2007-09-07 12:28:00 Have you ever wondered why Wal-Mart has become a giant while similar stores have practically disappeared? What ever happened to K-Mart? When I was growing up I used to see them everywhere and in the last decade they have become rare. Last time I went to a K-Mart they were understocked, the store was unclean and the employees were less than helpful. I am sure the last time you went to Wal-Mart it was quite the opposite, but is that why the became a giant? No not in the least, well maybe a tiny bit:) Wal-Mart became a giant through a brilliant use of assets and inventory management. It is no secret to a modern day business, but in the 1970’s it was unheard of. Wal-Mart is amazing in the chains use of technology and supply chain management. 2007-08-25 13:49:00 Â Â Â When I started my business almost a year ago I was confident that everything would be ok for money. I had some funding and I had some assets I could use to get more funding. Little did I know that a year later I really didn’t have any assets at all. Â Â Â Wiki describes an asset as "economic entities that give rise to future economic benefit and is controlled by the entity as a result of past transaction or other events." Sounds good right? You have a house? Some cars? Other valuables? Â Â Â I do not think this definition is accurate and is very broad. I have been listening to RichDad’s podcasts for a couple months now and it has totally changed the way I am acquiring personal assets and business assets. He says that anything you pay for is not an asset, but is instead a liability. I use Photoshop, Fireworks, Contribute for my clients, Dreamweaver for my HTML/CSS editor (I don’t use the WYSIWYG part). These are what I use the most. For graphics you want to use Photoshop, but for web text graphics I can’t live without Fireworks. Well the good news is that you can now buy all of this stuff in one package since Adobe just released the new CS3 updates. I’m really excited about it and can’t wait to see all of the new toys that will come with it. If you are a fan of those nice Javascript menus that look great, Dreamweaver now has a lot of Javascript help and intergration built in, which should help a lot.
