Konami on broken MGS4 street date: 'Things happen'

The release of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots ahead of June 12 has prompted Konami to speak out about the game's broken street date. "Unfortunately, these things happen. As much as we like see that no one breaks streets dates, no one can monitor every single moment that a title gets packed up for shipment and when its on its way to the stores," Konami's Dani wrote. "The store could be at fault as well, for letting someone get a copy before the street date." That appears to be the case with Wal-Mart, as the mega-retailer has sold MGS4 's 80GB PS3 bundle early on at least two separate occasions, here and here. Call of Duty 4 sales hit 10 million

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has just hit 10 million units sold, Infinity Ward said Tuesday. Speaking with CNET's Daniel Terdiman, Infinity Ward studio head Vince Zampella stated he didn't know exactly how many units the game had sold on each platform it is available on, the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. However, he mentioned that the title had been most successful on the 360. Zampella acknowledged that Call of Duty 4 has set the bar very high for his studio, and it's hard to imagine Infinity Ward being able to come right back with another 10 million-seller. With Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots due out next week, the PlayStation 3's install base and lack of TV marketing for the game may hinder sales, according to Newsweek's N'Gai Croal. Xbox 360 almost burns down house

In Little Rock, Arkansas, investigators believe that a residential fire Monday afternoon was caused by an Xbox 360 console. While no one was at the home, the house nearly burned down as flames charred the interior. "My Xbox 360 has the rings of death, which means something gone wrong you have to send it back for repair. GameStop said that it's still in talks with Konami in regards to sending out Metal Gear Solid Online beta keys.
