Limit the number of downloads per client
2007-05-05 19:14:00
These days a customers website has generated a large amount of traffic because a client site has offered some “bigger” file downloads to their visitors. Normally there is nothing wrong with this kind of downloads on most of the websites, but in this case there are lot of visitors using a file download manager. With the most of these download clients it’s possible to enter a number of maximum connections for each target server. Just imagine if the visitor is using a value of “99″ for a file of only 10MB! This way one file download for one visitor will open 99 connections and the used bandwidth will be almost one gigabyte. There is a apache module name mod_limitipconn which can handle this task, but what if the website is on some shared web hosting? In the last situation we need to write some extra function: In this small tutorial we are using some some mod_rewrite rule and a download script while the downloads are logged in a database. (more…)

Dynamic Flash Photo Galleries!
2007-04-29 19:28:00
The latest product from TemplateMonster is some new CMS with a stylish flash powered photo gallery front end. While the product is developed for the “not so professional” webmaster are the CMS features really advanced. The gallery script looks a little like the bigger PHP photo galleries but there is need no for a database and the CMS has some nice features like: automatic thumbnail generation (loads much faster than resizing a photo using Flash ’s jpg object) a PHP powered file upload an unlimited number of categories and photos for each category (only the load time is the limit) easy to modify descriptions for photo’s and categories The ability to modify all information and configuration via the text editor (if PHP is not available on the websites host) The CMS looks very clean and doesn’t require a lot of HTML knowledge to manage any photo gallery listing. The price is maybe a little to high: Starting at $235 each license could be a little to to h...

phpGround.com a PHP Scripts Archive
2007-04-24 22:28:00
One of the latest additions to the finalwebsites.com network is phpGround.com a PHP only script archive. A Script owner can submit his script information to promote a project like on hotscripts.com or php.resourceindex.com. While the submission of open source projects is free, owners of commercial scripts need to pay a small onetime fee for inclusion. The script archive provides direct (SEO friendly) links to the scripts homepage, the download page and a demo page (if available). Each project has its own detail page where people can rate the script or application. Whats next? Of course the archive has to grow a little bit first, for the future its planned to expand this site with other PHP related categories like PHP resource links and to offer useful PHP code snippets. Script owners need register first before the can add their scripts.

A social Icon trading community
2007-03-23 23:31:00
IconBuffet was already since a longer time a place to get professional Icons for a small price and also to get “free deliverys”. Today I noticed that this Icon webshop is mutated into a social community with the abillity to trade Icons, and to share information / weblogs. The best thing is the membership (also the traded Icons) is free: Just join and get 10 free tokens (once a month?) which are good for ~3 professional Icon sets. If you deliver Icons you got before from friends to other friends you earn some “Stamps”. Invite friends to this free community to earn “points” (don’t know what you can do with them at the moment) and I think you earn also points if you post blogs or if the delivered Icon sets are accepted by your friends. The Icon set is a complete serie of Icons in different file formats (gif, ico, png and others) … and this is result of my first day at the Icon Buffet community: a total of 90 points 18 new friends (webma...
