2007-12-13 10:08:00 In the City of Industry in California, a truck carrying more than 1,000 copies of Rock Band was hijacked by highway bandits, police said Wednesday. The robbers reportedly approached truck driver Nirmal Singh's 18-wheeler on the Pomona Freeway after he picked up his load at the Port of Long Beach. They pulled up next to Singh and gestured at him to stop his truck. When he complied, the robbers blindfolded Singh at gunpoint and drove the truck around for an hour. They then stopped to unload the truck clean and drove again to Riverside, where the robbers escaped and Singh was set free. "We're glad no one got hurt," said EA spokesman Bryce Baer. "We hope these guys end up forming a rock band in jail." According to the Los Angeles Times, the load, which was insured and headed to a Michigan warehouse, was worth more than $170,000. Kids beaten for hogging Xbox 360 store kiosk
2007-12-11 10:11:00 In Orchard Road, Singapore, two boys were reportedly punched and kicked by a group of teens for hogging an Xbox 360 kiosk. Somehow, the incident was not enough for the two gamers to put down the controller and stop playing, even during the attack. At a Best Denki store in the Ngee Ann City shopping center, two brothers, 9 and 10 years old, whose real names were not mentioned as they are minors, were playing Halo 3 at a kiosk when they were approached by four teenage boys and a girl. One of the teens pressed the reset button and the group began scolding the boys. When the brothers chose to ignore the group, one of them punched the 10-year-old boy in the right eye. "I held onto the controller with one hand and tried to punch back with the other," the boy said. When he started to cry from the punch, the group started to leave, but not before one of them kicked the 10-year-old in the back of the leg. However, this time, the boy retaliated at his attacker, returning... More About: Kids , Xbox 360 , Store , Kiosk
USPS delivers woman empty Wii box
2007-12-09 10:45:00 Between Thanksgiving and Christmas, the U.S. Postal Service is expected to deliver some 20 billion pieces of mail. However, some packages don't always arrive to their destinations intact. A woman in Columbus, Georgia was able to find and purchase a Nintendo Wii on eBay only to have it stolen during shipping. "It looks like someone ripped it backwards," Kathy Green told local WTVM. When the package arrived, the box the Wii was supposed to be in was torn open. Inside the actual Wii box, the console was missing. Officials at the post office can confirm through tracking the package that its weight was heavier at one point, but cannot determine what went wrong. Since Green had the package insured, she'll recoup the money. "It's hard to tell where in the system it got opened up or where it actually happened," said USPS Customer Service Manager Michael Matthews. "Package your articles correctly, make sure they're secure, be sure that you have an address on the ins... More About: Woman , Empty

Santa selling personal Wii delivery for $10,000 on eBay
2007-12-05 03:17:00 Having trouble finding a Nintendo Wii this holiday season? Well, Santa Claus has apparently come forward with this gracious listing on eBay. Santa is offering the personal delivery of a brand new Wii console to the home of "that special boy or girl this Christmas." "I will make a special stop prior to getting my reindeer ready for that long trek across the world delivering toys to the good little boys and girls," Santa wrote in the listing. "I will personally stop by your home a week or so prior to Christmas (in full Santa costume) and give your boy or girl a Christmas he/she will never forget," he wrote. Surprisingly, and presumably due to the effects of global warming, it appears that Santa has moved his workshop from the North Pole to Southern Comfort, Tennessee, where the item is located. Equally surprising is the $9,995 price tag Santa is requesting for the delivery, with the starting bid at $3,995. Read the full article More About: Personal , Selling , Ebay , Delivery

2007-12-01 09:42:00 The New York Times recently published an article entitled "Some Essential Hardware (Even Away From the Street)." However, Samantha Mason at Next-Gen caught some awful mistakes in the video games hardware section. The following is a paragraph from the New York Times loaded with three errors about the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The PlayStation 3 game Gran Turismo 5, a hyper- realistic, high-speed journey, is one of the best sellers for that Sony console, which starts at $299. Microsoft's Xbox starts at $280. Both are built around the multicore Cell processor, which allows numerous tasks to be done simultaneously." 1. Gran Turismo 5 is "one of the best sellers" for the PS3. Oh really? Woman waits overnight for Wii, snubbed by Kmart
