2007-03-16 23:33:00 My wife got me into listening to NPR a few years ago, when we met (again). Since then, I've been a fan of Car Talk and the recently cancelled Oddessy, with Gretchen Helfridge. I mostly listen in the morning, and last month i heard a story on 848 about something called nasal irrigation. here's a description.....Nasal irrigation is an ancient personal hygiene practice, originating from the Yoga practice of Jala Neti (literally: "water cleansing"), which involves regularly flooding the nasal cavity with warm salty water. the saline solution rinses the nasal passages, clearing dried mucus and allowing the sinuses to drain freely. 2007-03-12 18:38:00 i saw this movie last night, and what a mess. really, the movie is a directionless disaster, boring characters, and the most pretentious, overwrought and heavy-handed voiceovers. maybe in the hands of a more competent director, it might have been good, but whoever the hack was that directed this should go back to making the Power Rangers. CG blood and the slow-motion carnage looked cheap, and it felt more like a shitty Sci-Fi channel movie than the epic it aspires to be.

2007-03-08 04:42:00 Never got to play any of the previous Paper Mari o games, but this Wii version has got me hooked. it seems like Nintendo (through the developer Intelligent Systems) have nailed the old-school vibe of the early Mario games and brought them kicking and Goomba-smashing into the next generation. flipping perspectives and getting 8-bit on the enemies looks like fun, and the art style is really cool, too. hopefully I'll be getting this game as soon as it comes out.GDC footage. Little Big Planet might not seem like a game with longevity, but the incredible Tim Burton-like art style is awesome, and the co-op emergent game play looks fantastic. I want to see more of this game, and get more details on the level editor, sharing system and other stuff hinted at in the following videos. the physics-based game play just screams Garry's Mod, but i won't hold it against them. 2007-03-07 21:09:00 Sony just unveiled it's new "thing" for the PS3, Play station Home . it's a Second Life-like app that combines virtual spaces, interactive games and game achievement trophies. I'm on the fence about this, since it seems like alot of effort into something that doesn't really have anything to do with GAMES, which is what the PS3 really,really needs right now. That being said, it does sound cool, but i don't think it's any better than what Nintendo or Microsoft have done. Just different.I left what i had written a few hours ago up, because i wanted to really see what this was all about. after watching and reading up on all the coverage, ( check out Gametab.com for most, if not all the relevant posts on all the major gaming sites..) I really REALLY like what Sony's doing here. yeah, it has nothing to do with games, but it has everything to do with community. skillz training, and a sequel
2007-03-03 01:26:00 Super Dodge Ball was one of the first multiplayer games that i was really obsessed over, to the point that i was making skill stat sheets and noting the damage made by special attacks and defensive strength. The stereotypical (racist?) characters were mostly palette-swapped clones, but the core gameplay kicked so much ass, i wore out a few controllers playing the hell out of this game...almost as much as Tecmo Bowl. Hopefully Nintendo releases this gem of a game onto the Virtual Console, so i won't have to dig out my modded Xbox to play it. Here's some strategy vids to explain some of the finer points of gameplay.So a LOOOONG time ago, ( last year) a couple of kids made a bad-ass light saber duel video. I posted about it early in this blog's life, (before i knew how to embed videos) and internet fame followed.
