14 year old arrested over MySpace threats

A 14 year old boy has had intimidation charges filed against him by Lake Station Police in Indiana. The River Forest Junior High School student has been accused of sending death threats to a classmate on his MySpace profile. The child was questioned by the police and then taken on Tuesday to the Lake County Juvenile Center, Lake Station Police Chief Mike stills said. Police say the boy admitted sending the threatining messages on MySpace, which said he was going to bring a knife to school and cut the victim’s throat, as well as burn their house down and hurt their family. However, the boy told police he wasn’t going to act upon the threats and simply made them out of anger because of a fight he had with the victim. $30 million MySpace lawsuit thrown out

It’s good to know that, despite popular belief, there are judges about with an ounce of common sense. We found out today that a Texas Judge has thrown out a $30 million dollar lawsuit against MySpace ’s parent corporation, Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. The case was brought about by the parents of a thirteen year old girl who was allegedly sexually assaulted by someone she met on everyones favorite social networking site. Judge Sam Sparks ruled, “If anyone had a duty to protect Julie Doe, it was her parents, not MySpace”. Julie Doe’s parents sued News Corp because they felt MySpace doesn’t protect its members effectively or sufficiently. Apparently her parents were infact looking to make a quick fortune and to make a scapegoat out of MySpace for there own shocking parenting. Myspace offers £1,000,000 directing job

Myspace, The social networking site owned by Rupert Murdoch?s News Corp, is running a competition to win the director’s job on a brand new £1m feature film. MySpace members and experts including Anthony Minghella and Kevin Macdonald will choose the winner from short film entries submitted to MySpace. Production partners Vertigo Films and Film4 will then develop a project with the winner. MySpace members will also be able to contribute to the script and audition for roles in the film, due to be completed by summer 2008. The ‘MyMovie Mashup’ project is open to all UK residents, from established film makers to industry newscomers and launches on Wednesday.
