The international online community now has a New Zealand site and Kiwi band Evermore, which uses MySpace to talk to fans, was in Auckland for its launch. “So basically what we’ll be doing is programming content specifically for this market. So that means that if you are in New Zealand and log on as a New Zealand user, you’ll actually get content that’s been programmed specifically for you,” Rebekah Horne of MySpace New Zealand says. Fox Interactive Media purchases Strategic Data Corp
2007-03-01 05:10:04 Fox Inter active Media , the company which owns MySpace, has made a bid to increase its share of the internet advertising market by buying Strategic Data , a firm which will enable it to better target ads on the social networking site. The purchase of Strategic Data Corp, a Californian company, for a reported $50 million, will allow MySpace to place more relevant ads on its user profile pages, and potentially gain ground on Yahoo!, which has revenues more than 20 times the size of MySpace despite being a less popular site. MySpace became the most viewed site in the US in December, according to comScore Media Metrix, but still trails Yahoo! in terms of revenue. In the three months to December 31, MySpace tripled revenues to $75 million from the same period the previous year. But over the same three months, Yahoo!’s revenues hit $1.7 billion. $30 million MySpace lawsuit thrown out
2007-02-20 17:08:01 It’s good to know that, despite popular belief, there are judges about with an ounce of common sense. We found out today that a Texas Judge has thrown out a $30 million dollar lawsuit against MySpace ’s parent corporation, Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. The case was brought about by the parents of a thirteen year old girl who was allegedly sexually assaulted by someone she met on everyones favorite social networking site. Judge Sam Sparks ruled, “If anyone had a duty to protect Julie Doe, it was her parents, not MySpace”. Julie Doe’s parents sued News Corp because they felt MySpace doesn’t protect its members effectively or sufficiently. Apparently her parents were infact looking to make a quick fortune and to make a scapegoat out of MySpace for there own shocking parenting. 14 year old arrested over MySpace threats
2007-02-20 17:08:01 A 14 year old boy has had intimidation charges filed against him by Lake Station Police in Indiana. The River Forest Junior High School student has been accused of sending death threats to a classmate on his MySpace profile. The child was questioned by the police and then taken on Tuesday to the Lake County Juvenile Center, Lake Station Police Chief Mike stills said. Police say the boy admitted sending the threatining messages on MySpace, which said he was going to bring a knife to school and cut the victim’s throat, as well as burn their house down and hurt their family. However, the boy told police he wasn’t going to act upon the threats and simply made them out of anger because of a fight he had with the victim. Even though the boy claimed he wasn’t going to act upon the threats, Lake Station Police had to take them seriously because of previous issues with threats made through the MySpace web site. “With kids these days, you never know anymore,̶...
