Movie Review: The Forbidden Kingdom
2008-04-23 09:07:00 I like both Jackie Chan and Jet Li’s films, however, they are both quite different in style, and thus hard to compare. Although Jackie Chan’s skills are amazing, I feel, as a character, he is more suited to the slightly more light-hearted role, he always comes accrosss as the “I don’t want to have to fight you” type. Whereas in comparison, Jet Li, is very much the “get out of the way or I’ll make you move” type, and for that reason, he works better under serious titles, like Unleashed, War etc. However, I think for me they are both very close, I love the comedy aspects of Jackie Chan’s films, as well as the action and amazing stunts that he performs himself. I think this will be a very interesting one to see, two very different styles coming to the same film. Original post blogged on Snow World @gameshogun™.ws Blognet. Lineage II SEA Community Portal and Boards goes Online
2008-04-21 04:41:00 AsianMedia's iPlay™ Asia.Community went offline last 15th April 2008 with a message that the Community just got Bigger and Better. It went back online last Friday, 18th April 2008 at 6:00pm with indeed a better site. They developed a new site just for the Community of Lineage II South-East Asia - a portal (as shown above) and discussion boards (as shown below).Reading the new forums, the overall feedback is very positive. Majority are also in agreement with the new light and soft design of the L2-SEA Community Site, which helps prevent eye strain. Many websites use white as background, or a light-soft color combination, check out Google, Yahoo, the Wall Street Journal, CNN, and many others. A black background site is not as common as every think it is, but a black background is easy to use when it comes to designing a website. If you ask me, for entities and official sites, they should use white as background or a light-soft color combination. Black backgrounds are for th... More About: Online , Portal
UPDATE: Jackie Chan and Jet Li in The Forbidden Kingdom
2008-04-18 00:32:00 UPDATE (2008/04/18): Now Showing in the Philippines!! Who would have thought that Jackie Chan and Jet Li will be seen together in a movie? I did, and I always wished they do. This year, it has become a reality. The two icons will appear on the new movie entitled The Forbidden Kingdom . Trailer, movie posters, and game inside.. My girlfriend and me first saw this a few weeks ago at SM Mall of Asia where they stickied on the floors of the movie hallway the actors of the movie. At first we thought they were just look alikes, you know, another of those spin-off comedy movies, because we saw Jet Li wearing a similar costume from his Once Upon A Time In China movies, then Jackie Chan similar to his, Drunken Master movies, and other characters that somehow look familiar. Not only that, their character names or titles are: Jackie Chan - “The Drunken Immortal"; Jet Li - “The Silent Monk” (we thought of the Shaolin Temple movies). We walked around and looked for... Dekaron Coming to South-East Asia
2008-04-17 14:34:00 We have known about GameHi awarding the publishing deal license of Dekaron (Western brand: 2Moons) to MobiusGames, the gaming arm of Digital Media Exchange, Inc. for sometime now, but was asked to keep the information until there is an official announcement. Today, Scott Countryman, CEO of dme, officially announced in a press statement the publishing of Dekaron for South -East Asia . He said, “the viral growth of the US version of Dekaron in South-East Asia supports the suitability and demand of this title in our territories. We believe game performance, lack of local support, high pricing, and payment challenges have held Dekaron back from realizing its true potential in the market. The mobiusgames team has many loyal Dekaron players and we are excited to partner with GameHi to bring this great game to the growing online game market in South-East Asia with a Mobius layer of premium services". “GameHi is proud to announce the partnership with Digital Media Exchange... WCG Philippines - New Site Launch
2008-04-17 10:08:00 The new website of World Cyber Games Philippines is now online featuring the launch of WCG2008 Philippines tournament whose winners will represent the Philippines in the main WCG2008 Competitions. This is the 3rd or 4th website of WCG Philippines, their forums alone have gone from Invision Power Board (IP [note: NOT InvisionFree], to phpBB, and now vBulletin, I hope this is the last time they’re going to change their forums. And their new website is better than their previous site designs, a great change indeed! But again, I hope this will signal the start of a true eSports Philippines campaign, community portal, and competitions, after all their URL is esports.ph. As gamers say, “gj Samsung Philippines!” (gj = good job) Original post blogged on the Gaming Realm @gameshogun™.ws Blognet. More About: Site , Launch , New Site

IPVG and GMA 7 - i-Play website now Live!