2007-11-23 03:13:00 Many Kmart stores across the country pushed the traditional Black Friday into Thursday, opening on Thanksgiving. With that came the long lines of customers eager to take advantage of the holiday season deals. In a story out of Huntsville, Alabama, a woman now claims that her local Kmart wasted her time and acted unfairly over a Nintendo Wii. Sherrie McKinley said she saw an ad from Kmart for the Wii, so she decided to wait in line overnight. "Okay I've always done this, and the way it's always been is you stand in line, when the doors open you go to the section that has your item, and you pull a number and first come there first serve," she told local WAFF. McKinley was one of the first six people in line who were promised by management that a Wii would be available for each one of them. However, she was told that they were gone when the store opened. "I said that's impossible that they couldn't have had time," said McKinley. "I'm not a dumb person, I pi... More About: Woman
Wii now matches Xbox 360 in total market share
2007-11-23 00:24:00 Despite the Xbox 360's one year head start, the Nintendo Wii has now matched the 360 in total market share. Heading into Friday's start to the holiday shopping season, the Xbox 360 , however, still maintains a considerable lead on the PlayStation 3. According to Michael Pachter, analyst at Wedbush Morgan Securities, the holiday season will provide clues of what to expect in the long run, as Xbox 360 and PS3 supplies are better, and their prices have come down somewhat. "You'll be able to see who's gaining traction and losing traction," Pachter told Seattle Post- Intelligencer. Traditionally, a large share of console sales are made in November and December. Pachter predicts that the 2008 holiday season will be even more competitive, as the Wii becomes in better supply and the prices of all three consoles drop further. According to the NPD Group, the Wii pulled ahead of the Xbox 360 in U.S. sales back in October. With that and the Wii's strength in Japan, the ... More About: Market , Matches , Share
GameStop holding Wii supplies until Black Friday
2007-11-22 09:02:00 The Nintendo Wii remains one of the most sought after items of the holiday season. With that comes word from GameStop's headquarters that all of their stores should not sell any Wii consoles until Black Friday . That policy and the frustration of finding of Wii this holiday season has triggered some anger among gamers. "They said they should be getting in a shipment this week, went by there on Tuesday of this week when the shipment was supposed to arrive and they're telling me now hat they don't have any in stock," Robert Whitted told local WTVM. At most GameStop locations, the Wii is available, but no one is to purchase them until Black Friday. Managers at other stores, like Best Buy, Circuit City, and Target, sell Wiis as they arrive. While other retailers have been honest about whether the Wii is being held for Friday or not, many GameStops choose to give customers the runaround. 2007-11-20 09:33:00 In El Paso, Texas, it was the promise of an Xbox 360 console and other prizes that lured more than 100 fugitives to their arrests, Police Chief Richard Wiles announced today. Wal-Mart breaks Rock Band street date
2007-11-15 02:40:00 Another street date has apparently been broken. This time, it's Rock Band , ahead of its scheduled release date of November 20. A member at the official Rock Band forums claims to have purchased Rock Band Special Edition at a Wal-Mart in New York. Harmonix has now edited the post and locked the thread. Over at eBay, new Rock Band Special Edition bundles are now popping up. This one comes out of Los Angeles and, at the time of this writing, is going up for more than $400. Earlier this month, a couple of Rock Band bundles began appearing on eBay claiming that its street date had been broken. However, beware that these were only demo units and not the final game. "These demo builds are kind of hobbled - for one the drums don't have kick pedals. Some of the demos don't have mics. And the build isn't a full- real retail version of the game. It is hobbled a bit and, obviously, the bass drum autoplays since there is no pedal that comes with the demo," Harmonix said. ... More About: Wal-Mart , Street
