendered motion in any MMO, to my knowledge."CCP has shown that they have the ability to take virtual worlds to new places," said Andy Payne, NaturalMotion's VP of Sales, Europe/Asia. "With NaturalMotion's morpheme technology, CCP will be able to blaze even more trails through the MMO space."Ambulation looks very promising. Don't you think?More EVE Online ne... Hey Doc, where's my Quarterly Economic Newsletter
2008-02-19 05:34:00 On the way home tonight I was listening to the Shut Up We're Talking / VirginWorlds podcast and as Brent was going over his upcoming schedule for his week at GDC, he mentioned that he would attend a session with the good doctor, Dr. EyjoG that is, CCP's Lead Economist for EVE.That brought up some questions for me. When was the last time we got one of his reports? Last year? Late last year? Well once home, I checked the last one I had bookmarked. The date, December 2007 - with his last Quarterly Economic Newsletter dating back the month before. Which means that Doc is somewhat overdue. Hopefully, GDC will coincide with the next newsletter or report, and that by Wednesday of this week. I'll have printed the second QEN and will be reading it during my commute home. Now as most of you know, I'm a carebear. That's my nature as an EVE player, one which allows me to explore and seek understanding in EVE's inner workings - different than those a PvP player would seek. It's differen...
A new EVE podcast in the works!
2008-02-18 04:43:00 Following in the footsteps of the legendary Winterblink and Urban Mongral, I have decided to become involved in the launch of a new EVE podcast. Rest assure, I will not be the only one involved. Fellow EVE players Crovan and Alsedrech will partake in this monumental endeavor!I have to give Crovan, aka Bitter Old Noob, all the credit of putting the idea forward about a new EVE podcast. Not that I had not thought about it (sorry for the double negative), but he did put his neck on the line first when he mentioned it in one of his posts, last week. That was all it took for me. I reached out and after a few emails back and forth, a few Skype conversation, we had an agreement.Earlier tonight all three of us discussed the format, segments, content and all. We're really excited about this, if a little apprehensive. We have to measure up to some great talent and a podcast that's ever more popular, and you all know I'm talking about Warp Drive Active podcast, part of the VirginWolds.com ... Once a corp mate, always a corp mate!
2008-02-14 04:50:00 So what makes an MMO so special. What makes you log in every night day in and day out? The people you play with that is. Brent from VirginWorlds.com hinted at the idea, and I have to agree. Yes the game you're playing has a lot to do with it, but in the end, the friends you play with have more to do with it.Earlier tonight Isuridae, second in command at Phoenix Propulsion Labs contacted me to know if I was interested in returning to the corp. Well, well now. What to do?After a bit of chatting, I learned that PPL was moving back to Empire space. I then inquired if there was the possibility of becoming the Trades Director. I was told that the corp was open. Interesting. After a few minutes of private chat with Isuridae, I had convinced myself that this was the best outcome for me. I was to return amongst friends. And that's exactly what I did. After 18 jumps, I had applied and been accepted. I had access back to the PPL forums and members area.I was home. Amongst friends.More EVE On... More About: Mate
Blog Banter #3 : Games you should play to get to know me
2008-02-12 06:10:00 Already a month has gone by since the last Blog Banter. How time flies when you're having fun! This month's banter is on the topic of "What game(s) would you suggest someone play if they wanted to get to know you better?"In my case, we're definitely talking about multiple games even though one takes most of my time these days - EVE having the honour. Now let's see. What games help you understand who I am? What have been the games which have brought me the most pleasure over the years? Would that help me pick games that can define me? Let's make a list and see.Games that I've particularly liked over the last, say 10 years:Diablo II (RPG)Neverwinter Nights (RPG)Dungeon Siege (RPG)Battle Realms (RTS)Homeworld (RTS)Halo (FPS)1701 A.D. (RTS)Gears of War (FPS)Mass Effect (RPG)EVE Online (MMORPG)Starcraft (RTS)As I mentioned in the last Banter, I've spent a lot of time in EVE over the last 2 or 3 years. But I still give these games a few hours once in a while. There's something about... More About: Play
EVE Online reviewed in GFW latest issue
2008-02-12 05:35:00 It's not every day that an MMORPG which is about to turn 5 years old get a review in a mainstream gaming magazine. Well EVE did just that in the March issue (#016) of Games for Windows -The Official Magazine. In the Updates section (on page 83) they review Trinity an 8 out of 10 score. On the plus side they mention that visual update that came with the patch is simply gorgeous and that there's new content. On the down side, they complain (with reason) that the agent missions need an overhaul. Couldn't agree more with this review. Unfortunately, they mess-up the DirectX version saying that the overhaul bring DX10, though in reality, Trinity is DX9.As well, they review a a series of PCs as part of an Ultimate Gaming Machine competition, and one of these PC, the one from Commodore Gaming, has an EVE Online skin.Quite cool to see EVE still getting some press after all these years! EVE Online: The Motion Picture
2008-02-10 16:11:00 Gotcha! Ok, I'll admit, this was link baiting at its best, or worse. But, to be honest when I saw the first few seconds of this Star Trek trailer, I had a vision of what an EVE Online movie would look like - think Caldari military factory. And it looked gorgeous. Still, the trekkie in me died long ago, sometime after Star Trek IV.This latest installment might get me to dish out some hard won cash though, and see it when it comes out. I'll have to learn a bit more about the story though.More EVE Online news and rantings at CrazyKinux's Musing! More About: Picture , Motion