2008-04-17 09:51:00 The website of IPVG’s and GMA-NMI’s i-Play is now live. I’ve been waiting for their site since they first announced the joint-venture. I discovered the site via GMANews.TV as shown below: The i-Play website is currently just a simple corporate slash product site. All links goes to the IP E-games websites for O2Jam-PH and Audition-PH (of course with links to IP E-games and GMA-NMI). Let’s all say welcome to the industry GMA 7! What took you so long? NCsoft Europe cracks down on Illegal Private Servers
2008-04-17 09:50:00 NCsoft® is once again cracking down on illegal private servers and iCafes providing services/access to these illegal servers. It is interesting to note that here in the Philippines, the iCafe business was “saved” by the Online Gaming Industry and helped it boom. The reason - no game licensing fees. Online Games were also said to have become very popular because there is no piracy, however, the mere distribution of illegal private server installers is in itself an act of piracy. The number one supporter of this modern piracy are the businesses that was saved by the online gaming industry - Internet Cafes ("iCafes"). How ironic, just go from one iCafe to another (be it a residential iCafe or an iCafe chain), you will see support for Ragnarok Online private servers, not only that, there are also private server support for Mu Online, Lineage® II, World of Warcraft, Gunbound (imagine that, a private server for a free-to-play online game), and Priston Tale (to menti... HellGate: London - A Huge Success in Korea
2008-04-17 09:49:00 Here’s a Press Release from Flagship Studios, the developer of HellGate: London , an MMOFPS (note: HGL can also be argued to be an MMORPG as well as MMOTPS [Third-Person]; for simplicity’s sake, I categorized it as MMOFPS), about the huge success of the game in Korea . San Francisco, CA (April 11th, 2008) - Flagship Studios today announced that its action role-playing game Hellgate: London has become the most successful online video game launch in Korea of the past three years with over 1 million accounts registered within the first two weeks of its open beta test. Hellgate: London is the first online game in over three years to use a monthly subscription business model. After launching the open beta on January 15th, Hellgate: London quickly rose to the ninth most played online game, fifth most popular RPG and most popular online beta game in PC Cafes*, with over 1 million accounts. Hellgate: London was released commercially on February 22nd, and achieved record sales in its f... More About: Success , Huge , Hellgate London

dNeero Social Surveys - For Survey-Lovers
2008-04-10 16:33:00 I found this “social-survey” service called dNeero via Kabalyero (he’s one of the popular Second Life bloggers in the Philippines). Seems cool so I gave it a whirl, below is my first survey. Take the survey also! Then let’s see how much we’ll earn (yeah yeah), and at the same time, how fast this will spread to the Filipino survey-lovers. gameshogun.ws Blognet v8.0
2008-04-09 14:51:00 Welcome to version 8.0 of gameshogun.ws Blognetwork! New skin called “Simple Zen” created by Foppe Hemminga. I did some changes but these are for the most part, not noticeable (but it’s there, you’re looking at it already). The blog platform was also updated to b2evolution v2.4.1 “Nevada” (STABLE) release. Which is of course better than the previous versions (and other blog platforms out there ). New plugins were also installed, the Turing Test plugin which asks a complicated question (not really) which an Einstein-brain human being can answer (just kidding). This is to further help against automated spam comment posting. Then the Democracy Poll plugin where we can conduct polls! If you look to your right (visit the blog: gameshogun.ws to see the poll), you will see our first poll: “Do you like the new (v8) design?” Give it a whirl, vote! That’s it for this update… OpenID support will be provided later this week or next week. Finally, if you are lo...

Stephen King on Violence and Politicians
2008-04-08 18:30:00 Here’s one of the icons in the movie industry - Stephen King . We all know him and if you don’t then I guess you are not watching movies at all. So here, Stephen King gives his opinion about politicians trying to put restrictions on the so-called “violent (video) games". Here are some excerpts I found very useful for our local politicians claiming that Gamers will be War-Freak Adults. Parents, you should read this as well. videogames are not my thing. Nor am I some kind of raving political nutcase. But when I heard about HB 1423, which happens to be a bill pending in the Massachusetts state legislature, I still hit the roof. HB 1423 would restrict or outright ban the sale of violent videogames to anyone under the age of 18. Which means, by the way, that a 17-year-old who can get in to see Hostel: Part II would be forbidden by law from buying (or renting, one supposes) the violent but less graphic Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Which is actually true, laws can res... More About: Politicians , Violence
5th Country to Ratify the ASEAN Charter
2008-02-26 18:15:00 My first prediction came true, Cambodia will be the next country to ratify the Asean Charter and so it was. Today, February 26, 2008, the Cambodian National Assembly unanimously approved the ASEAN Charter.Pen Pagna, Chairman of the legislation and justice committee of the parliament said that the ASEAN Charter can help Cambodia to “rule by law and walk to democracy and development". They are also very much interested in the economic and social integration with their ASEAN neighbors, as laid down and written in the ASEAN Charter. This is great news, Cambodia showing interest and believes in the ASEAN Charter as a tool for democracy and the rule of law. This can be used as a leverage for Myanmar (Burma). The ASEAN Charter is now approved by half of its 10-member states. First was Singapore last January 7, 2008; then Brunei last February 15, 2008; third is Malaysia on February 18, 2008; Laos fourth, on February 20, 2008; and now Cambodia, February 26, 2008.The next five that ... Blizzard's statement about RMT - the Secondary Market of MMOGs
2008-02-23 07:39:00 After so many years, here’s another official statement from an online gaming company regarding RMT (Real-Money Trading) which is the lucrative Secondary Market of MMOGs.Here are some excerpts that I find very good to spread. What many people don’t realize when buying gold is the large impact it has on the game economy, and also how the companies selling gold obtain it. Our developers, in-game support, and anti-hack teams work diligently to stop the exploits these companies use and help players who have become victims of their services. We regularly track the source of the gold these companies sell, and find that an alarmingly high amount comes from hacked accounts.Selling gold for real money and having characters power-leveled are violations of our Terms of Use and End User License Agreement, and we regularly take corrective action when we find that these services have been used. We hope the information presented here is helpful to anyone considering buying gold or using ... More About: Statement
Microsoft Opens Up and Supports the Free and Open-Source Developers?
