Recent reports show that the number of Xbox 360 faulty units is up to one third of all units produced. Most of these units suffer of what many define as the "3 red lights of doom." For many of us, the metaphor sounds a bit exaggerated, but for the Xbox 360 users this is more than a metaphor - it's a threat they all fear. The problem is not that the 3 lights of doom mean the sudden death of the console, but that many of the authorized repair centers refuse taking in for repair consoles that display such a problem. This can be explained by the large number of defective units (more than the repair centers can handle) and also by the fact that in certain situations the damage is irreparable.The 3 lights of doom are caused by a design flaw of the Xbox 360 motherboard that triggers an excessive heating of the system.
