Salamander series
2008-04-25 10:34:00
Salamander, aka Lifeforce, as seen in the first recording here, is part of the Gradius series but may still be its own game in some ways. Here's a 3-part recording of the first game right here: There are plenty of awesome ideas to be seen here, as it innovatively features both side and overhead scrolling scenes, and many scary parts where you need to make your way through thin passageways. A

A taping of The King of Dragons

In 6 recordings: A most wonderful but lengthy fantasy adventure where you battle plenty of the usual fairytale monsters, including the title villain himself! One of the best kind of games in Capcom's output.

PS3's virtual universe delayed
2008-04-22 23:10:00
Seems that this project's been bumped back: TOKYO (AFP) - Sony's game unit said Tuesday it was delaying for the second time the launch of an online virtual universe for the PlayStation 3 because the service needs further development. "Home" had originally been scheduled for launch in late 2007 but was delayed until early 2008. Now Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. plans to open up an early

Parodius posting
2008-04-22 12:02:00
Click over to view. This was the first in a series of games that parodied Konami's own Gradius series. It all began on the MSX system, no less, and it was pretty funny too! I think the sequels were what really debuted as coin-ops, and if I find some recordings of them, I'll post about them too.
New games for the Wii drop in sales
2008-04-21 20:38:00
The New York Times (via Hot Air Headlines) reports that sales for games compatible with the Wii have been going down. Oh, what does that trashy paper know, really? Bunch of bunglers they are, really, and not worth paying attention to.

Super Space Invaders 91
2008-04-21 10:19:00
And again, here come the aliens shootin' away, in another update of the classic series. This comes in a few parts: In the US, this is known as Majestic Twelve. It features various new powerups and weapons, some of which can be obtained from the flying saucers, and more good music. It may also be possible for two people to play simultaneously. Isn't it great?

One Crazy ride in a Taxi
2008-04-20 22:56:00
Check out what's surely the wackiest 3-D game Sega's ever made, that being Crazy Taxi : In this game, you ride all around SanFrancisco picking up passengers to deliver to various destinations within the given time limit, and all the while you and they are tradings tons of goofy banter! So much road chaos makes this pretty funny but also difficult. It's probably the best game they've made where

Super Dodge Ball videos
2008-04-20 21:09:00
This was an excellent game featuring a surrealistic form of ball play first made in 1987. Here's a two-part recording of this classic competition game: Some of it is pretty tough, but it's fun and challenging. You got a couple of teams made up of at least 3 players from different countries competing at this superb sport, with different strengths and weaknesses. Here, it includes both little

Flash Gal filming
2008-04-20 19:54:00
In 3 parts: One of the earliest games in which you have a female lead, this stars a karate chick, who's on a mission to bring down a crime syndicate. It also involves some stages where you ride on a motocycle and a motorboat while firing upwards. It's pretty difficult too, what with the linear style scrolling. I don't think even Athena, which came the year after, was as tough as this game.

Daytona USA recording

Click over to watch this great race. A most awesome race inspired by the tracks in Indiana. Just like in Virtua Racing, this too has the option of making a pit stop for repairs if your car gets banged up, but if you're really expert at this, you won't be needing any of that, and can really try to compete for the top spot. That's the really challenging part here, coming in at 1st place. Is it

Right after the click. In this game, you race across some very tricky bridge-like paths and need to complete the round within the first 3 ranks in order to continue to the next one. It's a great challenge, and some versions even have a special surprise stage where you can pilot the plane from After Burner!

Super Chase HQ recording
2008-04-17 17:17:00
This is the home SNES version of what was called Super Chase : Criminal Termination in the coin-op division at the time. The plot here is certainly different in some ways from that of the arcade version, where the first stage has you driving through a pizza parlour, and there's even at least two points where you need to deal with sub-bosses in their own enemy cars! Nevertheless, this is a

Click over to see. The sequel to Chase HQ has you going after kidnappers, and this time, you've got a mounted gun on the car. The thing is, I don't know if the gun options in this game have any real effect, certainly not in the arcade version! Nevertheless, it's a playable game, and worth trying out. The most challenging part is the end race, where you need to reach the warehouse where one of

Karate Champ: grandfather of the one-on-ones
2008-01-18 17:19:00
This is the true template for the Street Fighter games. It began with Karate Champ , where you have a one-on-one match between two martial arts experts. It required more than just a 2 out of 3 victory to fully win the contests, but it works well. In between some of the matches, you even get special bonus stage features, such as where you need, but with pinpoint timing, to knock down, say,

Hollywood is losing out to vidgames, thanks to writers strike

Sega sinks into dhimmitude?

2008-01-17 16:24:00
In 3 recordings: A gangland boss is terrorizing the city, and after his minions plant a bomb in the city amusement park, a quartet of combatants decides to take action. Pretty good for a beat-em-up game, though I wish that they'd done the score meter better than it is.