2008-02-21 20:01:00 NOTE: Don’t get me wrong, this is a good move of Microsoft . But I have some points I want to make.("Microsoft Interoperability Being Watched by the European Commission” - link below)Microsoft is releasing 30,000 pages of documentation for Windows (both desktop and server products) that were previously available to partners only through a trade secret license. Then they make the following pledge to open-source developers:Microsoft is providing a covenant not to sue open source developers for development or non-commercial distribution of implementations of these protocols. These developers will be able to use the documentation for free to develop products. Companies that engage in commercial distribution of these protocol implementations will be able to obtain a patent license from Microsoft, as will enterprises that obtain these implementations from a distributor that does not have such a patent license. The interoperability program of Microsoft will apply to Windows V... The Return of Filipino Animation
2008-02-21 04:50:00 It’s been years since we last saw a full-length Filipino animation and that time we all reacted that it is not at par yet with American Cartoons, Japanese Anime, and the general Animation industry in the world. BUT, if we kept an open-mind back then, Filipino Animation releases (full-length or otherwise) becomes better and better for every release. And you know what? This year we will be able to see the (as gamers say it) “bestest” of Filipino Animation has to offer. Want to see the trailers? More about it after the jump!Late last year, me and my girlfriend Sherlene saw a trailer of a new Filipino Animation, which I’d rather call “Filipino Anime” - Urduja, it is so good we were shocked its completely Filipino made, we thought it was a dubbed version of another country’s legend but it is about the Philippines!I’ve completely forgotten about it until today. Laos and Brunei Ratifies the Asean Charter
2008-02-20 18:04:00 Four out of ten countries of ASEAN ratified the 1st Asean Charter, the latest Laos and Brunei with the latter having ratified and submitted the “instrument of ratification” last February 15 before Malaysia.Six more countries are still to ratify the Asean Charter namely - Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Viet Nam. All six countries have until early December to ratify the Asean Charter before the next ASEAN Summit starts.I am predicting that the next countries to ratify it are Cambodia, Viet Nam, and Indonesia. The first two are where Asean was positively felt the most (being the newest members of the group and as reported in the ASEAN Awareness Survey) and Indonesia as being one of the founder of the grouping and being one of the most active about the Asean Charter (other than Singapore).Congratulations to Brunei and Laos and thank you very much! This hopefully puts more pressure to the Philippines and Myanmar. Here’s the list based on repor...
Microsoft's Initial Statement about Xbox and HD-DVD
2008-02-20 11:29:00 Here’s the initial statement of Microsoft regarding the Toshiba HD-DVD news about the end of HD-DVD, and its effect with Xbox 360.We do not believe the recent reports about HD DVD will have any material impact on the Xbox 360 platform or our position in the marketplace. As we’ve long stated, we believe it is games that sell consoles and Xbox 360 continues to have the largest next-gen games library with the most exclusives and best selling games in the industry. We will wait until we hear from Toshiba before announcing any specific plans around the Xbox 360 HD DVD player. HD DVD is one of the several ways we offer a high definition experience to consumers and we will continue to give consumers the choice to enjoy digital distribution of high definition movies and TV shows directly to their living room along with playback of the DVD movies they already own.Source: HD-DVD Statement from XboxPowered by b2evolution.
HD-DVD is now Dead... Blu-ray Disc is now the HD Standard
2008-02-20 08:34:00 The HD format wars is finally over and many lives were spared especially in *ehemm* “2nd World” country Philippines, and the many 3rd world countries who are usually the victims of these tech wars. The winner? Sony’s Blu-ray Disc . Blu-ray Disc is now the standard format in HD distribution with full support from Disney, Fox, Lionsgate, Netflix, Best Buy, Warner Bros., Walmart, and the list goes on.This happened after Toshiba, the creator of HD DVD announced in a press release that they will discontinue production of HD DVD and all businesses related to it. However, they will continue to give ’support’ to those who already have it. Especially the many owners of Microsoft’s Xbox360.So, what’s next for Xbox360? Does this mean Microsoft now have to release a new Xbox using Sony’s Blu-ray Disc? How about PS3, will it further boost its sales? And how about the other supporters of HD DVD like Paramount and Dreamworks?Well, for the consum... More About: Standard , Dead

2008-02-18 12:11:00 Malaysia is the second ASEAN member that ratified the 1st ASEAN Charter, but do you know that there is still much to be done? Which is our job as ordinary people? He said that we are a “Caring and Sharing” people who [1]helps each other; [2] shares responsibilities; and [3] share benefits. “These common qualities in attitudes and predispositions are clearly reflected in the Bali Concord II (Declaration of ASEAN Concord II) adopted by ASEAN Leaders at their Summit in Bali, in October 2003.” The document stre...
